  • In this first pitch of the MSR Tindheim 2 I take you through all the details plus pitching and striking tips for strong winds.
    MSR kindly sent me this tent for my opinion, I really appreciate this!
    www.msrgear.com/ie/tents/back...
    Worth reading the FAQ section!
    Tindheim means ‘Peak - home’, and it promises to be just that.
    This tent represents a new direction for MSR as they are well known for their inner pitch first ( with a foot print attachment option- outer first) and rather mesh laden tents. Typically what the North American markets want. This tent seems to be sitting orientated towards the Northern European market and it seems well suited to typical British hill conditions.
    I think this tent represents great value. It looks very similar to a Hilleberg Nammatj 2 but at a fraction of the price.
    Keep an eye out for this tent to feature in a big 2 person tunnel tent line up I have planned.
    This includes the recently reviewed Vern 2.

    Best and most substantial review I've found on this tent so far! Thank you so much. I ordered this tent today for 265 pounds. For this price, it feels like I won the lottery. Can't wait to try it out. Cheers from Norway! 😊

      Seconded on them bringing out a higher spec version, I would add as well as your points, making the bathtub a little deeper , a thicker pole would be good too. Thanks for commenting A.

      Hi Trudy, glad you enjoyed it! It tapers to 1.02 m, but that is just the last bit, the diagram that MSR have on their website is not well scaled. Hope that helps.

    You answered your own question, it is a 3 season tent which is not in the same league as the nammatj which is really a 5 season tent. The tent though looks great.

    Strange that no channels ever mention the Vango Xenon? Now there’s an Airbeam version too. Much better tent in many aspects. The MSR is like a toy. Vango have been doing the tunnel tent better for decades at much lower weights too.

    • @Fellmandave1
      @Fellmandave1  5 месяцев назад +1

      Have a look at my battle of the tunnel tents video. i did the vango xenon UL 2+ then. Also Andrew Park outdoors has used the standard xenon 2 a lot. They all have pros and cons. I liked the xenon but thought it too floppy, especially with those pencil thin poles. I returned it and got the sydvang skaring 2p which was superior in every way. The airbeam version has to be worth a second look though I am sure, thanks for commenting!

    A few observations ... the fabric of the footprint seems somewhat insubstantial as I watch the wind play with it. Does MS provide fabric samples pre-notched so that one can see how tear resistant the materials are, as Hilleberg does, or are we to take the marketing departments word for it? I will look forward to hearing further reports on how this tent is in use. The color of the tent is kind of nice, but I wish the inside looked more cheerful. It seems to have a drab vibe, which would depress me after a few days in gloomy overcast weather. What size are the zippers? Are they #3 or #5 and who makes them? I like the sylpoly materials better than Nylon even though nylon is stronger, because of the smaller sag after a wet day. Good detailed review, but my preferences would lean towards a 3 man version for two people, were I want to go in this general direction.

    • @Fellmandave1
      @Fellmandave1  Год назад +4

      Good points but disagree on the inner colour. Not drab at all. The foot print is 68 d, quite thick. Real world use is happening right now in fact.

    Nice overview of the tent. How does it hold up against the vern 2? I know you sleep widthwise in the vern 2 and it's more expensive (but not that much), but what does the tindheim has over the vern? I have the feeling the vestibules are much more usable in the vern 2, is that right?

    • @Fellmandave1
      @Fellmandave1  Год назад

      Hi Luuk, good question, I would say inner for the Tindheim and vestibules Vern 2. I have to do more use before I have a preference though.

    Great review. Do you think that this tent would be good for winter camping like the Hilleberg Nammatj? Thanks in advance.

    • @Fellmandave1
      @Fellmandave1  10 месяцев назад

      Hi Francois, thanks for the comment. I have not had opportunity to test the tent extensively yet and MSR only bill it as a 3 season tent. However, I feel that it has a lot of great properties that make it suitable for winter use, including good guying and a deep bath tub. The caveat is not controlling the front vent and the pole diameter is not really thick for a large tent.
      it depends what you mean by winter of course, if you mean the vast majority of wind and rain conditions we all encounter, yes, if you mean howling blizzards, then I am not sure. i don't think it will let you down though in the vast majority of conditions.
      Otherwise it is great value and definitely worth a trial.

    Hello. How well does the ventilation in the tent work? Will it be very hot in fine weather? Considering that the inner tent is without mesh? Will there be a problem with condensation?

    • @Fellmandave1
      @Fellmandave1  11 месяцев назад +1

      Hi. Thanks for your comment. I have only had the chance to use the tent for 1 night so far. But with the large vents I am sure it will be quite good with condensation. Plus, you can make the whole door mesh. In the northern uk, especially in the hills, we get very little hot weather. It would be rare it went above 20c for instance above 500m. If you were regularly in very warm conditions I would choose a tent where you can buy different inners. What country are you in?

    • @Denis_Klosov
      @Denis_Klosov 11 месяцев назад +2

      I am from Latvia and it is quite warm here in summer. But a tent is needed for Norway, Finland, Sweden. A month ago I was in Norway and I was probably lucky, but the temperature at night did not fall below +10
