What I love about my Oasis is the buttons and the screen that flips over. I really hope Amazon comes out with a Paperwhite (or equivalent) that has page-turn buttons, like the Oasis. I hope I can make mine last a long time. 😟
They could've contended with the Kobo Libra color. I think theirs would've sold insanely well but missed the ball. I won't wait another year for them to bring it out. I'll just grab the Kobo I felt like I waited plenty of time to see if they'd come out with one.
This is like picking a computer monitor in 1985 all over again. We all know we want color but those monochrome monitors have sharper text and you know that’s what you’re going to be looking at 99% of the time.
yeah those displays are significantly different! I'm really glad I caught this preview before ordering. Also the page-turning lag seems worse on the color.
For me not quite 99% but agree. If I'm looking at art books or color photos, I'll switch to an ipad app or pc. I want an e-reader mainly for reading black and white and personally its not worh it for me to compromise the reading experience for so-so color. The tech just isn't there yet.

I was hoping Amazon was gonna use a different technology for the first color e-ink but I guess the Kaleido 3 is the only real viable option at this point.

That's awesome that you were invited to the Amazon event! 👏🏻 After watching several reviews on the new launch (your review kind of pushed me over the edge 😆), I decided to bite the bullet while Amazon was having their "Black Friday" sales and purchased the new Paperwhite. It arrived yesterday and I can't believe how much snappier it is, compared to my previous Kindles. I was hesitant to trade-in my 11th gen Paperwhite, but I'm so glad I did! 📚 Thanks for all the great info!
I had a long conversation with a Kindle Scribe product manager when it launched. I told him the plastic eraser had an unsatisfying feeling because it feels like you might damage the device. He said they went with the plastic tip because technically the plastic is softer than the screen, therefore there wouldn't cause damage and were concerned that a rubberized tip would wear down over time. I told him my RM2 marker has been erasing for years (I make a lot of mistakes) and hadn't worn down in any noticeable way, so he noted that detail. Glad to see they changed it, makes me wonder if my feedback helped lol
I recently got a Kindle basic a couple of months ago, and I've already read over 30 books, broadened my reading comfort zone and got into the daily habit of reading more. Thanks, Maneet Paul for convincing me to get one! Also so far, I'm most interested by the kindle paperwhite as a gift for my parents. Looking forward to your reviews of them!
They missed the easiest thing, which is the ability to upload our own PDF as a template in the Notebooks section. Glad to see I can use some of the software features with my OG scribe

I like the new color one and may buy one in the future. I also like the Scribe and note taking. I also buy regular book. I purchased “The Wild Robert Trilogy” books. i will get a new reader this year. but it will be a tolino shine. pocketable, durable, fast, waterproof, carta 1300 display, 6 inches, warm frontlight, reads epub, it’s just the perfect device for me. ❤ but if i needed to have a kindle, i would definitely go for the basic, because it’s the only one that fits a pocket.

The color soft looks great but I absolutely love my Boox color go 7. And I can do more on it than a kindle. I like the new gem colors of the kindle though.

I was deciding between the kindle colorsoft and the Paperwhite and ultimately went with the Paperwhite. Even though I’ve been wanting a color Kindle for a while and thought it would be my next big upgrade, clarity is key for me especially since I wear glasses. I removed the Paperlike screen protector from my iPad because of the same "haziness" issue, so as much as I’d love to see some of my book covers come to life with color, I think I’ll wait for the next generation of colorsoft. For now upgrading my Paperwhite is worth it with the bigger screen size and better contrast, especially with my trade-in. Hopefully in 2-3 years, we’ll see a color Kindle I can fully get behind!
Woa lol im just so mind blown. They did a great job with the margin feature also. I have the kobo Libra Colour and that would be so amazing to have since the screen can be small. Still love the KLC but wow that is nice
It would have been so nice if it did come in a colored version, the scribe. I know people have said about the scribe that not all books are markable? I wonder if that’s the same here. Like can you mark up library books?
Thank you for the support! Yes it does! Though, they don’t call it dark mode. There is a setting right next to the “styles” option that allows you to choose the paper color. White and black are the two options.
I bought a Scribe a couple months ago & was disheartened to see a new one coming out. I appreciate the software updates for previous models because they are what I was hoping for when I bought mine. I love the Scribe and am looking forward to the improvements. Now, if they’d make it easier to organize our library.
I was really hoping the new Kindle Scribe would feature a color display, using E-Ink's Gallery 3 technology. However, it's imperative to praise the Kindle team for accessing most of the well known usability issues like annotations. Those are very good improvements and shows Amazon is paying attention to their customers. In the future I would expect color display, but that's going to be 4 or 5 years, meanwhile the new existing color eink technology will mature to the point of being worthy of being integrated into a big product like Kindle.
I don’t really know if they’re listening too well as they went away with the Oasis which seems like a very popular ereader. The only reason that people forego the Oasis is it’s ridiculous price tag
I recently purchased a Paperwhite. Since that model had been around for a while, I was concerned that there must be a new version just around the corner, and I would regret not putting off my purchase until the new version was released. But I bought it anyway. Your review of the new Paperwhite has put my mind at ease, as there doesn’t appear to be any significant improvements. Not enough to make me regret purchasing the old model, which is a relief. 😅 Thank you for the update. 🙏🏻
Great content as always! The paperwhite is my preferred e-reader. I tried to kobo color earlier this year, but I did personally feel eye strain and headaches when using it for long reading sessions. Because of this I ended up returning it. I hope the colorsoft isn’t the same experience. I will see soon, as I preordered the colorsoft yesterday.

I have had Kindle paperwhites for years. I also purchased the smallest Kindle Fire and use that A LOT as my Kindle. It's pretty much the same size as a paperwhite and is a regular color screen, so it's sharp and the colors are juicy. It's a treat alternative for me to get a color Kindle. Bonus is that I can check email and other stuff as well.
What a great and useful introduction! It shows that you have a personal attachment. Thanks for showing the difference in display brightness between color and paperwhite. Also thanks for showing page turn. Kindle has come a long way since the keyboard. I think I will finally upgrade.

Great video, Maneetpaul! The changes to the Scribe (especially being able to write directly in books, even if you can't write on top of them) is a nice quality of life thing. And, similarly, the margin thing looks great. They're finally leaning in to taking notes on books. The Colorsoft doesn't impress me much, though. Yeah, it's a color Kindle, but I don't see how it's any better than any other color e-reader out there. This is kind of what I was afraid of. My assumption was that they were waiting to release a color Kindle until they could release something with really rich color. But looking at the footage, all I'm seeing are the same pastels that other color e-readers produce. I just find that really hard to get excited about. If they were going to go that route, they should've at least made it pen-enabled so it could compete with the Kobo Libra Colour.
I bought a Kobo Libra Colour a few weeks ago and I thought I would regret that once Kindle updated.. and I'm glad I to the Libra Colour. The form factor of the Kobo is what I wanted and I just can't with these tablet form factors. I need my grip edge!!!
They missed a trick not having colour and annotation in one kindle and also being able to annotate the way a kobo looks to be able to. I waited to see what kindle would do but seems it's still a long way off what I expected to see. Great video!

I got a paper white 3 weeks ago. I’m not even upset I didn’t wait till now. Not that much of a difference. I plan on using it for atleast 6 years before I buy a new one.
awesome review. i was waiting for amazon to come out with a color kindle. however since i mostly read black and white text, and the text and colors on the color kindle aren't as sharp as i'd hoped, i think i'll skip the upgrade for now. Im sure they'll improve on it soon.

Looking to upgrade my gen 7 finally and this summarized them all so perfectly. I was leaning towards the Colorsoft cuz it seems like the most “premium” option, but was so hesitant cus I don’t *need* the color option, so this helped me decide on the Paperwhite (in Jade!). Still gonna hang on to my Kindle Voyage as long as I absolutely can. I've owned a few various Kindles, and this by far has been my favorite.

That's why I decided to treat myself and ordered both (very wasteful I know 😥)
I have had Kindle paperwhites for years. I also purchased the smallest Kindle Fire and use that A LOT as my Kindle. It's pretty much the same size as a paperwhite and is a regular color screen, so it's sharp and the colors are juicy. It's a treat alternative for me to get a color Kindle. Bonus is that I can check
email and other stuff as well.

What a great and useful introduction! It shows that you have a personal attachment. Thanks for showing the difference in display brightness between color and paperwhite. Also thanks for showing page turn. Kindle has come a long way since the keyboard. I think I will finally upgrade.

The changes to the Scribe (especially being able to write directly in books, even if you can't write on top of them) is a nice quality of life thing. And, similarly, the margin thing looks great. They're finally leaning in to taking notes on books.
The Colorsoft doesn't impress me much, though. Yeah, it's a color Kindle, but I don't see how it's any better than any other color e-reader out there. This is kind of what I was afraid of. My assumption was that they were waiting to release a color Kindle until they could release something with really rich color. But looking at the footage, all I'm seeing are the same pastels that other color e-readers produce. I just find that really hard to get excited about. If they were going to go that route, they should've at least made it pen-enabled so it could compete with the Kobo Libra Colour.

I bought a Kobo Libra Colour a few weeks ago and I thought I would regret that once Kindle updated.. and I'm glad I to the Libra Colour. The form factor of the Kobo is what I wanted and I just can't with these tablet form factors. I need my grip edge!!!

They missed a trick not having colour and annotation in one kindle and also being able to annotate the way a kobo looks to be able to. I waited to see what kindle would do but seems it's still a long way off what I expected to see. Great video!
Not being able to annotate books on the first Scribe was a deal breaker for me… I think the new one might have solved that. Thanks for the clear reviews!
I love my Kindle Scribe and am so excited that we get the software updates and also the new pen is backwards compatible. Whoohoo!!
I got a paper white 3 weeks ago. I’m not even upset I didn’t wait till now. Not that much of a difference. I plan on using it for atleast 6 years before I buy a new one.

awesome review. i was waiting for amazon to come out with a color kindle. however since i mostly read black and white text, and the text and colors on the color kindle aren't as sharp as i'd hoped, i think i'll skip the upgrade for now. Im sure they'll improve on it soon.

Thank you for making a point on the feel of the backs! Only issue I ever had with the Oasis was my hands getting sweaty holding the back! The metallic finish was scaring me about the PW Signature - ordered one now after your video!
Looking to upgrade my gen 7 finally and this summarized them all so perfectly. I was leaning towards the Colorsoft cuz it seems like the most “premium” option, but was so hesitant cus I don’t *need* the color option, so this helped me decide on the Paperwhite (in Jade!).
