The recording was from a series called "Tuath Cheol" i.e. "Country Music". There is anoth clip from the series in which Tom doesn't wear a hat, but there is a recording from Uist where he does have a hat, so it seems to me he was perfectly happy with the image. I would like one myself but my head is too big. :-/ It is probably no more incongruous than using a Yiddish word where "gimmick" would suffice :-) . Toilichte gun do chord e riut.
