i’ve hated tom brady for years, especially during his playing days. but my god, his career story is so inspiring to the point i genuinely respect him for his dedication.
Tom Brady wasn't a late bloomer. He was always superb. Drew Henson was just the best QB in his HS class and the Big Ten was the dominant college football conference of the 90s. Lloyd Carr handled the situation logically. Brady got himself drafted in the 6th round by not going to Cal and being a 3+ year starter because he was so competitive and wanted to go to a Top 5 team and beat out some of the best HS QBs on the depth chart. I respect the fire, but he made it harder on himself, even though playing in the Big Ten prepared him perfectly for going against NFL defenses.
My favorite part of this and I’ve watched this like 10 times. “You are our 199th pick”, “Yeah that’s right I’m the best choice this organization has ever made” -Tom
One of the few opposing QB's I admired highly. He never was "cocky" , he tried to instill confidence that a win was possible no matter what to his team and he may not have had the best arm, speed or build, but he had the mind to see, read and react. It's his lack of smugness and work ethic that everyone should strive to have.
Tom Brady Draft Report: Poor build, skinny, lacks great physical stature and strength, lacks mobility and ability to avoid the rush, lacks a really strong arm, can’t drive the ball downfield, does not throw a tight spiral, system-type player who can get exposed if forced to ad lib, gets knocked down easily. *7 Time Super Bowl Champion

@@muh.arhammuharramarif4808 Let's start with the basics. There are seven rounds in the NFL Draft; Round 1 is Thursday (April 25), Rounds 2-3 are Friday (April 26) and Rounds 4-7 are Saturday (April 27.) Every team is represented at the NFL Draft with differing amounts of selections with which to work. As a baseline, each of the 32 teams receives one pick in each of the seven rounds in the NFL Draft. In addition to those picks, the NFL months before the draft can assign as many as 32 compensatory picks at the end of the third through seventh rounds. All of these picks are eligible to be traded. Because some teams receive compensatory picks and others don't (more on this later), and because teams often package multiple draft picks in trades, one team might enter the NFL Draft with, say, 12 selections at its disposal, and another might enter the draft with only six. There you go...
Not sure why he was afraid of going undrafted. It's better to go undrafted and pick the best team to sign with than get drafted into an awful situation in the 5th, 6th or 7th round. Plenty of 5th, 6th, 7th round rookies get cut in their first training camp and preseason.
@@realniggashit3 Do you think one of the best teams would sign with Brady at that time, considering his position in the draft. Not to mention that the Patriots won the Super Bowl the following year, so they already had a very competitive team to go far in the season.
@@mateusbissani1917He obviously landed in a good situation with a good coach and veteran defense, but in general, it's better to go undrafted and pick where to go than get drafted in the late rounds. Your chances of making the roster frankly isn't any higher as a late round pick than an undrafted free agent. If he had gone undrafted, Brady would've been considered a priority UDFA with at least a few offers.
There isn’t. If there were, they would have found a way just like Tom. You think there is a scenario where Tom would not have found success? You know how RARE someone like Tom is? Trust me if there is another Tom we would know. They wouldn’t let themselves go unnoticed.

The NFL scouting departments and combine still do not get the QB position; the other positions as well, but especially the QB position. What set Tom Brady apart was a few things, but his most important attributes are how he reacts to stress and the quickness that he processes that said stress. Yes, it can most commonly be referred to as "fight- or -flight" response. The only guy that I can really see doing that in college this past year is Tua. I think Burrow will bust, I think Herbert will bust, I think Love will bust. I've not take the time to look at all the other guys, but as far as those guys Tua is the only guy that is high quality in that area. He is missing some of the other things that made Brady , Brady.. but Tua is the best of the top 5 quarterback prospects this year
@@scottrhoads1500 Yea, I know the numbers for him. It does not say everything though. Sometimes they allow pressure to get a quick pass out. @@smey02 most of those first picks were bound to make and win multiple Super Bowls. My point was that he was selected in the sixth round and has now won 7 more Super Bowls than anyone would expect a 6th round player to win
The fact that Brady could list EVERY QB selected before him and the rounds they were selected in shows his killer competitive instinct and his intellect. 🐐
Not just that, but it was probably the best QB of the class besides himself (Bulger) that he forgot about and left for last. I'm not entirely sure EXACTLY what it says about his competitive instinct, but it definitely says something.
This story just goes to show that most NFL coaches and scouts are idiots. Not because they couldn't predict that Brady would turn out to be an all time great -- nobody could. But because they pay more attention to a skills competition (aka "the combine") than performance in actual games. Just look at Mariucci talking about the combine like it's an end all be all. It makes zero sense: you've got 2 years of real life game data showing Brady performing at the highest level of college football doing things that no other QB did during that span, yet you disregard all that and instead fixate on the combine stats? You complain that Brady's coaches didn't "pound the table" for him, yet you didn't even bother to speak to his college coach (and if you had, you would have gotten much more valuable insight than anything you could glean from the combine). And so you go ahead and pick a guy from Hofstra because he runs faster and throws a better spiral. That's like picking a player based on who can do cooler ball tricks... Idiot!

-There are intangibles that cant be measured
-Believe in yourself even if no one else does
When all scouts care about is how fit a player *looks*
And be a homie for others like T Martin.
Intangibles can never be measured. That's why they are called intangibles.

Poor build, skinny, lacks great physical stature and strength, lacks mobility and ability to avoid the rush, lacks a really strong arm, can’t drive the ball downfield, does not throw a tight spiral, system-type player who can get exposed if forced to ad lib, gets knocked down easily.

How the draft works anyway?.

@@muh.arhammuharramarif4808
Let's start with the basics.
It’s crazy thinking there could have been more people like Tom that didn’t end up getting drafted or the chance to start

Everyone is aware that Jerry Rice used a sticky substance on his glove and in a interview about it he said, "Well I thought everyone used it."
Imagine if that freshman qb didn’t quit at Tom Brady’s highschool.
well brady wouldnt be here
@Nikolai Ninja i mean he said if he wouldnt get drafted he would be an insurence guy
He would have made it. Just like he got the starting position at Michigan.
He would have been a catcher in the MLB
@@luishuber9627 If he hadn't been drafted, he would have written letters, sent emails, or called GM's or coaches asking for a tryout. There weren't 62 great QB's in the NFL in 2000.
I couldn’t stand Tom Brady up until the Atlanta Super Bowl coming back from 28-3 to win, I started out that game wanting Atlanta to win the game but the game was becoming a blowout and found myself starting to cheer for the Patriots to make it a game and by the end I was blown away by Tom Brady bringing the team back to win the game I became a fan from that point forward and he is my favorite football player of all time and he’s the GOAT!

Crazy that this recap of greatness doesn't even include half the story of ultimate accomplishment. It was great living in the time of all the GOATS...Brady, Jordan, Gretzky.
"He wasn't the highest rated, he wasn't the best athlete, didn't have the best numbers, win a chip, didn't have the best mechanics or the strongest arm, and was selected till pick 199." Today he retires with 7 rings and is the unanimous goat of football.
I just knew people would comeback to watch this today.
Mhm
Wait one second now
He didn't even say he was retiring, that was just a rumor that surfaced for awhile.
Rumor* Lol
Dude won more Super Bowls than it took rounds for him to be selected
Right
Thats a weird Statement 😅 many Player have won more than rounds it took them to be selected
@@smey02 no players have been picked in the 6th round and managed to win more Super Bowls than that to my knowledge.
@@pythonl0rd584 no, but thats not want you said, even though I know what you meant.many have been picked 1st round and won more than 1 super bowl
TRUE
Not just that, but it was probably the best QB of the class besides himself (Bulger) that he forgot about and left for last.
I'm not entirely sure EXACTLY what it says about his competitive instinct, but it definitely says something.
proof that greatness comes from one's own drive and desire! Those considered the least will always be the Greatest!
49ers: Don't draft Brady
Brady: "And i took that personally"
He ad
Idiot!

Tom Brady’s mentality is what separates him from the others.

Once upon a time, I built a storage shed. It was huge, and I was told I had to move it thirty feet. It was totally impossible. So I put Susan Boyle on my Sony Walkman, and I slammed my shoulder into that huge , heavy shed. And it moved, ONE HALF INCH! And that is how a 67 year old man moved a 5 ton shed thirty feet over rocks and roots, uphill. One half inch at a time! And that is how Brady still wins so much!

He rattled off the names of those quarterbacks like they were a part of his family. Actually, they weren't family, but they were part of his fuel.
Btw, you don't have a heart if you can't feel what the guy was going through with his parents at minute 41:19.

Nice modest guy A legend
Gained a lot of respect for the man in that moment
Brady had that down to a mental checklist; heck, he may've committed it to paper. I thought how things went with him at Michigan (Drew Henson as The Golden Boy) helped fuel some more of that fire.
