Two nights and two tunnel tents review in the Lake District. The first night was pretty pleasant, the second night was a wet Hell, I needed to get the tent up really quickly, as in worstening conditions my son was getting really wet and cold. So how did the tents do?

Absolutely marvelous memories being made there...being wet and cold just adds to them being cemented. Maybe at the time not the best, but those are the extra special ones I have with my dad. So wonderful! Bruce and Otis

Glad you enjoyed it Tom. TBH I nearly broke the boy on this one, not easy filming either. Thanks for commenting once again Tom.

One of the best things I did before my HML assessment was to take my children hiking and camping. Apart from Bronze DofE practice walks I normally hike by myself and always need to make myself remember how to behave when looking after a group when walking. I’m now working towards my ML assessment hopefully next year and enjoyed your ML videos. Thanks

Yes, they are good practice material! Good luck with your assessment, I really miss the journey. Thanks for watching.

    Nice Dave 😁
    Interesting landscape up there.
I love the way most tunnel tents quickly spring to life, my Australian one only requires 3 pegs and you're in.
    Cheers

Thanks Andy, which is the 3 pegger?

@@Fellmandave1 Wilderness Equipment First Arrow UL .
Obviously there are multiple other peg out points and guylines for rough weather but the structure is up with 3 pegs, 1 at the rear and 2 at the front.
I have owned several of their tents going back to the 90s.
If you ever want to try one let me know Dave.
      Cheers 😁

Ps i noticed you have scarpa boots. I have a pair from 1982 which i retired (probably a resole and they would still be going), anyway i bought replacements. Did a hike and the soles fell off 1/2 way along the trail. Very difficult walk back i can assure you. Lookkng at a pair of Hanwags now

Blimey! Had a few pairs of Scarpa over the years and have found them to have consistent quality. I hope you got your money back.

The Vern handled that really well by the looks of it, didn't seem to miss the crossing pole either. If it came with an MSR style 3/4 length inner I think I'd be sold, I'd trade the extra vestibule for room to sleep lengthways and starfish I think 😁

Aye Nick, but no perfect tents, you just adapt and enjoy. Thanks for commenting.

Had a few tunnels like the Hilleberg Tarra, Nammatj , Nallo, and currently the anjan 2 and Akto. I like how you improvised and hung wet clothes over the top of the inner doors. One thing I did was hang wet clothes outside the inner on the elasticated attachments to the outer.
Considered using delta pegs for soggy ground?

I know,I know. I did have a campaign against 'vestibule' too as it's a porch. I blame the Americans and their draughty tents.

I bought the Vern2 MK1, my intention is to use it with my 9 year old son, we have been out in fair weather, but I thought it would be safe if unexpected weather rolled in, we pitch close to summits in the lake district. After the versions 1 and 2 failing in around 40mph winds, I an questioning my level of trust in this brand anymore, can I ask what you think the upper limit for the old vern 2 might be ? what was the wind when you where up Mell fell ? the dealer told me they had had it in 47MPH winds, I don't think I believe that anymore, however it is basically a tunnel tent and they are normally good in the wind. however I suppose the weak point is the vestibules end triangles ? I'd grateful for your thoughts

Hi, firstly don't alter your faith in Nortent. I don't and I was there! Secondly, the Vern 1 ran into trouble in winds exceeding 55mph, this is extreme and the Vern 2above 45. But these were conditions particular to that time and every pitch is diffferent. The vern 2 Mk 1 is a great tent. the winds on mell fell were around 30. The tent had no problem at all. I cannot say what maximum winds it could cope with as i have not tested it myself in anything stronger. However, i feel the end triangle to be an excellent wind reseistant design. I will be doing some further testing myself with the Verns. I have kept my Mk1 vern 2. Brilliiant tent. Just get out and enjoy and like any trip especially with youngsters, check the forecast and have a bale out plan.

That's from a different tent Chad. They never did a footprint for that mkI Vern 2. They do now though.
