This is some of the best and most interesting content about working on IDIs, I love all the the random figure it out as you go approach to all your projects.
Hey buddy. I have had a couple idis that made good power. If it is a turbo pump it will have a high rpm fuel screw (torque screw) thats on the back top side of the pump with a jam nut and back that one out as far as possible. And there is a fuel curve screw on the back of the pump it has a jam nut turn that one in as far as possible (need to turn down idle after). The factory down pipe is shit. I ran 18-19psi on mine for years never let go with turbo pump maxed out and dps stage 1 injectors. Also had a 650ml per min water meth nozzel. DCA coolant is a must and same with a pyro. Keep on keeping on. Nolan.
I was surprised to see that you did not go with anything parts from R&D. I figured since you had the motor out you would have done studs, head gaskets, injectors, bigger injection pump, and bigger turbo. Very much enjoyed watching your build.
Appreciate you doing the temperature conversion for this American. Ae. Totally agree with taking a break from the big work and doing the smaller tasks. Sometimes ya just need a win.
Theres a actual socket for those injection lines on the injection pump. Pretty much a extra long deepwell 16mm? socket with a strip cut out of it long ways. I borrowed a snapon one and it worked awesome. Works on the 6.5 diesels too. Pretty much the same pump.
I believe all N/A IDIs from both ford and GM ran the same Stanadyne DB2 pump. There were several years of 6.5 Detroit (N/A or turbo) that ran the DB2 before they went to the DS4 pump. They’re great little units.
Nice truck I went back to a 1989 idi 4x4 I'm running waste hydraulic oil and love the economy and reliable nature of all idi engines I'm wanting to swap interior next cant stand the bench seat
Tell me you live in Canada without telling me you live in Canada. Sawed off Frenchman: - "The hight clearence of my garage door changes with the seasons."😆
Hey man, I done a natural to idi turbo swap up here in manning last winter,(had to go to grovedale u pull to get my engine last February)my truck is an auto but my dust shield was also hitting my flywheel when I got her running too lol. I had electrical issues with the transmission so she sat all summer and I think I finally got it sorted out yesterday, now I gotta do paint and body . Just gotta get to gp to get a back door before I start into it
Just finished turboing my NA and my injector lines were clear of the factory IDIT intake. No hacking required. There were threads in the valley that sit up a little bit, clearing all the lines.
Id say its converted 100%, mainly because of the oil filler neck being the vertical one with a metal cap as opposed to the plastic cap and the angled one but correct me if I'm wrong.
Awsome job on the build!! That RX8 probably has bad seals on the rotors so it's not building enough compression to run. Think of them as piston rings. It's a common problem with them.
SpeedO fix lol. I had same odd-ness on my very very rusty 93 f350 idi the rear diff sensor was damaged. Something had hit it ? It was warn with a bit rubbed away. I replaced it with a different used one off a spare axle & all was well.... Sold the old rusty pos... rear axle locked up on next owner when he was hauling lots of 1/2 ton sacks on thd 12ft flatbed & more on a trailer. The kick in the ass from the trailer broke the very rusty frame. In short I recommend changing speed sensor... if that fixes speedO.., You're welcome.... if speed sensor is warn inspect the diff quickly.. Nice old ford I recommend you look after it as you will not find any in a few years
There are 100 ways to do it, i just cancel out the old one and run existing lines to pump anywhere under the hood, you dont even have to remove the old pump
Man between your obs crew cab and zipties obs crew cab makes a guy want to get one and build it and put a cummins in. I sold mine like a idiot 😅. But that's the way she go's. I love my f600 cummins.
Pull the fuel pump relay out of the RX8. Try starting it full throttle for a while. When it stops doing anything like trying to smoke or hiccup. Stick relay in and start it full throttle. Even start cranking and get someone to put the pump relay in while cranking. Good trick to get them to fire up.
Once you understand IDIs they are good engines. 7.3s have cavitation issues, 6.9s are better block wise. There are some cams for them, I remember the modified injection pumps ( Baby Moose, Moose pumps ). ARP everything......just glancing at an IDI will pop a gasket somewhere
That has a 6.9 oil fill pipe. Looks like you put a turbocharged 6.9 in it. They have smaller head bolts. 7.3 will handle boost better. Keep up the hard work.
If that RX8 sat for a while, the apex seals will stick to the inner wall. Without some voodoo and a rain dance, if you just try to start it like a regular car owner does a regular car, the seals will tear. Rebuild time after that.
Hey, when you flood a rotary, they can be a real bitch. The best thing is take all the plugs out, put a little ATF down each bottom plug hole, and turn it over for a few seconds. Then let it sit for a few hours with the plugs out. Flooding it soaks the apex seals so it kills your compression, and ATF swells them up again, so you get it back. It works like a champ, but don't even think of starting it inside without an exhaust hose....the smoke is insane, lol. Hope this helps.
Change the seals. Easiest thing to do. I had a rx 7. Needed Starting fluid when it was cold. Once warm it would always fire up. They have oil injectors to keep the apex seals lubed- sometimes they malfunction.
Guys pay big money for any 7.3L they can get their hands on in the states and it seems between Peg and u that u guys are rolling in them in Canada. Why aren't yours rusted out like ours? Just sand on the roads and no salt?
@DIPCHITS IN DUNLOPS he has a bunch of 5.9L Cummins too and those are big money. I think he has the 5.9L's but either way u know what I'm talking about. Do u have any of those?
That idi with a turbo is a 6.9 I’m pretty sure. The oil fill neck on the turbo engine is a 6.9 oil neck. So you might not have a 7.3 turbo just a 6.9 turbo
"I built it myself, its made from garbage" story of my life buddy
This is some of the best and most interesting content about working on IDIs, I love all the the random figure it out as you go approach to all your projects.
If you arent sure or youre curious about something just throw your hat in the ring...god hates a coward...thats my approach to everything
This has to be one of the coolest obs fords on youtube

Nice ditch bagger!
Next video can you challenge peg to a 7.3 tug o war?? 😂
I pushed my son to get his license so he could rescue me when I “go for a drive in my Camaro”. I changed his diapers so he owes me. A lot. Nice truck
Lol
Awesome job! Lots of patience and talent that the world is lacking
Patience...no. talent...questionable. more like too cheap to buy new

Dude you're great. Love your projects and dry self depricating humor.
Absolutely love this project! Can’t wait to see more!
LMC sells the radiator support 92-97 OBS Ford Diesels Powerstroke and IDIs.

The Db2 found its way on a ton of different diesels.
That's awesome! You have some of the most enjoyable content, I always find my self having a bit of a laugh in a good way.
Awesome pickup truck nice project.
Looking good Frenchy. 😁👍
beauty, all of it. Gods work
The 7.3 truck is coming along nicely. I really like your light setup.
Nice truck I went back to a 1989 idi 4x4 I'm running waste hydraulic oil and love the economy and reliable nature of all idi engines I'm wanting to swap interior next cant stand the bench seat
That bumper has fury road vibe to it,good work frenchy!!!💥🤪👍💥
Nice! a day after Peg uploads, we get a sawed off Frenchman TREAT! Minty asF
Tell me you live in Canada without telling me you live in Canada.

Always entertaining and right to the point look forward to the next one
The way the cab corners look did the truck grow up in chitcago salt city lol The bumper and light rack looks great too !
Holy fuck, those old IDI's are indestructible.
That truck looks sweet Frenchman 👍😎good job
I love these videos. Love from New Zealand.
That’s the original air box for the filter. I have the 94, pre-Powerstroke engine
Just finished turboing my NA and my injector lines were clear of the factory IDIT intake. No hacking required. There were threads in the valley that sit up a little bit, clearing all the lines.
Nice ride sawed off ..... lookin great .... love your vids
Looks pretty good, a guy needs a project over the winter to keep you busy.
Id say its converted 100%, mainly because of the oil filler neck being the vertical one with a metal cap as opposed to the plastic cap and the angled one but correct me if I'm wrong.

Apex seals
@@redneckrebelzracing2891 and the face seals I think they're called.
Your Oil fill tube tells me its an early NA IDI converted to Turbo.
its also possibly a 6.9 idi with a turbo
That is a clean obs !
What a treat some Sod off Frenchman to watch before I go to bed❤💨💨
Very cool video mt guy, keep up the great work.
I'm diggin the bumper
Nice Canadian truck!
Nice ol track buddy.

Great video love to see some good idi content
The body lines are straight, 99% better than the rest of them out there
Good from far...and fords are never straight anyway
I’d love to see a video more in depth on the electric fuel pump setup
There are 100 ways to do it, i just cancel out the old one and run existing lines to pump anywhere under the hood, you dont even have to remove the old pump
I like that bumper!!
I do love my IDI and constantly shopping for more trucks I shouldn’t buy.
Plus deleting the Mechanical pump is if the Diaphragm goes bad the electric pump doesnt fill the crank case with Fuel.
U should make the extra motor runaway 😂
Good looking truck
Nice build, should have stole a Cummins off Peg and went 12v. But non the less, cool build, nice bumper too, you got plans for that?
Man between your obs crew cab and zipties obs crew cab makes a guy want to get one and build it and put a cummins in. I sold mine like a idiot 😅. But that's the way she go's. I love my f600 cummins.

Hell Yeah bro, looking good 👍🤘🔥🔥🔥
Nice Zx14... sparkly paint
Also two cents. Addwater to air intercooler (located where filer housing is) that will help cool in summer and no water injest in winter
Solid effort Brethurr
You need a hat cam too man. Other than that another great video!
commented and liked good shit keep em comin
oh shit new vidia! thanks for the show!
IDIs my favorite ❤
Good shit sir, good shit!
I pulled one without the transmission and omg it was a tight fit
She even does Snow Tricks with nobody in it
Nice job French man
What happened to the super charged idi
So deleting the waistgate? Is that okay to do on a 7.3idi that has a banks kit? And are there any options I can get for a bolt in turbo upgrade
Nice job, Sawed Off!
How dose that Speedo go all the way to i thohjt they stoped at 80mph
great vidya you should do a vidya swapping a dana 50 ttb to a dana 60.
That has a 6.9 oil fill pipe. Looks like you put a turbocharged 6.9 in it. They have smaller head bolts. 7.3 will handle boost better. Keep up the hard work.
Correct sir...it has no compression and a cummins p pump is going in
Is that pegs screw cab Shlog box
11:33 whats up with yer belt situation bub?
R and D performance makes a lot of performance parts for the 7.3 and 6.9 idis
Hells fuqin yeah!
What's the advantage of deleting the wastegate?
More boost usually. Not a major increase but every little but helps on this things
More boost...better fuel economy at lower engine loads
Peg needs to find you some tire chains.
If that RX8 sat for a while, the apex seals will stick to the inner wall. Without some voodoo and a rain dance, if you just try to start it like a regular car owner does a regular car, the seals will tear. Rebuild time after that.
Hey bud, I have a stock 94 idi turbo, I saw you deleted the waste gate, maybe a dumb question, but will that shorten engine life?.
It means i control boost, better fuel mileage, but have to have a boost gauge and be carefull not to overboost
@@captaindipchit ok, cheers.
Put a rx7 starter in your rx8 , they spin faster and help them fire off a little easier
Well worth it 👍
Where you get the roof rack?
Built it
@@captaindipchit you have it bolted to the cab?
You should start a Patreon so I can hear you’re “freedom words” I would def give you 20 canadia buckeroos!
I work too much to make consistant content...and everytime i open my mouth on twitter i get banned...last time permanently
Sawed Off, I’m guessing you work oilfield. What do you do for work exactly to finance these minty projects?
Natural gas mechanic
👍👍..right on man 👊

They have oil injectors to keep the apex seals lubed- sometimes they malfunction.
I took the whole front clip off was a heck of alot easier and alot more room. It was faster for me and I got it up and running within 3 days !!!
A true IDI turbo has 1 less frost plug on each side if it is original
Nice
Guys pay big money for any 7.3L they can get their hands on in the states and it seems between Peg and u that u guys are rolling in them in Canada. Why aren't yours rusted out like ours? Just sand on the roads and no salt?
We were...the used market is expensive...i have 4...peg has at least a dozen
@DIPCHITS IN DUNLOPS he has a bunch of 5.9L Cummins too and those are big money. I think he has the 5.9L's but either way u know what I'm talking about. Do u have any of those?
That idi with a turbo is a 6.9 I’m pretty sure. The oil fill neck on the turbo engine is a 6.9 oil neck. So you might not have a 7.3 turbo just a 6.9 turbo
I don’t think the 6.9 came serpentine might just be a pump swap
NICE
Slave lakes new heart!
fantastic truck the only thing wrong with it ......its not mine lol
Im here for the "master shit"
need more videos
Better not tell peg where the hidden switch he will steal it from you
I should have did this to my idi instead of having it rebuilt. I put my idi in my 73 f250 4x4
The RX8....the apex seals have left the chat...
Just minty
