Hi Cosmic Qveen, If you're hearing the noise when you hitting small bumps or cracks in the road it's possible the sway bar bushings or links are worn. The sway bar bushing wraps around the bar and a metal bracket secures it to the subframe or frame. When these bushings are worn or are not tight around the bar because of age and abuse, they will start to make noise like you're describing. I recommend you start by having someone inspect the bushings and links for any play. Let me know what you find, thanks.

There are a lot of components that can make a knocking noise in the front end. Hi Abarth. What is the year make and model of your vehicle? Sometimes sway bar bushings make a similar noise, the bushings that are between the sway bar and frame, not at the link ends. Try sitting in your vehicle and have someone rock it side to side by pushing on the upper window frame with the window down, notice if you can hear the noise when you do this. Let me know, thanks.

Hi Michael, I recommend you have someone bounce the front of the vehicle while you reach under it and feel the components with your hand. I think you're on the right track, possible strut or sway bar links. It's very possible you'll be able to feel the creak through one of the components. Let me know if you figure it out.

ALSO its more of feeling it than hearing it…not much of a rattle either kind of feeling like something may be loose
Hi Ben, I recommend inspecting the sway bar links. The links will look perfectly fine but the little ball joint nylon bushing inside will have clearance that can cause the noise. Also if you have had them removed recently to perform another repair, sometimes the mechanic will not tighten them to spec and that will also cause the noise. Check the sway bar links and let me know what you find, thanks.
Ha", thanks for posting this video. I had my front Z95 6LM 7LM shock absorbers swapped out with new O.E.M. ones 2 months ago. The vehicle is a 2010 AWD Cadillac escalade Luxury package. Since I had those absorbers changed out I got a clunking noise the very next day (only when I drive on washboard roads)that I didn't have before. It's coming from the left front and sounds like something is wrong with the shock absorbers. The only thing I noticed was that the outer boot on the CV shaft on the left side is throwing grease everywhere. I mentioned this to the mechanic, but he says the CV shaft wouldn't make that noise. I'm scheduled to have the CV shaft changed this Monday by a different mechanic. I've changed all ball joints complete rack and pinion, I got new sway bar bushings even though the bar has no play in it. I kept pointing out that if the only thing visibly wrong is the CV boot that is throwing grease than that probably is what should of been changed first. Lol... I've only driven my Escalade a few times since the shock absorbers were changed, because I don't want the CV joints to dry up. Sorry this was so lengthy, I'm just happy to see that a bad CV shaft could possibly be making the clunking noise when I drive on washboard roads. Once again thank you for posting the video.
Hi Fernando, I think what you're hearing is possibly a swaybar link not torqued properly or the mechanic didn't tighten the shock absorber properly or left out a bushing. I don't think the CV joint is the cause of the noise because it wasn't making noise before the repair so it has to be something they replaced or assembled with the wrong amount of torque(left loose). Let me know if you have more question and keep me posted on what you find, thanks 😊
@@EddieCarrara1 you were right. The single top nut was not torqued down even close to specs. I went ahead and had the top mount changed out, so the shop I took it to could inspect the rubber/foam bump stop as well. Top mount was pretty dried out and had a lil wiggle to it. The shop said I could wait till it goes out completely or change it now. Since they had it apart already, I told them to go ahead and change it, I'm ordering the right side top mount tomorrow so they will both be new. The CV Axle got changed out as well.
@@EddieCarrara1 does anything need reset or recalibrated after having the front Z95 6LM 7LM replaced with new ones on a 2010 Cadillac Escalade Luxury AWD? My front struts were really stiff when I got my Escalade, I'm not sure how long the previous owner drove with the struts that way. I have read that some magnaride struts do need the computer reset, some claim that if you disconnect the battery and touch the two cable terminals together and put a set of vice grips on them so they stay connected to eachother for 30 minutes that it will reset the computer/module for the magnaride. I'm not to sure on that method considering all the factory electronic features. TIA...

Hi Caravan Master, did you do the work yourself? Are you sure you installed all the bushings on the strut pistons or were they full assemblies? Hey Justin, I recommend you replace the sway bar bushings, the bushings that mound the bar to the frame or sub-frame. Is lower control arm (LCA) another possible component? I have 2010 Camry with knocking sound over bump on the front driver side. The sound feels underneath the driver seat. I have replaced the sway bar links and bushings as they are easy and cheap. The noise remains. I suspect the LCA, but I can’t see visual cracks on the LCA bushings. Hi Gary, Yes, it's possible they are making noise, but there are a lot of things like broken exhaust hangers, motor/transmission mounts, steering rack, etc so I recommend you jack up the front end, support it with jack stands, and start tugging on components to find out what's loose or have someone do it for you because the possibilities are endless! Find a place next to the dealership prior to your appointment where you can make the noise happen, then they will have no choice but to help you fix it. You have already paid for the diagnosis so they shouldn't change you anything to go for a ride. Those kinds of noise could be cause by many different components like springs, ball joints, bushings, etc. Let me know what they find, thanks.
Hi Juan, I recommend checking the brakes and the suspension where you're hearing the noise because I don't think you have a CV joint problem. Let me know if you have more questions.
Hey Techgamer, Sometimes swaybar links or bushing can make a knocking noise and they will not appear to be loose. You have to remember, the force we apply to a suspension with our hands a tools doesn't compare to the force that the weight of the vehicle will on have on it.

Could you help, i have a civic 2018 and i only notice when im going slow over driveway or into speed bumps and entering exiting plazas, something knocks a couple times i believe to be more in the front area….i could not hear it from backseat as much.
TIA...
So I have a f250 4x4 changed the shocks still making loud clunking noise from the rear end only going over speed bumps but it sounds and sometimes feels like the bed is gonna break any ideas?
Hi ShawnI recommend you check the torque on all your suspension components like the sway bar, leaf springs, and shocks. I also recommend inspecting all the body parts like the bed and bumper just to be sure no bolts have broken. Let me know what you find, thanks

Thank you Riko.
Let's not forget some engine mounts may cause some clunks and knocks going over bumps
oouu good call
You’re smart
Anyone out there know what could cause a car to rattle when stopped while pressing the brakes when the gear is in Drive. I've also tried it with the emergency brake engaged while not pressing the brake pedal and it also makes a rattling noise. It does not rattle when in park or neutral gear.
Hi Rico, check the exhaust heat shields, it's the most common cause of this type of rattle.
My 08 Grand Prix clunks in reverse checked.. motor mounts they are fine.. ordered cv axles and lower control arms ! Struts are good too…
Hi AJ, Let me know what you find, I'm interested to see if changing those parts corrects your problem, thanks.

Thinking it was cv axle, but the noise the ball joint or sway bar.. makes in closest to mine... It almost sounds like popcorn popping... It doesn't do it constantly... It happens most when im going downhill(or pressure being on my front end), potholes... I was thinking it doesbt happen when stirring, but i tested it out yesterday, did a 360 degree circle turning all the way to the left, it did it alot, did a circle turning to the right it didn't... Idk... Was thinking cv axle, but now I'm not so sure... Suspension problems are a bitch!
Hi I just bought and installed 2 new shocks and struts and 2 sway bar links and ever since I’ve noticed a bad banging noise over speed bumps and I can’t figure out what it is and it’s driving me crazy. The shocks sound way worse than before. Anything at this point would help. Thanks
Hi Caravan Master, did you do the work yourself? Are you sure you installed all the bushings on the strut pistons or were they full assemblies? Did you torque the swaybar links, because even if they are a little loose they will knock going over bumps? It sounds to me like something is loose that you installed and you just need to retighten all the parts you installed. Let me know.
@@EddieCarrara1 I did! I made everything right on top and I tightened the bottom with an impact
It was a quick strut from Detroit axle but everything handles great! I did 90mph on it no problem! But over speed bumps it’s terrible! I’m scared to over tighten the top. Thanks for responding so quick!
@ Eddie Carrara I have a 2002 E46m3 convertible with aftermarket suspension maybe a year old just starting to hear a knocking sound on rear passenger side only when I hit bumps or a bumpy road..it's getting louder now or worse. If parked and I push down on rear passenger side I can hear it knocking as I push down on that side.what could it be?
Hi Puertoroc, check the sway bar links if they break the link can swing and hit other parts of the suspension easily. Let me know what you find, thanks.
@whacky pax Were they broken because of rust or age?
Ok thanks everyone sorry so late with update but it was the bolt on lower shock mount the bolt was loose on passenger side.i tried tightening it but I think its stripped on inside. My 2010 jeep compass is making a rear noise. Sounds like if vehickes uneven it makes it only when backing up and driving at slow speeds once i get to 30 km it stops. If i add weight to my trunk it sounds like it's crunching down on something. Replaced control arms and cv axle with no luck :(
Hi Sonya,
Did anyone check the U-Joints on the center driveshaft? It's possible they are worn and making noise. Let me know.
May i know how to fix the streeing rack issue instead of changing the whole set of steering rack?
Hi Jimmy, what are the symptoms? Leaking seals? Play in the rack shaft? Let me know, thanks.
Hi Eddie. Mine is barely audible outdoors but distinct indoors/underground parking. I have recorded 2 videos where you can hear my sounds here ( @kiL8 & @Z4vw ). Would you PLEASE give this a listen and let me know what part(s) you think is/are responsible for this rather unique sound? I've been to a few mechanics who have all been "unable to reproduce". Thanks for taking the time to create and upload this btw. Hope to hear back.
Hi Katta, can you send me the link to each video? I looked but couldn't find ( @kiL8 & @Z4vw )

I have replaced my lower control arm, inner and outer tie rods, sway bar links, upper control arm, struts and bushings in the front suspension due to wear. I continue to hear a knocking sound over bumps but i havent found the source, any thoughts on this?
The knocking sound feels like it is in the passenger side front suspension
Hey Justin, I recommend you replace the sway bar bushings, the bushings that mound the bar to the frame or sub-frame. When those bushings are worn it will cause a deep knocking noise, especially over small bumps and cracks in the pavement. The bushings are super cheap, like $10. Let me know if this helps and how you make out 🍻
@@justinf7398 check the front and passenger side motor mount. Knocking sound is common there too.
And the steering shaft u joint

Usually, if you feel kickback in the brake pedal that would indicate the ABS is operating. It's possible your ABS is kicking on because of a faulty sensor or a fault in the system.
@@EddieCarrara1 okay thank you but how do i fix that ?? Or their is no way of fixing it
Is the ABS light on? If the ABS pump is what you're hearing you'll need to have the system checked by a professional. The vehicle should still be under warranty?

Does nose dive when braking hard
Almost feels like it's leaning with turns
Any ideas ? Tried calling up ford but they want over 100 bucks to diagnose it.
Hi Jeff, I recommend you do a visual check on the rear shocks if the rear is bouncing. I'm not sure about the nosedive, weak springs in the front?
@2:02 that laugh was funny!
Hey Dave, there was so much play in the steering rack that I couldn't help but laugh 🤣. I don't know how people let these noises go for so long before they have someone look at them 🤪

Surprisingly, our older 98 and 99 Camry don’t have the same issue.
Hi Gary,
Yes, it's possible they are making noise, but there are a lot of things like broken exhaust hangers, motor/transmission mounts, steering rack, etc so I recommend you jack up the front end, support it with jack stands, and start tugging on components to find out what's loose or have someone do it for you because the possibilities are endless! Well, not endless but you know what I mean lol. Let me know what you find, thanks.
Hi when i go downhill... potholes it makes a banging noise took it to several mechanics they couldn’t find the issue... all kept saying “nothing wrong with the car” Need help please
Hi Sufyaan, sometimes the sway bar bushings or links have play that can't be seen with the naked eye. What is the year make and mileage of your vehicle?
Hi i have a sound coming possibly front the back right side of my car. Every time i go over bumps or uneven pavement its makes a sound thats similar to like loose change or keys jangling. Anyone knows what it is ?! Thankss great video btw !
Hi Aichaa, thank you for the feedback 😊 I recommend you check all your sway-bar links, one may be broken. If they all look good, check your control arms for any small rocks caught in them between the spring and control arm, I've see this before and it sounds like a glass cover on a crockpot rattling around lol. Let me know what you find, thanks.

When I turn the wheel it doesn’t make that clicking noise anymore but now going over bumps I can hear nocking noises what’s loose or what needs to be fixed now ?

Man , take care of all those Rusts under your car , they are at advanced stages of Rusting ..
Hi Lennox, I live in NH, rust is normal here because of all the salt and calcium they use on the roads in the winter.
*I heard one big clunk ( front rearward caster arm ), and I went on a $5k plus spending spree on suspension. Lol. But in my defense it is a 18 year old GS300.*
Hey Mr Man, OUCH, that's a lot of cash to drop on a noise, I'm assuming that is also the labor cost?
@@EddieCarrara1 No labor. And that was actually a minor amount. I'm literally replacing ALL suspension parts. Upper Controls arms alone cost around $2500 alone, those where the most expensive outside of the $850 for Tein Coilovers. It's a double wishbone/multi-link system so it's a lot of parts, around like 26 parts in total.
Please help me. My car made a clicking/clunking sounds over the speed bumps so I took the the dealership. The the tech came with diagnostic reports and found nothing wrong. when I drove it home today over the bumps and the sounds went off on me again. I’m so upset right now because I paid money for nothing and that ain’t cheap. 🥴😵💫
Hi Michael, I understand your frustration. My best advice is to return to the dealer and take the tech for a ride and point out the noise.
What if my car only makes the cluck noise when I start putting the breaks on and start slowing down
Hi Juan, I recommend checking the brakes and the suspension where you're hearing the noise because I don't think you have a CV joint problem. Let me know if you have more questions.
Mine is doing this when I'm at a slow 10 to 20 km speed. And it's costed me 2 grand in parts so far
annoying part is my car has the tightest suspension parts and none of it feels loose at all
Hey Techgamer, Sometimes swaybar links or bushing can make a knocking noise and they will not appear to be loose. You have to remember, the force we apply to a suspension with our hands a tools doesn't compare to the force that the weight of the vehicle will on have on it.
Reason 6: Caliper bolts fall out of the slide pins.
True Jlinkous05, I have seen that a few time is my career lol 😂
@@EddieCarrara1 I just fixed that on my new-to-me car. 4 months after purchase, thunking on bumps and then 10 minutes later grinding. Got home a few minutes later, the caliper is fully disengaged from the rotor and the pads are just leaning around about to fall out like a burnt out fast food employee! I'm lucky the piston didn't pop out and drain my whole reservoir
@@jlinkous05 Yes that can be very dangerous. The wheel would prevent the caliper from falling off completely unless both bolts fell out... that would be a mess!!! I'm glad you caught it in time 👍
@@EddieCarrara1 That was it, 0 of 2 bolts attached to a slide pin. The outside of the caliper ground into the inside of the wheel. The last person didn't tighten them well enough and I presume they were both pretty loose and once the first one shook out that the second one shook out soon after.

How many times are you going to say ball joints in this video ? Nothing about a bad strut either …
🤣 Sorry Twitch, Struts will leak oil and the strut will be covered with dirt and oil like in the picture. If your struts look like this they most likely will be making a knocking noise of some sort. Do you have a question I can help you answer?
worn drive shaft doesn't make noise when driving over bumps
you are correct.
quick question: is drive shaft same thing for cv axle?
@@EddieCarrara1 my car makes clunking noise on the uneven roads; I have replaced sway bar links, tie rod ends, struts, and strut mounts. However, the noise is still there. I was playing with CV axles and one of the inner cv axles has play and moving up and down. Do you thinks this CV axle is the one making the clunking noise on the uneven roads?
@@jonghunsong2019 , no, I have never heard a CV joint make noise on bumpy roads. Sway bar bushings ( where the bar is attached to the frame ) is a very common clunking noise on Honda cars.
