Hey kids, its your good buddy Uncle Ben back with a new installment of Meet the Machines!!! While i was recently out at @sweetwater HQ with my man @RiffsAndBeards , i began to ponder a question: is it the size of the amp or what you do with it that matters?!?! I love my Friedman BE 100, but i was so blown away by the adorable BE Mini that i knew i had to compare them and test their might against each other, so in this video, i'm giving you guys a direct A/B comparison of the two amps, as well as sharing the LITTLE KNOWN SECRET HISTORY of how the legendary BE100 came to be (spoilers: it involves a BOG WITCH)!!! So sit back and enjoy, and let me know which amp you like more better! Видеоклипы
If I were Ben I would 100% claim that this is my signature amp, and completely ignore anyone who tells me it stands for Brown Eye....
This is the way
What does HBE stand for?

Such a weird comment
The fact a $329 mini amp sounds that close to a $4000 amp is fucking scary.
Right?!
Boss eq pedal ? Make the difference
I just got my first Friedman amp. I got a Freidman BE-100 Deluxe and a Friedman BE-412 cab. I plugged it in and plugged in my R9 Les Paul and it was the best thing I've ever heard. I didn't touch any of the knobs out of the box. It's an amazing amp. I run it stereo with my JCM800 and it's pure Rock Heaven. I also found out when you run one cab loaded with V30 and G12-75H Creambacks and the Friedman Cab loaded with V30 and Greenbacks the compliment each other perfectly and make a massive wall of sound. I use an Orange Detonator pedal to push the amps in and out of phase. Amazing!
They do have some similar characteristics but there definitely is no mistaking the huge sonic impact of the BE100 kicking you in the chest. Cool!
Merry Christmas Mr. Ben Eller
The MINI sounds more aggressive with the same character as the bigger head. The bigger one sounds more wholesome and round if that makes any sense.
What a great comparison! Very well done!
This was Fun!! Thanks Ben!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
If this was a blind test, I'd really only be able to tell the difference because they're miced up on different speakers which is probably the biggest difference. They both sound super good!!
*Aaaamazing intro,…. Never thought this would ever come to my vision* ❤
I like this guys playing, it seems more in the context of an actual song than a demonstration of fast playing. Good stuff!
Thanks buddy
Happy new year uncle ben 🥳
That story sounded legit.
You always have the sickest guitars and sickest gear, Uncle Ben! I'm currently borrowing a 1999 American standard strat in a discontinued off white finish (you can slightly see the wood grain through the paint). It's fantastic. I think you'd like it. It's actually got a low output bridge pickup, which gives it a very specific sound.
I usually play more "metal" guitars, like my LTD M403HT, or my Jackson Dinky Archtop, but there's something special about strats and Charvels.
I think you just convinced me into buying one. And that guitar is glorious.
Hey Ben. If you had to choose between the BE Mini or the Soldano SLO 30 for 80's Ratt, Dokken, Winger and Metallica/Slayer tones, what one would you choose? Thank you for any information.
Is that a custom Charvel, or a tease at a new color coming next January? Cause I really like it.
Do you like the deluxe better than the be 100? Have you tried the ss v2? Awesome video and plying thanks
The answer is both, with the mini set slightly lower than the deluxe. You'll have the focused solid state sound slightly cut through the more rounded range of the deluxe, kind of how drum triggers are mixed with the analog drum sound.
What was the setup and how recorded?? The cabinets were miced and then DI'ed or...??
*UNCLE BEN!*
*MERRY CHRISTMAS!*
HELLO! MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!
The mini sounds tighter and more compressed. The big one sounds "bigger" and more open. They both sound great. It's more a matter of which sound you prefer. Solid state and digital has come a long way.
That is fascinating. My perception was the exact opposite. Mini sounds more open an less focused. The big one, tighter and more focused. It sounds almost "boxy".
I liked them both,..so the win easily goes to the mini.
Singular has Plural have.
sssir, i am yr great fan u r great player pl give list of riffs you played in this demo want to learn thanks
Ben , i hope you are going to continue making more gear demo's in the future . You rock !!!!
What 4x12 Friedman (or other) would you recommend?
What an awesome , fun and instructive little video , uncle Ben! I use both (plus a Smallbox) and it is amp nirvana for me, cover all bases! Cheers
Love my SMALL BOX!!!!!!
Absolutely amazing intro lmao
I run a Friedman BE-OD Deluxe pedal into my Marshall Origin 50, and it really edifies the voice and feel. I said that to say this.... The difference between the big boy and the mini sounds similar to the differences I get when pushing the matching Marshall Origin vertical 2x12 vs pushing a Peavey 5150 4x12. The core tones are evident in both, which are fantabulous! Great comparison, Uncle Ben! Friedman knocks it out of the park every single time!
Have you used the friedman be-od pedals?
I’ve BEen waiting for this video.
Great demo Ben! Friedman is a F n tone genius in my opinion. To my ears nothing sounds better.. I have the mini BE and run through 2 separate 1x12 cabs and it is a F n beast!!! 🤘🤘
Mini is almost 9 o'clock??? Isn't that only like 1/4 of the way up? Or did you mean it's set on the number 9??🤟
Thanks Ben, best comparison of these two amps yet, both are pretty awesome if you ask me.
“Tell me more, witch.”
Totally snaking that, Unk.
Super review uncle Ben. Thanks!
I was really interested in the MINI but I already have the BE OD. Played into my Orange Super Crush combo sounds awesome.
and holyshit doesthe tiny guy sound awesome its a bit brighter than the bigger one and in some parts of the demo i prefered it over the bigger one
How about some neck and neck/middle position tones? Some of us use them too. Even Eddie did.
Can someone tell me the model of this charvel?
Hi there!
I'm somethat disappointed that it's just one channel.
I have a MXR 10 band EQ pedal. If I put it in the fx loop, pull the gain and push the volume, will I have an ok ,,clean channel" ?
i honestly love the mids on the small guy, it sounds so damn cool
These have been blowin up! I didn't even realize it was your signature amp... That's awesome you deserve it Unlce Ben!!! \m/
It's a joke, man...Not his signature amp. BE stands for Brown Eye, which you can consider a joke from Friedman.
The big guy definitely had that scooped sound that really warms the cockles of my heart. The little guy pushed those mids out front a bit more. Nothing a tone knob can't change!
The mini has a great lead tone right out of the 📦
is it true the mini is the BE OD pedal in a box?
I have always really enjoyed your videos, Ben. Your tone on the BE100 Deluxe was amazing! Would you mind me asking what settings you were using? Thanks in advance!
BE Mini reminds me of some of those 80's guitar tones on records where things did sound a little thin (or less dense) and grindy. BE 100 sounds godly, but the mini could be a good run at capturing throw back tones on a budget for recording if that is your thing.
glad you put links to keys patreon videos, as a patreon member i was kind of lost in the amount of content and didn't know where to head next! thanks uncle Ben
That charvel is gorgeous
BE 100 sounds more cutting. Also low end on the 100 is “better”. The mini sounds a little duller and less lively. Mini is definitely not bad though.
Not sure what you listened to this with. But 100 had a lot of low end obviously, but the mini was way brighter. Maybe you just got confused and didnt look at the comparisons on screen.
Dude, your are awesome. Best guitar channel on RUclips for sure. Thanks for the great content. \,,/
Charvels are my favorite!
What is this amp and where can I buy one?
Who is this man and what is guitar?
I actually prefer the Mini in this clip. I've always found the 100 can sound a little bit too tight and focused, even a bit boxy.
Agree.
What color is that Charvel and where can I get one?
When did you make this video, I bought this guitar from Sweetwater recently, wonder if you used my guitar!! Charvel USA Select DK24 HH 2PT CM - Satin White
Hello Ben, Both amps sound great. It's nice to have options like that. Your Excellent. I hope you and your family have a great Christmas and a Safe Healthy & Rocking New Year. Signed John Gregory / Zepbass. From Munster Indiana.
The big guy has more clarity and a pokey sounding midrange. Overall characteristics are very similar though.
Is it a felony that I like the Mini better?
You could find that low end with a eq. Pedal But man dave Friedman is a genius!
Best intro ever
The BE-OD pedal is ridiculously amazing and the mini is that with a class-d power amp attached. The BE-OD with a clean tube amp is a killer rig. It’s almost silly of him to sell the pedal that competes with his amp.
Except 100 waters at are not really selling since even most gigs won’t let you have 100 watt head cranked.. spending all that on the 100 watt head and getting it stolen or broken is bummer. 100 watts for home use yea no way… so for 249 he can sell 10x what he would sell of the 100 waters
@@Woody103 I crank my 100Wer at home it dont hurt nothin but the paint.
you people will call me crazy if I say I liked more the sound of the mini?
I know that theres the "impact", headroom and dynamic. But in this level of gain, in this volume miced the way it was with good speakers the diference was minimal
( I do believe the speakers makes more difference than the amp itself all things equal)
The main difference is the note separation and how the distortion/overdrive is enveloping the notes. With the BE100 you have this nice mid range and notes that really sing. The BE Mini is a lot fuzzier and the notes kind of get swallowed a bit; it doesn't have the singing quality the big feller has.
However, it does have the same kind of attitude; especially at 10:30 with a lower volume it sounds really good.
Loved the Magical Fairy Tale Uncle Ben and the quality review ...! Cheers
I actually think the mini sounds louder! I'm I way off?
Thank you form the DB Ratting (of the mini). As a gigging guy, on the lookout for a small portable backup unit. That number is important..
Does the mini have an effects loop?
Yup!
@@BenEller Oh wow, that thing is really is the best bang for your buck!
Are you sponsored by charvel now bud because you only ever really played SUHR guitars before ! Great video and great content dude
Nope! Sweetwater doesn’t carry Suhr, so I snagged the closest thing to home they had. REALLY nice guitar!
You should have also included the BE-OD pedal in there for comparison
so the mini is essentially the pedal plus a class D solid state power amp! cool, huh?
Oh, ok. Sweet. That pedal is amazing with the “tight” knob.
I want this pedal so bad!!!
this charvel is very sexy! Nice storytelling man! I got the BE OD Pedal....its nice too!
The mini sounds a little more nasally, it has some bite for sure. You do get a rounder sound with the 100, but the mini is no joke for sure. Yeah, going to hunting for a mini soon, best mini amp of any brand of i've heard. Thanks for the demo.
The sweet sounds of the Brown Eye’d beauties.
I’m talking about the amps not your deep brown hypnotizing eyes Ben.
oh my!!!
@@BenEller my pinky still hates you! But my step mom just subbed your Second channel?!?
Awesome Ben , they both sound great 🤘🇨🇦😎
The real question to me is, does the Mini BE give me that bill kelliher/mastodon sound?
They both sound great to me! That small one sounds crazy good… also, it has my initials, dude!
One thing that just doesn't make sense to me, Friedman = Freedman but fried man =/= freed man.
The mini sounds great but the full size has more girth. Great comparison.
There is a huge selection of awesome Class D amps available these days. I've got a Vox MV-50 that I always tote around as a backup (and I've had to use twice, and I swear no one but me knew the difference). I'm really keen to try the new H&K amps (but, alas, they were not an option when I bought my MV-50). Your BE mini sounds like a great contender. The older I get the more "ease of lugging around" influences my choice of gear. In a side by side A/B comparison you can always hear a difference, but it is probably subtler than the impact of EQ, Cabs, or even picking technique. I think the witch would approve. I certainly do. As does my chiropractor.
Cool video man but the deluxe blatantly sounds much more massive and fuller. Amazing amp company either way....
Thanks for watching!
Your BE referencing was hilarious love it kickass Lil amp packs a punch
Fantastic
Ben eller please tell me your still in East Tennessee
If you dropped the base tones on the mini, then it would be pretty close to its big brother.imho.👍
That Charvel though....
The mini sounds more mid-rangey to me, like a tube screamer. And I want the big amp. Also I want a big empty room to play in.
If the BE 100 is your amp then any JCM Marshall is mine. Jeff Case Marshall. Sweet....
What do You do for Money, Honey?
Lil' guy: Bristle
Big guy: Gristle
Thanks, Uncy Bang!
My experience is smaller amp heads are fantastic for the added grit as a layered guitar. Adds dynamics.
Any reason you didn’t try and make them sound closer perhaps a eq pedal ? With. BE mini ?
They sounded as close as I could get them in the room
@@BenEller
Perhaps another show seeing how close you can get it ?
Can I run in Axefx or helix effects loop

It would be cool to see you play the Bogner Ecstasy mini, it has a "variac" switch and a few other things that the Friedman doesn't.
The little guy has quite a Rhoads 'tribute' vibe to it. Very cool;-)
In the room that Mini THUMPED tho.
It was so sick!
Thumped?
Listened to this through my studio monitors ( Event 20's), The BE 100 had way more bottom end, and the little baby one was way brighter. Balls to you for using a boogie cab for Friedman amps though. :)
Great demo comparison Ben. I've just bagged a mini after watching a bunch of demos. This video was the decider. Anyone in the UK Guitarguitar are selling these for £200 at the moment. There is one problem - It has me really hankering for a bigger Friedman, not a 100w, possibly a JJ or a Runt. Assessing the finance and liquidating some assets.
I feel weird saying this and there are obviously many factors including mic position on the speaker but the mini actually sounds better.
The mini has way brighter upper mids- Ben, did you set the eqs the same for each? The Deluxe has a lot more ooomph in the lower register but also maintains string clarity so well. Imo transistor amps can never quite capture note separation in the same way as valve.
👌
I can still remember the first time I played through a 100w Marshall 1959 with a 4x12 cab. I was 15, it was my brother's amp which he had just bought. The parents had gone out shopping and it was his first chance to turn it up to 10. There is no feeling in the world like the sense of power one feels when in command of such an earth shattering sound machine. Even more exhilarating than firing a large calibre military weapon. You can stick your mini where the sun don't shine as far as I'm concerned 😁🔊
The mini definitely sounds a lot fizzier. I know the price difference between the two is 10 fold, but I’ll still take the 100 watt tube amp any day.
The Deluxe sounds so much better it’s not even a question.
In the room experience is much different than listening to it in a video. A world of difference.
Exactly, on You Tube more mids sound better. I'm sure most will favor the mini here but in real life it's different.
