  • This is from the 1995 video "The Irish Rovers - Alive and Well". The is the ONLY song I am EVER posting from this video, as it is still available through www.IrishRovers.info. This is my favorite song by Jimmy Ferguson and I think this is a great version. A tribute to "Big" Jimmy...you are sorely missed. The only bad part is that this was filmed after Will Millar left the band.
I have more information about the Irish Rovers at www.theballadeers.com

I’m a Scottish Protestant whilst my wife to be is a Catholic Derry girl. This song always makes us laugh as we joke that our kids may end up like the man in the song!

There are two kinds of people. The Irish and those of us who wish we were Irish.

My father was an America of English Protestant heritage and my mother was Irish Catholic American. We were brought up to not be prejudice against anyone. Love this song.

From Ulster myself, My granda was a Catholic and my gran a Protestant. Always nice to hear a song that's a bit of fun instead of hatred

If you're referring to the song it's simply this, Irish Catholic's color was green while the Protestant's was orange.

I wonder how many people realise that Jimmy Ferguson is wearing an orange and green shirt in this song. No one has ever mentioned it as far as I know.🤣

In 1967, my parents owned the Irish Rovers album. My mother explained to me what this song meant, I was 13 at the time. Now, as I listen to it with mature ears, I delight in the lyrics and humor of this song. I so wish I could have seen these adorable men perform in person.

I am neither orange nor green. I am an Argentine American who absolutely loves the Irish and their music. It's impossible for me to hear this song without dancing.

My father, son of Irish immigrants, would play his "The Irish Rovers" albums over and over again till his passing in 1992 ... now I find myself listening to The Irish Rovers, enjoying my Dad's spirit as I sit outside, back yard, looking over the tranquil scenery he enjoyed at the same home I now own ... FYI: As my father, I, too, am both Orange and the Green (love you, Mom!!)

I am 75yrs old, my Mum used to tell me of the old folks (early Australian settlers) in her family - the orange and the green. The Irish has never bred out of us.❤

My mother was a methodist. My grandfather surname Carrick traced back to Northern Ireland my father a product of French Catholics. This song always got me smiling both fathers didn’t attend my parents wedding.

I was 16 and working at a Dixie Lee store in Pembroke, Ontario Canada when who walks in just before closing time? These fine gentlemen! Well I was SO happy to see them and they sang for me, they made me laugh, teased the hell out of me because my lace slip was showing beneath my uniform hahha. Oh God love them. I'll never forget how special they made this Irish Canadian girl feel. Erin Go Bragh!
