    It’s hard to believe over 60 years later that Ritchie Valens only had a 6 month career. Signed in late July died in Feb. All 3 songs released in his lifetime were hits with one gold record. It’s a shame he didn’t get to grow into his talent a little more.

    Man, Ritchie was HEAVY! That kid was 17 but he had all the chops to belong in the same league with Chuck, Buddy, Elvis...all of them. He needed about two more years to let the lyrical side of his songwriting evolve and he would have surpassed all of them but Elvis. Very underrated. What a terrible loss. God bless them all. May they RIP.

    Ritchie became a rock n roll prodigy at the age of 14! Started out playing in California bootleg joints and Mexican cantinas! And all the while rock n roll was still new and cutting edge for the times. He would have been the Rick James the Prince and the Michael of the 50's and 60's had he lived long enough! Actually there has been music like this lots of times. The punk rock movement in the 70's was heavily influenced by this music. Many Ramones songs were basically just slightly heavier 50's rock. In the late 2000's, there was somewhat of a revival of it. And there are many indie groups now that have a 50's flair to them

      Hell yeah. Long live rock n roll. My Dad was a guitar player & taught me. I’ll be the ripe old age of 43 tomorrow. Dad raised me on all the good stuff-Chuck Berry, Elvis, Buddy Holly, little Richard, Ray Charles, etc. since we’re a Spanish family we always loved our Ritchie Valens & always will. Love The Who, Stones, Beatles, etc. love the harder stuff like Black Sabbath, Metallica, GNR, Def Leppard, & the mid temp guys Bon Jovi, John Mellancamp, Bryan Adams, Def Leppard, etc. if it rocks, it’s for me!!!

    This song and performance gives me chills knowing what would soon happen. It actually scares me...when the girl covers her head all I can see in my mind is the final moments before the plane clash... It’s horrible. Such a tragedy to have lost him at that young age. You just know he had so much more to give the world. I’m 23 and this is far before my time but I miss him all the same, just like I miss Buddy Holly, John Lennon and George Harrison and all the other lost legends of music. If there is an afterlife, I hope they are all jamming somewhere together now.

      Elvis had an unparalleled voice in terms of the beauty of the voice itself with it's rich sound...but Ritchie Valens understood music better, and had more potential to change music by creating songs.

    • @Maridun50

      Richie was so young and greatlooking - he didn't get a chance to unfold his true potential.

    • @Maridun50
      @Maridun50 7 лет назад +51

      Ritchie was a rising star - only 17 when he was killed.
      He was great looking - had sex-appeal - he wrote his own music - played the guitar - he could sing rock'n'roll or ballads equally well.
      He hadn't at all reached his full potential when he died.
      Of course it's a matter of taste who you like the best - but with Richies good looks, his rythm and everything, he could have been a serious rival to Elvis.
