I went to Florence this summer (2017), and it quickly became my favorite destination ever, and I've been to a lot of places. Italy in general was magnificent. Go there if you can, you won't regret it.
Can I add a couple of things to this excellent guide. If you are driving in, parking is easy. The perimeter road has a number of underground car parks. We used the car park at the Fort, next to the railway.Also,although the outside market was mentioned there is also a wonderful indoor market selling meat, olives, wine etc. This starts early and finishes early afternoon. Its worth seeing Florence during the day and then at night as the ambience changes. Night or day this city is wonderful.
I believe that the food in Italy is better than any country on the planet. The people were very kind and helpful. I continue to wonder why I returned back to the U.S. because I could have stayed there forever. Michelangelo's David literally took my breath away and watching this video was like being back in Firenze again. THANK YOU!!!

Fare means to make or do. Avere means to have. So no, "È troppo caro. Mi farebbe uno sconto?" literally means, "It's too expensive. Will you make me a good discount"
Didn't say anything about leather clothing? Florence is the best place on Earth to be a leather jacket. I bought two and only paid half the asking price.
