"From what I've been through, from what I've seen, I never thought I'd be in this position where I'm at right now." -2x Super Bowl Champ L'Jarius Sneed
As we continue to make our way through NFL Training camps, we are nearing the end of the tour which means Football season is around the corner and we are sitting with star players from around the league getting inside scoop, hearing never-told-before stories and going inside the locker room mentality of the 32 teams as they prepare for the 2024 season.
Tennessee made big moves this offseason by revamping their secondary, acquiring two-time Super Bowl champion L'Jarius Sneed from the Kansas City Chiefs who is embracing his new role with the Titans as the cornerstone of the team's defense. During our Pivot training camp visit, Ryan, Fred, and Channing were eager to sit down with the new Titan, not just for what he's accomplished on the field but the odds he's beat off the field to be where he is today.
On this episode of the Pivot Podcast in partnership with Fanatics, the guys listen and learn more about the man behind the champion and how L'Jarius' path to the NFL was anything but easy. In an emotional conversation, Sneed reveals the motivation behind his gritty play, his relationship with his parents, near death experiences, the loss of his brother and how his life has transformed since his championship run in Kansas city and even more so after signing a four-year, $76.4 million deal this offseason. Never did Sneed believe as a young boy born in jail, with both his parents in and out of incarceration through his childhood, that he could go onto achieve the highest of dreams playing the game he loves and eventually changing his entire family generation and dynamic. Through loss and heartbreak, Sneed has developed a certain on-field instinct that makes him one of the most dynamic players in the game and through forgiveness, he's learned to appreciate the great moments and fulfill a promise to always take care of his mama.
Switching gears to the Xs and Os, Sneed was sad to leave his Chiefs teammates behind on an often underrated defense but looks forward to this fresh start with the Titans and isn't letting up on the gas after his back to back Super Bowl wins, he feels he is just getting started. The guys ask him about his shut down plays that have made him one of the best while Sneed gets honest about the Chiefs trade, the fiery competition between him and Ja'Marr Chase, Stefon Diggs, Tyreek Hill, the Zay Flowers play that sent his Chiefs team to the Super Bowl and even sharers his thoughts on the Taylor Swift takeover.
While Sneed may be a man of few words in the locker room, he leads through example and allows his play on the field to talk for him.

Mr. Sneed: Thank you more than I can say for sharing about your life and experiences today. This little old white lady spent 43 years as a teacher and principal working to build credibility with Black families in my schools. I was honored with stories about pain and aspirations. Those stories guided me and helped me shape some beliefs and teaching styles. Did I ever get all of my people where they should be? No. But at least a lot of people were uncomfortable enough to make some changes. We became better but I often think that much more was required of us.
I wish you and yours well. Your generation will continue to speak and to demand attention. I was present at the dawn of the public use of the internet. And now folks like you and the Pivot People have extraordinary access worldwide. Ideas that were once accepted because that’s just the way they “always” were don’t have the privilege of hiding in plain sight when you were coming up.
At almost 78 I’ll miss out on many changes to come but please know that I believe in you and am cheering you on.

It was Fred telling him that there are times he has got to say no to family and not feel guilty and how he stunted his brother’s growth by just giving to him. He needs Fred’s mentoring and emotional support on how to say no to family and friends and not feel guilty. Only people who been there truly understand.

I had the honor and privilege of meeting La'jarius Sneed in Kansas City one morning at the airport. We were in the elevator together, and I made the comment that the Chiefs could win another superbowl in 2024, his response was they could win the next 2. God bless you, Mr. Sneed I hate that you're no longer a chief, but I wish you the absolute best. You are a humble and down to earth person, please don't change. God bless you!

1984 lifelong chiefs fan here. I've got nothing but the utmost for Sneed. I love how physically he plays the cornerback position. There's maybe enough to count on 1 hand of these types of CBs left in the NFL. They've basically made it illegal, yet he found a way to play his game. It's a lost art. He's by far my all-time favorite corner back. It really hurt losing him in FA, but he deserves everything he gets! He's a humble beast. I'll definitely be watching the Titans this year, too. You all just gained a new fan. I'm a die-hard KC fan, but I'm also a die-hard Sneed fan. I wish you the best man in everything in life, man. May God continue to raise you up and keep you healthy! 🙏🏼

Damn Sneed I think I was going cry listening to this. You're one of my favorite Chiefs. I know things are going to go well for you in Tenn. Maybe we'll see you next season. Much love to you and your family.

Thank you for this episode! I didn't know much about the human side of L'Jarius just his football career because he is a quiet guy and seems pretty reserved. Man, what a man! I'm a huge Titans fan and so excited to have a guy like this, especially how he carries himself, on our team! That McNair jersey was slick too! I love the pivot, what a great show and great guys! Thank you God for this day! Thank you God for your grace in allowing us to be imperfect!

I'm a KC fan and I believe all KC fans are Sneed fans. LJ is such a fine football player you have to admire his skills and the way he plays. As great a player as he is LJ is a better person. Much love and respect LJ.

As a Bengals fan, I ride for my squad all day, every day. I've known since Chase came in the league that these two dont like each other when they get on the field. I gotta give him his flowers though. I dont know anyone who plays Chase as sticky as he has. It really made those Bengals Chiefs games so fun to watch. It's great to see who the players are off the field too. Respect to The Pivot

missing having the best CB room in the NFL, You and Mcduffie balled out so hard last year, won us the superbowl with that goalline fumble in the AFC Championship.

Glad LJ is finally getting some recognition! Chiefs fans been trying to tell y’all about him for years. Dude is an absolute beast. One of the few true traveling DBs in the league. Glad he got his bag!! Sucks he decided to finish his career in the basement of the AFC…
