Pretty cool trip! Getting to see lots of game and then finding a hidden cabin is pretty sweet. Glad you got to top it off with harvesting your bear😁

Thanks! All of the spots we used to hunt close to town are gated or blockaded so we had to find new area out of town. Always a gamble trying new areas, but it paid off and hopefully will be the gift that keeps on giving. The amount of sign around there tell me that it will! :)

      @@caddisguy that good news!
Gates? I thought you lived on the Mainland and didn't have this same problem that we have on the South Island.
Sometimes it leads you to more interesting places like this has 😁

Backcountry access is getting difficult on the mainland, particularly Region 2. Our old stomping grounds for bear and blacktails was gated in 2021. A generous buddy suggested an area for us in 2022. It was loaded with very large black bears. However it was gated (illegally according to the NRO which is still looking into it) a few months later.
We scouted a couple more places in 2022 that were promising for bear and blacktail. They were both gated this Spring, so we headed out to Region 3 and found some good idea.
It's nice to explore more and more, but can get a little exhausting and discouraging. As you probably agree, scouting and finding those great little tucked away and productive areas is one of the most time consuming aspects of hunting. Getting one or two gems shut down, no big deal, but when they get shut down as fast as you can find them, it's hard to keep up, but one thing for sure is we're never going to quit, because we're stubborn and we love it!! :)

@@caddisguy yeah, finding a spot and then having it shut down soon after sucks! I've had a number of those☹️
The good thing is that I like exploring so it gets me to discover new gems.
I'll keep at it and keep finding new places to explore and hunt.
Sounds like you've got the right attitude too. Just keep plugging away because you'll discover new things like awesome hunting areas and abandoned cabins 😁

LOL @ hunting new areas and finding abandoned cabins. I like your style!! Scouting for new spots IMHO does make a person a better hunter because you're usually looking for sign versus animals. We could tell this spot held quite a few bears and that is one thing I wished we had filmed. Every patch of grass for a few kms in any direction looked like it was freshly grazed by a week whacker.
