Lyrics:
I've been around for you
I've been up and down for you
But I just can't get any relief
I've swallowed my pride for you
I've lived and lied for you
But you still make me feel like a thief
You got me stealin' your love away
'Cause you never give it
Peeling the years away
And we can't relive it
I make you laugh
And you make me cry
I believe it's time for me to fly
#REOSpeedwagon #TimeForMeToFly #Rock
Reminds me of when I broke up with my fiancé way back in 1984 - this song said it all
Dude, This song had been out for years already, and I never really paid attention to it... It wasn't until 1996, when I was tired of all the pain of trying to hang on to my marriage... I was @ work with a moving crew in a truck, and this song came on the radio... It felt like every fucking word Kevin was singing match exactly how I felt... I actually feel a debt of gratitude to REO for helping me see that it was "Time for Me to Fly" !!!!!!
OMG Wolf-Man Jack and REO...be still my heart yall!
WE GREW UP IN BEST ERA OF ROCK...SO LUCKY
@johnrencheck2283 Ab so freaking lutely
GARY DEAN RICHRAFTH.rocked the world and saved the 80's with these boys, they rocked and made the nights go better, rip GARY
Who is the lead singer on this song?
Kevin Cronin
Gary is my fav guitarist ever. More than Jimmy Page, Hendrix, you name it. He has a great sense of melody and feel!
@@Nunya.Bidness seriously,wasn't he something,miss those notes
The good old days when music was music
My father passed away and I found out today. This was his favorite song. Will be playing it loudly for him graveside. He was old school and died on his own terms. He built a table a couple years ago and carved speedwagon lyrics into with his knife. I’ll miss my best friend
🕊️💗🙏💗🕊️
I'm so very sorry for your loss 🙏🕊️🙏
I'll be praying for you and your family 🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️
Sorry for your lost may He RIP.. 😢😢😢😢❤
I am very sorry for your loss. Your Dad had great taste in music. He’s singing this now!
So sorry for your loss bro 😢😢
So sorry for loss
Man I'll tell you...Kevin Cronin is one of the most underrated voices of rock and roll. He's a national treasure.
I look at all the list and he’s never in there .. rigged !
Agreed! His vocal range is phenomenal!
I agree Kevin is underrated. In general REO isn’t given the credit they’re due. It didn’t get any bigger than these guys at the height of their career. Fantastic band.
So Fnnnnn, True

This song went through my head a thousand time when I ended a relationship
I mean, these were actual musicians that played together live and sounded phenomenal. Reo Speedwagon is one of the best bands of all time.
I worked their show at Piere's in Fort Wayne as the liaison. They were freaking hysterical I have all kinds of memorbilia❤😂
Criminally under rated
Yet no rock and roll hall of fame smh
Agree 100% saw them many times in the 1970's and 1980's. ❤❤
My fav REO tune. Back when musicians had to have talent. No autotune, no gimmicks. Just pure talent.
Hello Teresa.. how are you doing?
@@michaelsmith_32329_ who's Teresa?
Great song!!!
Compared to any other Artist they got played alot on MTV this just one of them in the pure rare gems of others also even Reo rare stuff is superb to their overplayed jubebox same songs u get sick of
Riding the storm our
Is a nice hot 🔥 number too. Especially live in the past.
"I've had enough of the falseness of a worn out relation, enough of the jealousy and intoleration, I make you laugh, and you make me cry. I believe it's time for me to fly." Goddamn, that's all time best songwriting.
It’s amazing
Greatness !
Wonderful
I believe it was the song, "Roll with the Changes", that first caught my attention with REO. I thought, damn. Those white boys can write.
And we can't relive it!
My 24 year old son is a Commercial Pilot...he has worked so hard and is so young...he plays this song before he takes off......so proud of him...
Thats awesome. My cousin flys from orlando to Amsterdam and back.Repeat process. He also was part of the first sortis who attacked Baghdad in DESERT STORM. TODAY, HE just has that 1 route. The $$ is pretty good too!
Dude that’s so freaking cool.
This imo is one of the best songs for breaking up with someone that is just taking you for granted. The words are perfect.
This song is really great, It makes u ask ur self questions, when u feel taken for granted. I have felt this way a few times, and we broke up. The last breakup, was a 20 year marriage.
BUT LISTEN TO THE ROCK, OMGOSH!!!!!! THEY ARE AWESOME, RIGHT IN THERE WITH THEIR MUSICAL TALENT, VOCAL TALENT. AMAZING. REO, IS THE MASTERPIECE... ROCK ON !!!!😂😊
There is a song by Tony Bennett.
The good life (I wanna be around).
If you do karaoke and she's in the audience, it's the perfect song!
Get it, kid
Yes indeed and that is precisely what I did to this song in 1981 - she was my first love but this is exactly what she was doing, taking us for granted! We had broken up and gotten back together and broken up and I was done and this song came on... and I said this sums up what I need to do!
I get it, sweetheart..I am sorry. Somehow this effects and affects our view of the proceeding interactions with the world. God Bless, kid, that could not have been easy to relive ❤😂😂😂😮
.
Greatest break up 🎵 song!
Who's just to listen to some good rock and roll? 😆
2025 and still fabulous
This song is awsome my mom loved this song..god rest her soul.. mom this ones for u mis u lov u
This is how I'm bringing in 2025 listening to 80's rock and roll. Hands down the BEST era to be a teenager!
Pretty much. The album came out in 1978 and it has stood the test of time. This is hard rock at its finest.
Ohh I was 17 in “79~80, I caught them many times @ The Providence Civic Center, RI🎵❤️🎶😎
My very first concert was REO Speedwagon, 1980, New Orleans Super Dome. This brings back so many amazing memories, what I wouldn't give to be 16 years old again.
Boy, do I understand! I was 17 in 1980. It’s amazing how fast the years fly by.
It was a “Day of Rock n Roll”, so many great bands in one day, and the super dome was Like a big community, so much fun✌🏽
@@zacatecas2002 I saw them when they were starting out on the college circuit in the midwest at the Red Lion Inn in Champaign and Bloomington IL in the 70's..... Rock on REO!!!!
First concert ever went to when I was 14 years old my uncle's and my cousins snuck me out to see Alabama the second concert I saw was REO
I just turned 18 in 1972 and they opened for Nugent in a small midwestern towns movie theatre.
Kevin Cronin's voice is pure gold! What a great band!!
Interesting guitar tuning.

I feel the background singers bring so much to this song.
Agreed!

I have seen a lot of bands live and I can honestly say that reo is one of a very few that sound just as good live as they do on albums.
Hello Mary.. how are you doing?

OMG, The Midnight Special. So many great memories
Gary Richrath would have turned 73 today.
Gary Dean Richrath October 18, 1949 Peoria, Illinois - September 13, 2015
Gary was originally a sax player. And self taught himself on the guitar..
I'm glad he did that.. Rock In Peace Gary..
Still have the album 😊. 67 years old now and just sold my house. Moving to France, 'time for me to fly, set myself free...'
66 years old and I’m jealous ! From one Terry to another Terry , wanna take me with you ?
Hell Yes !!! Hope it has worked our for you !
IMO, this is one of the most underrated songs of the 80's.
It came out in the 70s
and isn’t underrated.
The 70’s and 80’s CLEARLY had the best music.
Amen!
We was cool at one time until we had kids.
Ohhh yeah... It's 4th of July, 2024 , great then.. great now....
You are so correct !!!
ABSOLUTELY!!!
I was around long before there was a Gen X,Y,Z, whatever...
I was there for the ORIGINAL song.
Gen x is the best. ❤

I'm 26yrs old and love this band
Very coo, Cale! You have good taste.. and this is just good, good stuff! The good stuff never dies.
Excellent ! Keep looking around this time period and you’ll find some more greats ! You won’t be disappointed , guaranteed .
Was watching these guys in concert at the fair and my boyfriend took another woman's phone number so when they played this song, it was so fitting.
Hope you dumped him
HE HAD THE MOST BEAUTIFUL HAIR BACK THEN. I have seen them 114 times in concert since 1974, after I graduated High School. Yeah, I'm an oldie, but still listen to Classic Rock and will til' the end.
😂
These guys were great every concert in Michigan I saw
Wow!!
Little did I know I should have listened carefully & did what they sang about as it's been the story of my life. I'll be 55 in six weeks, never been married or had kids. Not only is this a great song but great advice.
To anyone reading this if your having some problems in a relationship, don't only enjoy this epic tune but actually listen to the words!!!! Woulda saved me so much heartache & $$$$ !!!
I agree. I am 55 and I put up with him for 36 years. Cheating, lying and hurting me beyond realms. Good Riddance.

This song came on the radio the day my Native American dad died. That day I saw a eagle fly. Dad I hope you are happy in the land of the Light of your ancestors in the sky world 🌎 We' De Ya Ho.

Gary Richrath and Kevin Cronin what an amazing song writing team plus strong vocals with the entire band, and once again white guy rock swagger with zero autotune and digital sound manipulating. Midnight Special was performance and no do overs
These are the last words my little sister said before she died and flew away to heaven.

Awesome song for yesteryear back when music was genuine and you could relate too! Just another KID from the best decade the awesome 80’s 🐐here in 2023
The most beautiful song REO ever wrote, this song is a Masterpiece.
Agree
Must Agree!
Fuck yeah they were famous at juarez /el paso Texas area I was 16 and I liked it now I’m 53 and still listen to them
One of the best songs Kevin Cronin ever wrote...and it took 10 years to finish it!
Such a masterpiece. Back when bands actually cared about the music. But the best part about music back then is the fact that you could understand every word they say. I'm 52 now and not a day goes by that I don't think about how nice it would be to go back to these days.
Thank You to Netflix's greatest show ever "Ozark" 😍for introducing me to this song. I love this song.
how cool, yeah this was a real #1 break up song, and just a good sounding tune when none of that was going on.
Heard it first on Ozark the series
@@anthonyporter9978 same here, I love the show ☺️
Great show. On season 3 episode 6 now.
Do a high percentage of dentist like REO? I'm just taking my cues off of the OZARK series. Also something I've been preaching since the left wing has taken over all of the media outlets, news outlets, Hollywood, Rap music production, inter-racial pornography productions is just a simple little request by me to please warn me when watching a movie if their is a surprising and disturbing gay sex scene about to come out of nowhere like in Ozark. So distasteful and not necessarily. Completely causes severe nausea and vomiting. I'm sorry
This is as good as it gets. Perfect.
I found an incredible comfort in this song, in a time long ago I was living the words. REO got me got me through that awful experience and ultimately gave me the courage to end it. I will never forget that all these years later and still to this day, I considerer this song one of the greatest ever.
Same here, song got me through bad times
You listen to this band and it just blows you away on how good they are!! song after song done by expert musicians . Every time I need a shot of good rock , REO always gives me what I need and more!!!!!!!!!!
Exactly
Best part is it 100% live
Ditto !!!
Yeah they where passed by
My entire heart goes out to anyone listening to this beautiful song because you relate to it....im sorry, things will get better, trust god, he won't ever leave you, his plan for you is greater then what youve lost, you have to believe that, use the pain as fuel to push you further then you ever thought you could go. Your best revenge is your success!!!!....there not much that cuts deeper then knowing the one you love doesn't love you back...letting go is hard..saying goodbye is hard
Not that it matters too much, but that's one unusual way of playing the guitar... :)
Lets take notice--- totally LIVE... No lip sync, backing album track! Incredible raw rock
Being from the Midwest (the Illinois side of St.Louis), fortunate to have seen REO 18 times. You ALWAYS get what you paid for with this band.
They absolutely do not disappoint!!!!!!
I've got to meet them, and once on my birthday w/ autograph CD.
I'm currently making my new song lists. Tryin to just pick 3 from each band/artists. NOT WITH REO!!!
1)Back on the road again
2)Don't Let Him Go
3)Only the Strong Survive
4)Keep Pushin'
5)Time for Me to Fly
6)Wish You Were Here
7)Say You Love Me
So far, I've only just started!!!😜🤪😁😊😁😄😃😀
I saw REO Speedwagon at Illinois Wesleyan University in 1969 or 70 when they were a local band, and before they became a national success. You could tell even then that they were destined for greatness.
James Morrell Apparently that's how they got their recording contract with EPIC. They saw them playing live and they were so good and the audience loved them. It was raining and everyone stayed out in the rain to watch them.
Coming out of Drug addiction of many years a Friend of mine that was letting me live with her and she played this song 1st time I'd ever heard it it made so much seance to me and perfectly line up with what God was saying to me my spiritual fight I couldn't start to tell this man Don Frandcisco how his song blessed me I'm trying to learn to play music now and all my life I've had reocuring dreams at night of playing musical inst.and I bought a guitar recently and I view if I'm blessed to play I will play for my Savior Thank u so so much sober love in living in KY.

REO SPEEDWAGON is the hardest working rock band I history. Simple songs with highly talented players. The old 3 chords and the truth.
As I am partial to REO because they are still my favorite band, they need to be in the Rock N Roll hall of fame, some of the other bands havent even made an impact on the industry the way REO has. GET THEM IN.

YA GODAMN RIGHT!!!!!!!!
THAT´S RIGHT MY FRIEND I´M ABSOLUTELY AGREE WITH YOU
You are absolutely right!!!!
Not to be argumentative.. b'c I agree with you about today's music sucking!! It sucks. So.... so bad. But it isn't a dearth of talent. The talent is everywhere. It's the garbage-dump crap music that we are programming the youngsters with now, and the garbage that main-stream media and society is pushing now. The younger ones don't have a clue about how it used to be - and how we waited for this incredible music to come out. Man... we loved it. We lived it. It's so sad now, to see where it has all gone. I hope the good stuff will come back. REO was, and still is, such an awesome band, with great songs that live forever!
