Jerry Allison played on Buddy Knox's Party Doll using a cardboard box filled with cotton. When he joined Buddy Holly's first band, The Three Tunes, he had to improvise using a box again at Norman Petty's studio. By the time That'll Be The Day came along, he used his drum kit at Petty's studio but had to drum in another room away from the sound equipment. There are probably other early sixties artists he played for, but these are the only ones I know of.
Keep in mind that he was so prolific, that his label kept releasing new material for the next ten years after his death!!! That's how many master tapes and recording he left behind. Pure musical genius...

There's nothing like seeing the expressions of sheer joy on Buddy and his band members' faces whilst performing this timeless song. It's just a little over a minute and a half but, it speaks volumes about not " rock music" but " rock and roll music." inmho, there is a distinct difference.
first song i learned to play on guitar way back in 59.Considering its a chord solo its magic. And the driving beat of the drums .Classic A D E chords.Buddy set the stnd for allto follow.
Buddy Holly did that live. My God, what a talent. I'm not naive, they probably had the studio track blaring from the speakers, but he matched everything word-for-word. No loss.
Buddy Holly is the" uncrowned" King of Rock and Roll, the influence that gave all the sixties groups, is without question and by the way this also includes Cliff ans Elvis. He is up there rockinn and rolling and hopefully some day, I wanna sing this, my fav song with him and the guys.
Buddy Holly was my age when he died...I never knew how young that was until I became his age. He had so much to offer...my god how sad. Rest easy Buddy
It's great the way you can get a video from that era so quickly from just pressing a few keys .Only on youtube can you can do this : ) Thumbs up if agree.
Nobody could sing Peggy Sue like Buddy Holly if you listen very hard to when he's singing you would see that he has a screeching weird voice that made him very special just like Little Richard and The Voice of the greatest piano player in the world Liberace I can sing all kinds of songs from Rock to Country to Classic to Jazz to oldie but goodies to today's songs and I can say I'm very proud of everybody who sings in this world or love to go dancing

if buddy holly had survived then imagine how many more songs he would have made same he is gone
Keep in mind that he was so prolific, that his label kept releasing new material for the next ten years after his death!!! That's how many master tapes and recording he left behind. Pure musical genius...
Ale Vera I know this but imagine how much more famous he would have become and the all the music he could have created even know he did do so much before his passing
@@Morris2906 I know!! Don't get me wrong, I was just pointing out how prolific he was during the brief time he recorded. I can't even get to imagine how much more he would have done!! Cheers!!
Or he might have gone on exhaust fumes. We'll never know.
Mao zedong listens to rock n roll wow
Amazes me that I can watch this, that was on tv long before I was born, and is available here on youtube :D thank you for uploading
2023 and it’s still iconic ❤
It's great music. Totally raw ..
This man and his group were something special! scaring! They have wrote and performed the greatest pop rock music BAR NONE!! Buddy lives!!
Wish there was more footage out there of Buddy performing.
That drum roll and bass and guitar makes the an insane jam...imagine life today with modern equipment..it would be a RAP
Buddy is and was just the best. He hit it like a lighting bolt.
Then in a flash he was gone. Always a "What If" attached to him.
We lost you 59 years ago tonight, oh what might have been. RIP Buddy
The original inspiration for this tune passed away today. Long live Peggy Sue!
Just heard it on the news. 😢
Originally the song was Called "Cindy Lou" it was named after Buddy's niece.
There's nothing like seeing the expressions of sheer joy on Buddy and his band members' faces whilst performing this timeless song. It's just a little over a minute and a half but, it speaks volumes about not " rock music" but " rock and roll music." inmho, there is a distinct difference.
60 years ago today 2/3/19, Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and The Big Bopper all died in a plane crash near Clear Lake, Iowa. RIP
Abandoned Zach yeah amazing how much time has passed
:(
The day the music died eh...

@@geefoo4627, 3rd of febuary,
first song i learned to play on guitar way back in 59.Considering its a chord solo its magic. And the driving beat of the drums .Classic A D E chords.Buddy set the stnd for allto follow.
Love Buddy Holly, and really the drums on this.
Hello
Buddy Holly did that live. My God, what a talent. I'm not naive, they probably had the studio track blaring from the speakers, but he matched everything word-for-word. No loss.
Love the drumming on this.
Just great music man! Love it. Rest in peace Buddy Holly, Richie Valenz and The Big Booper. Love you.
Fun Fact: Buddy Hollys Band was called the crickets. where do you think the beatles got their name?
Hu cool
wasnt the reason why they were called the crickets was they use to like record ina garge and in some of the older songs you can hear cricket chirping?
They almost called themselves Buddy and the Beetles before finally setting on the Crickets.
Didn't John Lennon have a dream about a flaming pie and someone exclaiming, "Let there be Beatles with an A".
isaiah hello
This is one of favorite songs that Buddy Holly it's a shame he died so early RIP my friend
THAT DRUM BEAT WILL NEVER DIE !
UNSTERBLICH danke Buddy Holly
Thank you weezer for helping me get to know this band
Buddy Holly is the" uncrowned" King of Rock and Roll, the influence that gave all the sixties groups, is without question and by the way this also includes Cliff ans Elvis. He is up there
rockinn and rolling and hopefully some day, I wanna sing this, my fav song with him and the guys.
never realised how exceptional that drumming is
Buddy Holly was my age when he died...I never knew how young that was until I became his age.
RIP JERRY AKA BUDDY HOLLY DRUMMER
Happy Birthday to the One and the Only Buddy Holly! He would be 82!
He will never Fade away
60 years ago today, the music died. RIP buddy
Happy 79th Birthday Jerry J.I. Allison !One of the reasons I am learning how to play on the drums! We Love you!
Rock´n´roll will never die !
sadly it has, everything now is dubstep, bad rap that all sounds the exact same, and pop. real genres barely even get on the radio anymore.
@@craig101.2 Nah there are bands like Greta Van Fleet, TDG, Beartooth, milkteeth, etc. Keeping it alive. Thanks to the internet genres that arent mainstream can thrive
+Epic Gamer 101 Did you actually just say dubstep!? That shits been dead for a while now. Its poorly made rap and "contemperary r&b" which is todays trash pop artists like taylor swift, ariana, grande, and so on.
@@jerrysmith2354 lol
@@craig101.2 well you're clearly listening to the wrong music then
Love Buddy's voice. He was the musical influence! Remember dancing to his records in 1958 - no-one to match his rhythm.
Modern stuff right there
Witty.
WeirdChamp
Buddy and the Crickets played at the Globe, Stockton on Tees in 1958.
This sucks lol
Buddy Holly, James Dean, Elvis Presley from the mid to late 50s.
I just love the way the drummer looks like he is having fun !!!!
I’m listening this year 2020, who else?
MeMeMe!! Big fan!
Me...I love buddy holly
2025? who else?
Only 50's kids will remember this
Yeeeeet
Buddy going for the handshake is legendary. Ed had to grit his teeth and do it
