Something I think I didn’t hear you mentioning in the video was if the new iPad Pros 2021 will have a higher screen refresh rate. I currently own a iPad Pro 2018 and the and the new upcoming iPads look very tempting but if it’s doesn’t have a higher screen refresh rate I don’t think it worth upgrading.

Ipad getting an M1 is a big deal, it means it has the capability of running a computer OS which also means it will be able to run programs like a computer and therefore develop software on it which is what I am most interested in.
Me too, but not so fast.
The problem here is that they can't just throw a MacOS into de iPad Pro because this OS doesn't support 'Mobile' features like touch screen as far as I understand. In that case they would have to overhaul the iPad OS in order to make it more like the MacOS but not quite.

Apple making an iPadOS that can handle all desktop Pro Apps natively or all those big pro apps companies like Adobe making a whole alternate line of their entire suite of programs just for those using iPads Pro exclusively? We’ll have to wait and see how the market evolves in that sense.

How are you going to develop software properly using XCode when you are not working in a proper windowing OS. This iPad will never compete with a MacBook for development.

@@itsmoses7973 windowing OS meaning a proper computer OS, the ipad is not capable yet of running shell comands or execute scripts or compiling software. In my opinion they added the M1 chip and we will see a new ipadOS that will mimic a computer OS where people will be able to develop software.

Tip 1. If you can afford and want a 2021 11” iPad Pro you should absolutely buy one and not be put off by the option of others.
Just sold my 2018 12.9in so I can buy the 2021 11in. I don't want another giant iPad and the M1 is enough reason for me. Also Thunderbolt.

I believe they’ll update iPad os to a Mac OS/iPad OS hybrid. You can use general iPad and iPhone apps and switch between tablet and desktop mode, allowing you to use and get standard Mac applications from the web or App Store. This would be a smart move and directly compete with the Microsoft surface pro tablets/computers

@@donutboy41 the one thing I absolutely love doing on the iPad instead of on my desktop is: filling out PDF Files with the pencil. It‘s just SO much better and more pleasant to do on the iPad because it‘s literally like printing it out, filling it out with a pencil and scanning it back into the PC. It‘s a niche ofc., but I have to do it regularly ever since corona and all the home office lockdown months. My vocational school teachers just love giving out PDFs and it just cuts so much time and intermediate steps.
Thanks for your comparison between the two models - I like the idea of the M1 chip and the 1T storage for off line. These are nice upgrades.

First, thank you for your deep dives into these products. Your research is evident. I watched this vid re iPadOS and iOS. I read that the new iPadPro2021 will use iOS instead. Does that mean that it will run better/ different apps? I don't understand the difference between iPadOS and iOS.

The 12.9 inch version is definitely the one to get, but remember,, the M1 chip is in both. I have a feeling/hoping that at WWDC in June, they will announce MacOS on the iPad Pro. If you ever wanted MacOS on an iPad, you will need the 2021 version, even if you settle or prefer the 11 inch version. Both versions start at 8Gb of memory and up to 16Gb if you opt for the 1Tb or 2Tb version so says Apple's website. Bringing MacOS to iPad would also explain why they didn't announce any optimized Mac software for iPad. They won't need to if iPads run MacOS.
macOS is never coming to iPad that’s what IPad OS was created. They will just continue to make desktop level iPad versions of their programs like final cut so that they all work well with the touch screen.

You didn't mention whether or not the magic keyboard from the 2020 works on the 2021 in both sizes. I believe it does - nothing much mentioned about it on apple site.

What I find odd, Is that Apple still hasn’t included the stock calculator app on their iPads, Why is this what problem could there be with having that on the iPad?....And yes I know you can just download an app but in a way should have to when the iPhone & I think even the iWatch and obviously computers all have it....

As a primary school teacher who also codes and does video editing, I really enjoy using my Macbook Pro for those tasks as well as general admin. However, I'll be upgrading from my iPad Pro 2017 with Gen 1 Pen, to the 2021 iPad Pro 12.9" with Gen 2 Pen and possibly keyboard case because I'm really after to bigger drawing surface for taking notes and doing my Procreate art. I'm very interested to see how FCPX works on the iPad Pro but I'm not holding my breath.
Given that the M1 is the single most important feature of the 2021 iPad pros the recommendation to go for an A12X/Z 11" iPad pro instead of the new one makes no sense to me. The pro software and features are coming and with certain apps they're already here. Also, getting a significant CPU and RAM upgrade is going to make the iPad pro 2021 pretty future-proof. I reckon if you get one now, you'll be good for several years.

I am planning to upgrade my old ( very old iPad Pro ). In order to plug in a music keyboard, I needed an Apple camera connection dongle to power the iPad as well as connect the keyboard to a powered hub. The question I have is, will a Thunderbolt hub both power and enable me to connect a musical keyboard controller to the iPad thunderbolt port? Is the camera connection dongle unnecessary?

The gaming controllers like PS5 and Xbox are supported in the 2021 iPad pro models and there is something I heard about haptic feedback as well compatible in it. I would love to hear more about that as well.

Maybe unifying the OS across the platforms, and allowing the work to flow across the devices.
Say drawing or animations being made on the iPad Pro and exported to the other devices for rendering, which allows you to keep working on the next episode of the project or the next project, while your Mac mini quietly renders away.

I have just purchased an I pad pro 11 2021 in pristine condition for £519. The difference from my I pad 9 is staggering.
I got the 11 iPad Pro and I love it, use everyday! I use my ps4 controller and play cod mobile. And steam my shows. 12.9 was a little too big for me.

I haven’t reached the limits of my 2020 11” iPad Pro yet. So I think I’ll stay put for the moment. But thanks for the informative video, Daniel. The battery life on the new model is interesting, but my iPad Pro shoulder bag always has a charged 20,000 mAh power bank in it. So I’m never worried about battery death on my 2020 Pro.
Everyone has different preferences, that said, the iPad Pro will serve its user’s purpose differently upon personal needs just saying. Having powerful this or that means nothing if device’s battery 🔋 life isn’t enough to keep up with long day activities. But again, everyone’s usage is different so no one can tell someone else what is Or isn’t enough. Just saying ✌️
Just got the m1, since the older version is out of stock. I got the 128GB 11”. It is my first ipad, in my opinion right now is any version ipad you got right now is the right choice for you. Ipad pro has more value for professional who needs powerful device that you need for your video rendering or content consumming.
If someone buys an iPad Pro, he buying it for being Future proof, for people like that + - 100$ difference between the M1 and the A12X is probably a no brainer for the M1 one. So even if its the 11" model, for long term use the M1 is a way better deal imo.
Not to mention that the new iPad Pro will probably get many thing what the previous ones can't just cause of the Macbook CPU and the major bonus horsepower.
You are right. The 11 inch model is for the major in my opinion. The 12 inch is too big and only has a improved display. The 11 inch is perfect value.
My 2018 ipad pro is my only computer and honestly I don’t miss a “computer” at all and with the new 12.9 the offering is just the best on the market by far in terms of creative workflows, I can’t wait to get my hands on that screen that’s just fantastic. Anyway awesome vid as always😁

I use my 2020 iPad pro 12.9 to make notes and write tests so I don't need the m1 . Anyway nice vids keep it up

I have a feeling that at WWDC, the iPad m1s will get macOS dual boot. The design of Big Sur and the iPads M1 hardware are too compatible to be a coincidence. That may be a reason to get the M1 11 inch iPad vs the 2020 or 2018 ipads
I don’t think that Pro Apps will come to the iPad as that would defeat the purpose of a MacBook.
Also, me personally I prefer productivity apps (e.g. Microsoft office) on MacOS; it just feels a bit limited on the iPad.

I agree, Daniel needs to stop telling people to get a 3 year old model iPad.
Also the 2018 iPad isn’t getting that much cheaper. I would rather pay a bit more for the extra performance and RAM. By the time Final Cut Pro releases on the iPad, there will be a huge difference between the two. Thunderbolt is really useful too.
