I honestly don’t know how they pick the books! And I feel really strongly that only first in series should be considered. Book 4?! Anyway, my fave fantasy of the year is This Woven Kingdom by Tahereh Mafi. It is steeped in Persian mythology and the last line made me scream out loud. So good!

The Lost Metal is SOSOSOSO GOOD. It made me laugh and ugly cry, the way it connects to the Cosmere is pure chef’s kiss. Mistborn has my whole heart.

The Golden Enclaves is Book 3 to Scholomance, I think the weaker out of 3. Book 1 and 2 are awesome. Urban fantasy , where the background is a magical school where the students are never safe and the MC is a anti-hero. I think you would deffo enjoy the first two books!

Gah I really didn't like the 1st one and I'm still reading it a year and a half later, the amount of danger packed into each line is exhausting, there's no reprieve from it. Interesting story, but lacks in execution per my opinion.

I really got caught up in the hype of CC2. My friend group was losing it for it so I was really excited about it, and read it really quickly. I was like OOOOOO DUDE for a day or so when I finished, but then I just sort of forgot about it. It didn't stick with me the way other SJM books usually do. It was the pacing, and whatever the heck she's going to do with the next few books. It felt like Too much but also not like a lot happened until the end. Which, honestly, tracks for SJM.

I think the first round books are “picked” by the algorithm, based on how many people have that book shelved - which is how books that have only just been released or sometimes even ones that haven’t yet been released end up on the list. Just one of many reasons the Goodreads Choice Awards are perennially infuriating!

Regarding the War of Two Queens, I'm currently starting on it. Book 1 was great because you start to discover new things about the characters and it's interesting. Book 2 starts to reveal some truths behind the characters. Book 3 start to solidify the romance and figure out the main character but I agree that the author is starting to make their steamy conversations repetitive. Like almost predictable and tiresome. Still, I like the story overall and want to continue reading just to find out how it will go despite the "ooh, you're feisty, I like it" repetitive lines. But you're wrong about it being a vampire vs werewolf thing. It's so much more than that.
