Thanks so much Stephan. The winter certainly proves a challenge, but I think I do the best I can to deal with it. I am happy that we finally seem to be experiencing some Spring-link weather conditions, but Spring brings a host of other environmental challenges as well!
Very nice job. Wish I could make it to the meetup in Chicago. Maybe I can try and swing something. Would be nice to talk to a fellow "experienced" teacher that does this kind of stuff as a hobby and side "job".
We "teacher detailers" are a rare breed and it would be great to meet you. There is that Meet and Greet event on the 29th. I'm hoping some of my friends from that area will be able to make it. I am also hoping it will be nicer weather down there.
I know the battle and struggle you are facing! Having the same issue in Quebec City with my SQ5. Don't know how long it took to get it that dirty but in my area it usually take 2 to 3 days to get dirty like that. Usually go through pressure wash once a week. Ceramic coating does help quite a bit. but around mid mars it totally gone. Winter is over now, we should be able to keep the car clean for at least a week very soon.
My car became this dirty after two weeks of neglect. The roads were just sopping wet with the usual melted snow, gravel, mud and crud that comes with the weather this time of year. I am glad others can relate. The coatings definitely take a beating, but they do serve their purpose, just not for as long as they claim. We seem to be in Spring now, but the temperatures are still quite chilly. Soon the pollen will arrive! 🤧
Hi Rad! DIY Detail recommended I check your page out and it did not disappoint. Beautiful video! I did notice that you used both a pressure washer and a garden hose nozzle. Do you switch to the garden hose when you're doing the rinse at the end? Just interested in your techniques. Thank you!
@@HeavyPilot83 My friends at DIY Detail have been so supportive of me over the years. I’m so glad you took their advice and decided to check out my channel. Yes, I do use the garden hose at times after the pressure washer. There’s no scientific reason behind it, but it is just sometimes easier and it doesn’t produce humidity the way the pressure washer does. I only use it for rinsing after my hand wash. I also like watching the water dance on the coated paint. I hope that answers your question. I hope you’ll take time to peruse my other videos.
I appreciate that. This video has become popular, but I feel I have produced many videos that eclipse this one in terms of quality. I hope you will spend a bit of time checking out other videos on my channel. I take great pride in all of my videos.

I washed my car last night... driving to work I can see the road grime on the windshield... I live in Chicagoland land so we are still in the crap weather season
I think I am more relaxed when I am driving a dirty vehicle than a clean one. When the car is clean, it hurts when you get behind a car spraying dirt. So goes the battle...
I have a hard time believing your garage has ever been a mess, Rick! Congrats on the creator summit, well deserved, I'm sure you will have a great time in Romeoville! Wow, amazing transformation on the Audi, it's super satisfying when you get to wash off all the winter sludge; another great video, thanks for sharing and providing me with my Rad Garage fix. 🙂 Keep up the great work! Random question, do you do a pre-rinse of the entire vehicle, or go straight to the foam cannon?
Hey Clint, thanks for the well wishes. I haven't really felt the need to apply any pre-wash cleaner ahead of the foam. The foam eats the dirt off right before my eyes. If I were to use a pre-wash chemical, what would you suggest?
@@RADGarage Mostly just curious if you did a pre-rinse with either just the pressure washer alone or an APC-type pre-rinse. I don't use an APC pre-wash either (just a pressure washer rinse before the foam cannon), but I know some folks use a regular APC or something like diluted Super Clean as a pre-wash. If the foam does the job, I would stick with what works. Thanks for the information, and keep up the great content!
Personally, I love seeing that brown and white milky mixture of the dirt and foam shampoo as it hits the floor. It looks somewhat delicious and disgusting at the same time. I feel like the foam needs to show me what it is capable of without the benefit of a pressure rinse first!
I have been using Wet Coat quite a bit after each wash. I think it is the reason the wheels react so well to the pressure washer. Some people worry that grit is going to be driven into the wheels when I use the brush, but after the pressure wash, the nasty stuff is gone. That has something to do with the quality of the AR pressure washer, but I think the Wet Coat layer has something to do with it as well.
Nice content! Any reason that you dont finish the prewash stage before you go over the gaps/emblems etc with a brush. The soap is literally turning brown. Should just scratch the car alot
You're not the first one to express this concern. Let me assure you, the combination of quality soap, brush and technique makes this a safe process. It takes more than a soft brush carefully working quality soap into tight areas to swirl up paint. My car is over 5 years old and it is flawless. I think people drastically underestimate the durability of paint.
Hello! I noticed that in the first phase of washing you are already using brushes. Wouldn't it be better to do this after removing the dirt? After all, a lot of sand after winter.
Yeah, I can see how you would think that. I will say that with the amount of quality of foam, plus the quality of the brushes I use, I do not feel like any harm comes to surfaces I use this method on. Plus, these areas are not super sensitive to micro scratches because they are trim pieces. Thanks for the question.
How do you get the coating on your tailgate to last so long during winter? Washing every week? And topping? I'm getting ready to do my SQ5 and I'm ripping my hair out on which coating will be best for Midwest winters. One more question: how many times have you paint corrected and how many times have you polished your car? I want to keep my car for awhile like you. 😊
Don’t be deceived into thinking the coating is responsible for the water behaviour you see in this video. Most of the original coating had been degraded. What you are seeing is the effect of whatever spray sealant or “topper” I used during my last wash. This MOHS coating is over 2 years old and has taken a beating in that time. I recently polished off the remnants of that coating and reapplied Nano Resin Pro by Dr. Beasley’s. I’m hoping it will perform well in these unforgiving conditions. I have never had to correct the paint on my car. I’ve never had the need to. Just fine polishes. Check out my latest vid when you get the chance.
I don’t see the point in using the pressure washer since rinsing off the soap is so easy after a hand wash with just a regular rinse. Plus, it is faster and doesn’t steam up the garage the way the pressure washer does.
I think you may have even harsher road chemicals to deal with from what I hear from my Russian friends. A little MultiX could be just the trick. For me, the Lift was enough to get that very hard dirt off.
The streets are literally flowing with mud rivers. I can't believe what a sorry state this city is in. You don't see any cars that aren't absolutely destroyed. I did enjoy the one day I had a clean car. It is back to needing a wash. 🤦♂️
I think a pressure washer rinse is vital after the pre wash, but when I am rinsing away the soap after the hand wash, I find a hose rinse is all that is required. Plus, it requires less water and doesn’t steam up the garage as much as when I use the pressure washer.
Rick, as another member of the wintery north, and one that will be building a garage in the near future - curious, do you have a drain in yours? If not how do you handle water run off?
A few years ago, I had a channel drain and catch basin installed. Huge game changer for me. Some videos here: ruclips.net/p/PLBkcWYR7ZEzjEny1NY4J7cnhUgvkQAOOh
@@RADGarage Excellent, I'll check that out, and probably need to go deeper on my codes where I live. One other question if you have the time - if you were building a new garage today are there any key decisions you would make at the design stage to make your life easier than it is for you today (other than simply having more space)?

@@RADGarage and yet again, it’s in a weird way so satisfying to see it so perfectly clean, and go back out into the rain and snow. Haha

Thanks man. I always appreciate it when people compliment my video work. It means a lot.
Thanks a lot for the video. Staying rad for all time 👌🏻
Thanks for watching and I’m happy to hear you are staying RAD!
Exceptional job Rick. Glad to have you back and bringing us some great detailing to watch again 👍
Yes, with the days becoming warmer and longer, I am finding myself in the garage a bit more. I have some cool stuff on the docket for this summer so be sure to stay tuned!
Great wash and clean-up, Rick! It looks all dialed in and ready for another hammering lol.
And hammered it is...
Thanks for calming my mind, Rick. I am in 403 as well. Let's meet when you have a minute. Thanks!
For sure. I am always happy for visitors to pop by. The summer is the best time because that is when the garage is in pristine shape!
Great work as always Rick. Congrats on the forthcoming Meet and Greet 🙂
Thanks Nadine. It will be fun to hang out with some of my detailing idols.
Amazing transformation, so jazzed to see you going to Chicago. You’re gonna have a blast!
I just hope people like me. I can't have a repeat of Junior High.
I was enjoying the matte brown look!
I couldn't believe how bad the back was.
so satisfying to watch your videos!!!
Thanks Pierre! It is always nice to receive positive feedback from viewers. 🤘
@@RADGarage as a detailer myself, I haven't had the opportunity to work on a car for the past two years due to taking a career break for my health and well-being. Watching your work not only brings me satisfaction, but also motivates me to get back into the groove of things and approach it with renewed passion.
Thanks. I enjoy the process of washing my car. I am planning a more comprehensive detail in the coming weeks as we seem to finally be leaving winter weather in the rearview mirror here. These winter washes should be called "survival washes" but I am looking forward to really dedicating some time to the areas of this car that don't see regular cleaning during the winter. I hope you get some opportunity to get back in that groove of yours!
Love that audi color Rick...Great job and look forward to your summer jobs...
I just hope I won't be sequestered in the garage for the entire summer!

@RAD Garage You got that right! I don't think I've ever seen something that dirty🤣. Most definitely will be looking forward to when your or my way buddy that's for sure🤙✊️✊️
Well, I definitely re-evaluated Italian Alpine weather after seeing this. I thought my car was filthy, but I guess I don't even have a clue about how bad it can get. Awesome job!
I am proud to say that I experience some of the WOrST winter conditions on the planet. But, I know some European guys who have to deal with road tar the crews put down on the roads in the winter to protect the roads from the salt. Terrible stuff.
Damn the SQ5 was mega filthy can't imagine how you've endured looking at the Car😅 great job as always, now it looks like it should
It was tough. But, I knew it would clean up nice once I found the time. And, it did!
Hey Rick long time mate...loving the channel, long may your passion and knowledge continue to inspire us all.....I love your view on not using your rear wiper as it creates micro scratches on the glass....I have been doing this for years and it certainly is true.

Nicely done RAD! I didn't know your car had ppf. :D
Mine does too and its so satisfying to know that the winter won't be has harsh on the paint with gravel or other useless countermeasures during winter on the roads.
PPF is an absolute must in these parts. I am tempted to have my next vehicle completely wrapped in film for the reasons you listed. My car has the entire front end protected along with some other bits here and there.
Rick… how do you do it? How were you not at the Oscar’s picking up Best Picture? Genuinely, another work of Rad Garage awesomeness. Thanks so much Stephan. The winter certainly proves a challenge, but I think I do the best I can to deal with it. I am happy that we finally seem to be experiencing some Spring-link weather conditions, but Spring brings a host of other environmental challenges as well!

Well, I really appreciate that. I do believe the work I put into my productions is a slight cut above.
I can't wait to do the same to my Q5, it needs a good wash. Have a great one Rick 👍🏻
Thanks, you too!
Amazing, Regards from México 🇲🇽
Thanks for tuning in all the way from Mexico! I truly appreciate the fact that detailing is a topic that people enjoy from all over the world.
I can picture you driving around thinking "oh no, it's going to be reaaaally dirty" with a satisfied smirk on your face.
Let's just say, I wasn't afraid to hit every puddle I came across!
@18:30 what a crazy GLOSS Imagine how crazy it looks in real life
It amazes me how good the paint still looks after so many winters and over 110K kms.
You the best!!
I appreciate that. This video has become popular, but I feel I have produced many videos that eclipse this one in terms of quality. I hope you will spend a bit of time checking out other videos on my channel. I take great pride in all of my videos.
I’m surprised your subscriber count is not jumping Rick!! Another great production as always
Well, a lot of that has to so with the infrequency of my uploads, but I am happy to say this video seems to be attracting a few new subs! A very successful RUclips friend of mine told me a while back, that people often need a little push to smash that subscribe button so I have been doing that a bit more in my videos. I hate to have to do it, but it really does seem to make a difference.
@@RADGarage it’ll be hard for you to be able to upload frequently due to your full time teaching work, but keep smashing out the quality contents 💪

6:35 isn't it safer to rinse the wheel first before going in with a wheel brush, to avoid scratches?
With the right wheel cleaner and brush, I feel confident that things will work out.
Hi Rick !

The size of your audience does not really matter I would like to say because the content your propose each time is so awesome.

@@RADGarage Absolutely agree! And judging by the results, I'd say your system works pretty well!
Thanks Rick! Work has been hectic and I really needed this. Very satisfying, How did you like Wet Coat on your wheels?
I have been using Wet Coat quite a bit after each wash. I think it is the reason the wheels react so well to the pressure washer. Some people worry that grit is going to be driven into the wheels when I use the brush, but after the pressure wash, the nasty stuff is gone. That has something to do with the quality of the AR pressure washer, but I think the Wet Coat layer has something to do with it as well.
Just returned from 2 weeks in California. A car with a plate RADGUY caught my eye, while in traffic. 👍🇨🇦
I like this guy!
@@RADGarageIn general European cars have harder paint, it’s much easier to scratch a softer paint than a hard paint.
Great video! Love how you show all the products you use. Question though, was this car ever ceramic coated?
Yes, the remains of a 2-year-old coat of Gyeon MOHS is all that’s left on my car. I’m going to be redoing it in the Spring.
18:56 - oh yes we know ! Greetings from Poland !
Those who don't know will never know the struggle. 💪
Bombdiggity. It slaps. 😂
Like the kids say...
Another typical RAD video - amazing.
Rick - what ratio of Adams tyre and Wheel cleaner did you use?
I don’t usually dilute the Adam’s stuff. Straight out of the jug!
Thanks Rick!!!!
just out of curiosity, why do you rinse the hand wash off with a green hose and not the pressure washer?
I don’t see the point in using the pressure washer since rinsing off the soap is so easy after a hand wash with just a regular rinse. Plus, it is faster and doesn’t steam up the garage the way the pressure washer does.
Hello👋🏻 from Russia🇷🇺. Does carpro lift cope in winter on its own or should I add carpro multiX to it?🤔
I think you may have even harsher road chemicals to deal with from what I hear from my Russian friends. A little MultiX could be just the trick. For me, the Lift was enough to get that very hard dirt off.
Here for The Rad stayed for the Garage 🧼🇺🇸🇨🇦
Thanks bro!
Disaster for you is a little dusty for the average car owner. That looked like you drove through a mud pit!! Awesome results.
The streets are literally flowing with mud rivers. I can't believe what a sorry state this city is in. You don't see any cars that aren't absolutely destroyed. I did enjoy the one day I had a clean car. It is back to needing a wash. 🤦♂️
No Matt from obsessed garage 😮
Matt is in a league of his own.
What would be the trick to get my IK foam to have the same bubble for the tire and wheel
I just swapped out the tip from one of the foaming sprayers on to the non-foaming 1.5 L Alkaline continuous sprayer.
@@RADGarage thanks I would definitely try that
Rick, why do you rinse with hose and not pressure washer?
Adding drains in newly constructed garages is becoming very tricky with the City tightening codes.
@@RADGarage Excellent, I'll check that out, and probably need to go deeper on my codes where I live. One other question if you have the time - if you were building a new garage today are there any key decisions you would make at the design stage to make your life easier than it is for you today (other than simply having more space)?
