Facadh tusa riamh cailleach bheag le cliabh
Neo balach 'se ri tilleach as a bhuth
Latha fliuch neo fuar ged bhitheadh i reoite cruadh
Bith mi tilleadh gu mo thir aig am Bliadhn'Ur
Facadh tusa riamh cailleach bheag a sniomh
Neo balach 'g ith buntata leisg an rusg
Ma bios mise buan, fagaidh baile Chluaidh
Bith mi tilleadh gu mo thir aig am Bliadhn'Ur
Facadh tusa riamh cailleach bheag mas fior
Cur balach crosda tarsuinn air a gluin
Tilleadh mi le uaill gu m'eilean anns a chuan
Bith mi tilleadh gu mo thir aig am Bliadhn'Ur

A Reiteach nan dubhan air an sguth
Fagaidh Baile Ghuail airson Tir nan Cruach
Bith mi tilleadh gu mo thir aig am Bliadhn'Ur
Faca tusa riamh bodach le ceann liath
Toirt facal as an leabhar an ceann a bhuird
Mo bheannachd air an t-sluagh 'stric orra mo smuain
Bith mi tilleadh gu mo thir aig am Bliadhn'Ur
Faca tusa riamh bodach leabaidh chreadh
Neo cailleach deanamh marag choirc''s flur
Bith mi fheinn 's mo luaidh togail oirnn gu tuath
Bith mi tilleadh gu mo thir aig am Bliadhn'Ur
Bith mi tilleadh gu mo thir aig am Bliadhn'Ur

I love to hear Donnie singing. It takes me back to the times we have spent together, The ceilidhs, the games the wedding, and even the recording sessions.

I just listen to this track over and over... Donnie was just here in Colorado last month with "Men of Worth", but there was no way I could get down to the concert 200 miles away. Sigh... wish I could've been there to meet him again (met him once, eons ago, at the Longs Peak Games).

"Bith mi tilleadh gu mo thir aig am Bliadhn' Uir" (I'll be returning to my (home)land at New Year time) .I have that other song, which was composed ny Norman MacLean who was born of Uist parents. I don't have him singning it though, just Art :-)

Ok, right. Now that I *know* what that phrase should be, I can hear that it is. I suppose it's always that way with 'misheard' lyrics.
Love that grin at 1:25... I met him once years ago at the Longs Peak games, and he was just as charming then.

The song was composed by his mother and some of her songs were published in the Gaelic quarterly "Gairm" but I don't know if this was one of them. :-(

Just what you need when you are on the other side of the world, the memories come flooding in and you wonder why you ever left. Keep up the good work Uistman

@RKHageman Apparently he was called this at school because he had relatively large hands compared to other boys of his age. The picture on the cover of his first LP shows normally sized hands so I suppose the rest of his body caught up with them :-)

@Vinson37Me The Maxwells are a Lowland Family, not a Clan as such. Julie is from Uist, like myself. Ceilidh in the traditional Gaidhlig sense means a"visit" but in its English form it is used more of an organised entertainment event. Hogmany is not a Gaelic word.

Say, has anyone the words to this? I'd love to sing along, but I can't hear all of what he's saying.

@katemacleod1 -- Idle curiosity -- why is he called that? ((Donnie 'Large', that is). Apparently it's an *old* nickname as his first album refers to it...but I've never gotten why.

Melvorgazh Donnie comes from Ness, Isle of Lewis.

      @Melvorgazh 9 лет назад

Lewis?! There ain't W in Scottish place names. At least that I'm awear of.

    • @UISTMAN59
      @UISTMAN59  9 лет назад +3

Seriously, you have never heard of the Isle of Lewis? Its main town is Stornoway (did you notice the w there?) Places with a "W" are found all over Scotland. Glasgow, Wick, Poolewe, Wanlockhead, Motherwell, Wishaw come to mind quite easily ... it might be easier if you look up www.ukwebindex.co.uk/townandvillage/Scotland/W/ for a more complete list. You might be more aware then :)

There ain't W,Z,J,X in Scottish place names! Just like in Ireland. Same language rules :)
Look here, is a map of Scotland!
No wierd names like ye mentioned.

Oops! Sorry! Actually there are Vs and Ys, here but this is not a good map then, surely made by a Saxonman.
