I saw Billy in Lexington Kentucky about 85 or 86 when Ratt came out with round and round they Opened for Billy And after their set they came back set down on the ground to the side of the stage and watched Billy Play.. Nothing but Respect for a rock legend when you got 10 good hits you’ve reached that statics
This live version has always been better than the studio cut. I remember ditching school to watch MTV and this would come on often. He was so good in concert! Would love to see him live again!
I was lucky enough to be able to play this LP during my first job as a radio deejay back in the early 80s! Those were the days of GREAT MUSIC! Kids these days have no clue what real, raw rock 'n roll was really like! This was the SHIT!
I agree hirskdunbi I listen to Billy Squier everyday. I love this song since first time hearing it. I've seen him in concert many times so damn talented .
This was the original version played on MTV ,83 Of course when it was Music Television, I do not give a flying fuck about all of the bullshit comments about Billy.. I know one thing ,This song came out as I was getting divorced from my first love,,it was brutal ,,then there was this ,for the first time in my life i acknowledged same painful shit put in a song.. Thank you Mr. Squier and all you have given to the world.
Brian Penick , holy cow. I ran into my first “runner” today at a funeral of all places. We were both pleasant but wow. I bout’ threw up on the way home. The scars are still there.
Great singer/songwriter from the late 70's who made it big in the 80's and was then run off by the corporates who put him there in the first place. I was lucky to have seen him several times. His songs were the background music of my youth.
This song makes me miss my youth! I was SO in love with Billy in high school! My first concert without parental units present haha Still love Billy.............
Never seen Squier in concert but I remember this video back in the day; my favorite song he did, but this version. Was the face of early 80's rock; little androgynous, sorta simple tunes, but great music without a deeper meaning or agenda. I wish we were back in that scene, just sing a damn song! Dont need to hear what you think about the suffering people of Kampuchea or the plight of a rain forest. Squier knew how to be a proper rock and roll star in his day. Thanks for the share! - Rob
Been a fan since I saw him in the 80's, he's 1 of the few artists who's 'live' versions are as good as studio. Back then, they actually played and sang on stage! Love this song, thanks zinfanus!!
"Video killed the radio star" Man, Billy was my favorite artist when I was a kid,I still love his music now more than ever. I'd love to see him play live one more time or even a new album.
Every comment I've read was dead on. I listen to Billy Squier everyday . This is my favorite song to listen to. Yes the raw talent pure emotion . This is truly rock-'n'-roll at it's best. Billy Squier has it all. Has kept his talent and the rights to it. The comment about corporate dead on thank you. Peace ✌️
I remember dancing in the rock bars/clubs in 83/84 to Squire. When is songs came on, girls always wanted to dance! Squire was and is today one of the best.
I say the line "I need to listen to my advice The aggravation ain't worth the price.." So often, I'm quoted for it. When I am. I'm like nope.. "that's the only BS I'll ever happily listen to.. BILLY SQUIER." if they say who's that. I make them listen.. ...and I never play "the stroke." It's a shame that's popular. He was SUCH AN INCREDIBLE WRITER/SINGER/MUSICIAN. If you read this, Mr Squier. Thanks for the music.
I was a fan of Billy Squier before he was big and got tickets to see him at the Boston garden he was the backup band for some band called Queen that i had not heard of.After Billy finished we stayed to see if the next band was any good. They started off with Dragon attack and i lost my mind they finished with Bohemian rhapsody. Thank god i bought those $8:50 tickets.
I listen to Billy Squire everyday. He has truly been blessed with so much talent. He deserves to be in the Rock-'n'-roll Hall of Fame. What the industry did to Mr Squire is sickening what's even worse large amount of the public bought into it. I didn't.
someone needs make a doc about his career and the injustice that happened to him. im sure if it was on netflix this younger generation that doesnt know the story would send billys music backup the charts
Since I was in HS, I was hooked on the live version of this song. I couldn't listen to the studio version anymore. Still can't. Trying to find this live version on MP3.
Those were the best days of my teen years.... so fortunate to have grown up during 80's music scene... guitar still rules... F acutune modern garbage zero talent nowadays 200%... hello music producers
Great song. This was filmed at cobo hall 1982. Now if Billy could only go back and have a do over on the "Rock Me Tonight" video he'd have a much longer career
that video didnt hurt him. the lack of commercialy viable songs did. if he had written more hit songs, it that video would be as forgotten as all michael jacksons little boy sleepovers by people that like the music
yeah but he came back in 89 with 'Dont say you love me' from the hear and now CD. Awesome album. He toured with john sykes' blue murder opening up. Damn what a show and double bill.
It is hard to believe that one video Rock Me Tonite on MTV was a career killer. I think he could of made a comeback if he really wanted to. Billy is a true rock star and he made a great contribution to rock and roll.
Thanks for sharin' I love this song great video...great memories!!! ROCK ON!!! Jade, dancin' & prancin' & rockin' in bright fields in flight o fancy!!!
Where?? I saw that he did a private benefit show a couple years ago and that's it, he's pretty private guy it seems, if he toured I'm pretty sure I'd know about it.
Such a great groove, with thoughtful, heartfelt lyrics 😎❤️! Did Billy ever do a purely acoustic version of “She’s a Runner”? I love the chiming guitar, here, but it would be even more fantastic to hear it “stripped”, with just an acoustic guitar 🤩!
great writer, great voice, and personally i always liked his guitar playing..rough at times...and sometimes thats the way it should be.. not flashy but definately tasty
I saw Billy in Lexington Kentucky about 85 or 86 when Ratt came out with round and round they Opened for Billy And after their set they came back set down on the ground to the side of the stage and watched Billy Play.. Saw that tour, too!
I saw the same tour
I saw the same concert 1985 I think it was when concerts were 20 dollars each
In New Jersey or New York City
B 85
This guy really knew how to play guitar and write music. He was not a one-hit wonder and was truly underrated.
Way underrated
Billy Squire deserves to be in the Rock-'n'-roll Hall of Fame. Pure talent
@@gretchengoulet9109 a yup. An easy call too. Hardly controversial. HOF career.
This is one of the best songs of that generation - it’s got emotion in all the right places. One of the reasons rock music is so dear to me.
Billy said in an interview, he didn't write this about a girlfriend, But I Don't believe him. Ha

I am this generation
Definitely one of the best songs of the era. I had forgotten all about it until it showed up on RUclips. 🤘🤙👍
When the singer sounds the same live as they do recorded, that is talent.
Especially when they have to hit those kinds of notes.
First concert ever!
Fo REAL
@@mikebalduzzi5308 Mine too, Billy Squier and Def Leppard, Meadowlands, NJ
Amen-that means perfection..Ozzy was the worse live as matching studioand Krokus was one of the best.
Some songs just don't lose the magic. Billy where the hell are you? We need you boy!
He still tours.
This live version has always been better than the studio cut. I remember ditching school to watch MTV and this would come on often. He was so good in concert! Would love to see him live again!
At least we had our time. It seems like we live in a hand me down Generation. LONG LIVE THE 80S!!!!!
One of my favorite songs. The live version has a lot of heart.
Yep. Right from his soul to mine
I was lucky enough to be able to play this LP during my first job as a radio deejay back in the early 80s! Those were the days of GREAT MUSIC! Kids these days have no clue what real, raw rock 'n roll was really like! This was the SHIT!

I think his “gay” music video was perfectly fine (I’m a straight guy). Ahead of its time was the main issue.
Best Billy Squier song EVER! Back in the day when keyboardist looked cool with keys on front and back of them.
Great singer/songwriter from the late 70's who made it big in the 80's and was then run off by the corporates who put him there in the first place. I was lucky to have seen him several times. His songs were the background music of my youth.
You nailed it Mike !! Thank you
I agree 💯 Mike
Billy Squier deserves to be in the Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame
Total confidence in his band. I love that.
“One of us will never know what you see”
I love that line.
Saw the Emotions in Motion tour. He opened for Queen in 1982 at The Boston Garden. Best concert I’ve ever been to, getting to see Freddie!
I mean, this is glorious. An incredible song, and it may not get more charismatic than Alan St. John on keys
Still love this under rated Rock star
E too alwa
He is most definitely a rock Star. The emotions he shows with ALL his talent is truly a natural gift
This song makes me miss my youth! I was SO in love with Billy in high school! My first concert without parental units present haha Still love Billy.............
EXPLAIN,S HOW I FEEL NOW....ROCKON,,,B...
Younger days oh yes....
Billy was my second major act concert, April Wine being first. The 70's and 80's were a great time to be young.
Saw him twice back in the day. Opening for Queen and then Def Leppard opening for him
I have this show on VHS... Nice to see a clean version 💚 Great song... Lyrics make more sense now 🤕
Squire was the sh*t back in the early 80's!
So underrated great talent!!!
Back when music still meant something real. Real Talent. No Computers. No Bullshit just real deal pure 💯 % Talent.
Billy is quite a musician and wordsmith!
So underrated! True talent!

billys lyrics are actually pretty deep and sophisticated compared to a lot of other bands/ solo artists of the time
Been a fan since I saw him in the 80's, he's 1 of the few artists who's 'live' versions are as good as studio. Back then, they actually played and sang on stage! Love this song, thanks zinfanus!!
Long time Billy Squier fan... Rock n roll at its purest!!!!
It was said he is a "mediocre guitarist". I loved my album "DON'T SAY NO"!
"Video killed the radio star"

This live performance rocks!
IMO, this is the better than the studio recording.
by far!
I remember dancing in the rock bars/clubs in 83/84 to Squire. When is songs came on, girls always wanted to dance! Squire was and is today one of the best.
one of the best songs ever made
That’s some pretty amazing sound for a live performance.
This guys moment was fleeting but I’ll always love his stuff. An actual singer, songwriter and musician!
Billy is the epitome of COOL...
I say the line

One of his best and he has so many classics!!
Love this. One of the most melodic tracks on that album.
My first rock concert was Billy Squier. Def Leppard opened. I haven't heard this song in forever. Great great tune.

Still a damn good song! Its actually better live
I was sorry to see his career cut short as it was. I liked all the songs he put out.
Great song
Great song. This was filmed at cobo hall 1982. Now if Billy could only go back and have a do over on the "Rock Me Tonight" video he'd have a much longer career
At this point, I would just like another good 80's era live album or two released.
that video didnt hurt him. the lack of commercialy viable songs did. if he had written more hit songs, it that video would be as forgotten as all michael jacksons little boy sleepovers by people that like the music
Uh yea that video did hurt Billy. Their is a RUclips video where he talks about it. His career crashed overnight, literally.
yeah but he came back in 89 with 'Dont say you love me' from the hear and now CD. Awesome album. He toured with john sykes' blue murder opening up. Damn what a show and double bill.
yeah he had that jim steinman produce that album. ughh. Shouldve stayed with Mack one more time.
Billy is the best!!!!! Rock on!!!
This is his best song period
I was at this show. Nazareth opened. Cobo Hall in Detroit!! December, 1982. I'm really not THAT old, just was a kid when I saw him
