Wonderful project. May I suggest you drill or punch out the firing cap and replace it with a strong neodemium magnet? If you do get it done make sure it is flush with the shell bottom so you can clean the chips by wiping it off.
Hi Steve! I enjoy all your videos very much and gain a lot of information and many ideas from you so Thank You for making them!! I consider you to be a "Expert" when it comes to the smaller lathes as I mentioned before I have a SB 13"x72" tool room lathe that is WELL used lol. I am self taught in machining but I can not seem to hold a tight tolerance on the SB ( I am sure it has a LOT to do with my ability ) and some to do with the wear and tear on the old lathe my question for you is I wanted your input on a smaller lathe that I am thinking of buying if you don"t mind it is a 8x16 mini lathe there are a few sellers of this machine but all are about the same. I think I stand a better chance at learning and advancing much faster with having a lathe that is new or at least in better shape to help me achieve the things I have in mind it is very discouraging to make something only to be unable to get the correct dimensions and not know if it is my inability or process or the machine (more than likely it is BOTH LOL) If you could share your knowledge it would be very much appreciated you have done so much up grades and mods to your lathes I can not think of anyone better to ask.As Always "TWO THUMBS UP Sir and Thank you again !!
Greetings and best wishes from Moscow, Russia! Nice project, good craftmanship and good filming. Thanks for sharing! Just thinking aloud… If that part that goes inside the shell is made longer and has a conical shape, it could eliminate (or minimize) the consequences of accidentally tipping the oiler… which in my case is practically inevitable )))… Like those no-spill inkpots they had at schools many years ago… Thanks again, Steve!
Empty shell cases come in very handy for a variety of uses. I don't have any larger than 30 caliber though. Wish I could get some empty cannon shells but they are getting very expensive because people collect them now.
Hi Steve, wonder if you can help, I have a "Clark" mini lathe the bed measures 19 3/4" , I'm trying to upgrade the cross slide to the version that adds an extra 1" to the travel, The little Machine shop sell the upgrade kit but there is 3 versions and I don't know which one is correct, little machine shop don't seem to have a way to communicate, your help would be appreciated 😀

Great work Steve. Excellent ideal. Looks great. Thank you for sharing.
Excellent project Steve.
Great idea Steve and very nicely done. :)
You could also roll a crimp into the case to hold the aluminum by gently rolling it in a pipe cutter.

That is the link for the 14" but I also like the 16" it just cost a little more
Thanks for the video Steve.
Do you do anything to seal the primer? I would think after time, oil would leak past the primer and shell casing.
Like the videos neat project best i can grab are 50 cal empty brass. But they would make a nice pocket oiler.
Amazing skill

Very Nice craftmanship Sir. It turned out a beautiful Oiler. Thanks for the Video. Best Wishes and Regards from New Delhi, India.
Hi Nikashi. Thanks for watching and for your encouraging feedback. Best Regards Steve.
A lovely project
Any worry about dissimilar metal corrosion with the brass and aluminum?

What lube are you using with the parting tool?
I generally use paraffin on aluminium.
I think I would turn the aluminium into a Projectile shape,
mate...don't take swarf off a running lathe with your fingers... :(
