    TIP: If your gel isn’t getting it JET BLACK, microwave the grayish buttercream until melted. It will be jet black when it melts! Then let it come back to room temp or chill and stir every 5 min. :-)

      But it stains pine woodworking projects beautifully. It is the only true way I have found to "ebonize" pine. I know, it's a food channel, but I was hoping to find out how that specific brand makes that Super Black food coloring, because that is what I use. I just decided to try it on a woodworking project because pine is hard to stain black with the expensive stuff you buy at Lowe's and other stores. This certain brand of food coloring in the Super Black color worked wonderfully. For the first time ever, the pine didn't blotch and look horrible and I didn't have to put sanding sealer and several other expensive products on the wood to get it to stain more evenly. I love that something without harsh chemicals in it can be used as a stain.

    ahhhhh its so beautiful, black is the colour of my soul, its speaking to me!!! Every time I want to use black, my buttercream ends up too runny because I put to much black food colouring in there to get it black. Ill try gel paste instead, it looks like it would be SOOO much easier to work with! Thanks Jen! I really appreciate you taking the time to do these types of videos!

    • @JennJohns
      @JennJohns  7 лет назад +1

      It is definitely...for future reference, when you're needing to add anything to a buttercream, hold off on all the liquid that the recipe calls for until you have the color or flavour you want...and then if it is still too stiff add more.

    Black cocoa powder or Ultra Dutch processed cocoa powder means you need very little gel colour. And as you said, let it rest and the colour continues to deepen. For dark colours, I make them the day before, pop them in the fridge overnight, bring them to room temperature the following day, whip it up again and voila, super dark icing.

    Wow! Thank you! i have not been able to get my frosting so black without buying pre-made in a tube or using the spray. One is expensive and the other is so messy.
