Once you’re familiar with this strategy, instead of simply holding shield, you can pressure the opponent’s ledge stall with downtilt, and then react to the startup of their ledge option with shield. This will force them to pick an option before they lose invincibility, and still allows you to use all the out of shield punishes shown in this video
@@sohamgupta9119 if you expect a getup attack, regular getup, or roll, you can react to their getup animation with a shield after the downtilt pressure and still punish those three options on reaction
I would add to this: - Fading in to bait an option and fading back and punishing with either an F-Tilt or a landing F-Air. Both of those moves can cover rolls and getup attack and jump depending on spacing. - Landing N-Air near the ledge as it covers a wide area and is safe. - Rolling behind and grabbing is a classic for any character but that’s more of a read.
This guide is super helpful. Thank you so much. Seeing what Ike can do at ledge looks so awesome. Also, I remember hearing "Just ledge trap. It's easy. It's a free win if you have your opponent at the ledge" back when I played Smash 4 Corrin (and Ike later on). It didn't really help, especially with my horrible self-esteem back then. And on top of that, I was being pressured to never miss ANY juggles with Corrin as well. When I would play Ike and not care about if I won or lost with him, I noticed I did better with ledge trapping because the pressure was gone. Also also, your videos really encourage me to play Ike more. :)
so basically just up b and grab OoS? i think my 1 braincell dedicated to playing ike can learn that *for real tho, this helped me out a lot, thank man* edit: that doom when the Luigi grabs you killed me
I think we could talk about Ike's neutral B here. It hitbox is huge ! If well positionned, Ike can catch a jump, a roll (because it also hit behind him), and also 2 frame or catch someone hanging on the ledge. What do you think about it ?
Great vid but something you forgot to account for is the 4 frame penalty for shieldgrabbing in ultimate. It takes 11 frames for a grab to come out if you shield grab, rather than the typical 7 otherwise. Also, input delay needs to be considered ( although you did touch on it.) so to grab a frame 35 neutral get up, it’s 35-11-6=18 (6 being input delay and 11 being shield grab). You have 18 frames to react offline, and less online. As you also mentioned, twitch reacting frame one to the persons getup animation can’t work all the time, and if you wait until you discern the animation, you most likely won’t react in time. What can be better if you can’t react to something is to instead pick an option that covers multiple options while also being safe, such as a buffered fair on reaction to a persons getup and fading away with it. Just my two cents.
This is not really true. The extra 4 frames is only if somebody hits your shield. You get put in a kind of “shield lock” for 4 frames before you can start your grab (this is why they call grab out of shield frame 11). So it doesn’t apply in the case of grabbing neutral getup
I really like the ftilt as an option. Space yourself so that your ftilt barely hits them in their normal getup position and as soon as you see them do shit you ftilt. It is possible to hit the 1 frame of vulnerability on the normal getup and if you have the timing down, this sequence beats Normal Getup, Roll, Attack as well as most release attacksfrom ledge making ledgetrapping essentially a 50/50. If you actually can react to ledge jump there is not much they can do. I like this sequence cause you are not restricted by shielding and are in a much more favorable position and hitting an ftilt is more rewarding than a grab or even the reverse aether for rolls.

If the opponent uses Getup attack then this method don’t work

The ledge gives you intangiblility. Not invincibility.

The number of people attacking a full shield with get up attack in this video is painful

Thank you, most people don’t cover the fundamentals of ledgetrapping and how to do it which is why this video helps me a lot, I appreciate it :)
Wow thanks a bunch for this guide. I'm getting back into Ike, and I'm learning a lot in a short span of time. This is extremely helpful
You are a life saver to me as an ike main

Just what I’ve been waiting for
so basically just up b and grab OoS? i think my 1 braincell dedicated to playing ike can learn that
*for real tho, this helped me out a lot, thank man*

Dope, can't wait for the advanced guide

This gives you 22 frames which is doable offline and very difficult online
@@SoloJones good to know i thought the 4 frame was applied no matter what.
Thank!
