I'm sorry that your heart is feeling broken. I feel for you. I don't know what it is to be 70 years old, but I do know that your life is only over when you quit. You've had a lifetime of wonderful (and some not so wonderful) moments. Some are ahead of you. Remember how it was when you were 17, or 20, or 25, or whenever, and use that confidence to get what you want. It's only over when you quit.
So sorry for the lonely broken heart. My own has felt the same before. My solace comes when I look for someone even more broken, lonely, and in need of a friend than myself and reach out to help them. Hope it helps🥰
@@missya7394 , Thank you, MissyA. I do appreciate it. My love passed away, after being sick for a year. I assumed he had papers written up,but he didn’t. His son is very nasty, so he was next of kin and took over everything. Gene was 78, but I never thought he would pass away. We had bought a Cadillac and he paid cash for it. I got cancer 5 years ago, and I took my name off. Of course, we never thought to put my name back on. His son said I had lifetime rights to live at the house. He also said he was giving me the car. His father would want that. One day there was a knock at the door, his mother had a new title to the car because he had signed it over to her. I had to turn over the keys. Gene would never have wanted her to have the car. After he did that, I decided I had better move. He had control of the house too. I paid half on the funeral, but he still wanted money for all kinds of things. I had to leave our home and beautiful flowers and our big yard. Then 6 months later my sister passed away. I am pulling myself together, but some days are hard. Life is hard, but family is the main thing. I have a wonderful son and daughter. I can always depend on them. It is hard to lose everything at my age. I will prevail! Sorry but it may help for you to know the story.

Why did this kind of melodic rock go out of fashion?? It’s still a brilliant song 40 years later! Today’s pop/rock music is missing something…… melody 🎶! Brings back some great memories from 84/85! ❤
I'm 37 and just today I asked myself the same question. I wish I grew up in the 80's like you. It must have been a unique and amazing time, at least musically anyway.
it's not out of fashion, the young generation of artist and listeners don't always understand music with soul as opposed to music to just make money and a song with a "hook", no disrespect, but it was different then, I'm 58 so coming of age in the 70's and 80's and a teen and young man music like this made sense
The vocals are clear and expressive, and the melodies are beautiful, vibrant, and exhilarating. I think it’s a timeless masterpiece, hard to believe that it was created about 39 years ago.
Skating rink lock-ins were great. My brother is 5 years older so he went to ‘party.’ I was cute, baseball build dimples, blue eyes dark blonde hair with my brother helping me dress ‘cool.’ First time I was sexually assaulted. An older girl at least taller. She chased me and grabbed my ass. I asked my brother if he knew her, if he asked her to do it. He said no. She had nails and one grab dug into my cheeks. I was fast so I scared away from her then since a rink is an oval, running away worked only until she stopped. Then I raced into the boys’ bathroom to check my ass. Several scratches, blood. I lived in a suburb of Chicago so there was security. I asked my brother if he could tell her to stop. He told me he had company and told me to wait or talk security. I asked “where, the booth is empty?” “He pointed down at the table and gave me a ‘blowjob’ gesture. Then suggested, “if she likes you, maybe you should give her a chance.”
I was maybe 11 but I was in love with my classmate turned partner in projects turned friends and she amazed me with her mind, athleticism and then she played piano and sang. I have zero musical talent but I know talent when I hear/see it. When I was leaving, I asked for a kiss and got a kiss on the cheek. I rode home on my bike like in a cartoon. Felt like I was floating and nearly crashed into a parked car because I wasn’t paying attention, only to traffic.
I count myself very lucky to have been born in the 70's, so I could be a kid in the 80's. I agree with most of the comments here. Don't say "Who's listening in" believe it or not, we never stopped. Thanks to all who shared their great memories. This is the closest thing to a time machine that we'll ever have. Thank you.
A year ago I was listening to this song on the radio on my way home from work on Saturday. Facing another long two days sitting at home alone. This song made me think about my friend who I was starting to have romantic feelings for. I went to her apt. that night and told her my feelings for her. She felt the same way. We are now living together and plan to marry soon. This song will always be very special to me.

I am not only still listening to this wonderful song it is April 2021. In these trying days that we are all living in. We all need our music to help us get through the day.
It's a gem of a song, I love it. Cronin didn't have the best voice in the world but he made the most of it, the vocal harmonies are top notch and he wrote this timeless classic singlehandedly.
Since u guys are swedes maybe u're the right ppl to give me a more accurated answer abt a question I've got: this album has many tracks, but when a swede u know for ages chooses to link u this specific song since we both share the same taste in music, does it means they're trying to send a msg through the lyrics of "cant fight this feeling anymore"? Hard to believe it was ramdon tho n asking directly isnt an option, maybe u guys could clarify that. Thanks in advance

These old love songs will never die, this was an Era where young love hurt more than any other time in my life and still to this day they carry me through some tough times.
25 year old guy here and I am proudly say that I listen to 80s songs than today's modern songs. In college, most of my classmates say that I am one of the rare ones who still listen to classic song and I take that as a compliment.
Greg Rice Comes from a series named JoJo's Bizarre Adventure where most characters are named after music references. There's a character named Robert Edward O. Speedwagon (clear reference) and one of the series' quotes is "Even Speedwagon is afraid!" When one character is describing the mood of the situation
I wonder nobody ever took notice of beautiful piano playing on this song by Neal.. he took this to another level...his contribution to the success of this masterpeace is little underrated i guess..if you listen to kevin talking about it....he admits he could have nevr played it so good if it was not Neal..It was out of his prowess on piano
people noticed. even if they can't explain why...they can't fight the feeling.....they are back here for a reason despite many other songs to chose from :)
Patricia Derouin sorry for your loss. I've suffered great loss as well but life does go on and after many years of loneliness and sadness I met an amazing woman. May you find peace and happiness in your life.
Patricia, When I was 28 I lost my best friend in life to the "C". She was a (26 yo) young mother of two very young children, one just born, that is how they found it (stage iv)... Sometimes we lose people in our lives and it changes us forever and it is only then when we can appreciate how precious and fragile life really is. More so, how important it is to love with all that you have to those you know and all that is in you. This song, and "keep on loving you" was her favorite. I have only recently been able to listen to these. It's been almost 25 years. I am learning them on piano (trying too). (I have come down with the "C" almost 5 years now) whats crazy is, I have a young child now too, but I enjoy my time with him and I keep on fighting, every day and I never look back. It's amazing how someone else can encourage you to get out of bed and fight every day just because they said, "I love you".
This was a big song when I was a very young Canadian Soldier. I served for 36 years and, there were many times that this song came back into my memory, as with tonight at 62.
I think that the reason why the feeling was fought before was because of the fear that his feelings would not be returned by the one he loved. But it’s always worth a shot.
I was 17 when this song came out in 1984 . . . And I enjoyed the song and was looking forward to the future . . . Now I'm 53 in 2020 . . . and I still love this song but now I just want to go back to being 17 in 1984 . . . Does anybody else feel this way . ???
Yes. Every damned day of my life. Was 15 in 1986 and danced to this song repeatedly with my high school sweetheart. Unfortunately, after graduation, we broke up. But this song sure does take me back to those days. Have to say, in a way, I never really, truly got over her, or quit loving the life and times of those years.
22 million views is pretty good for an old song (and one of the coolest 80s power ballads). I love that Supernatural, South Park, and lots of commercials keep bringing it back :)
My father just died a few days ago... I miss him so much and this was the song that brought him and my mom together. My new favourite song. Love you all
@@type_4410 If you look at fashion for manufacture groups of today looks are more important than singing ability. But I think you threw what I was saying.
I am 14 years old, and I discovered this song because I heard it on the radio way home one night. I immediately knew what era it was from, because it has a unique, beautiful and unmistakable rhythm. It's beautiful, I really love it. I am not from this era, but I really wish I had grown up and lived in it. Thank you for no letting this die. I literally have a handwritten list of songs from the 60s to 90s. I don't know what is it, but it's just that this music has some magic touch... And nobody can take that away from it. Nobody never will ✨.
I had just married a navy pilot and started my family in 1979 (I was 20). The sixties, seventies and eighties had the best music ever. Do you know why? Because only raw talent made it in the music industry. There was no technology to make you sound better than you were. I feel sorry for the younger generation today who are growing up with music from talentless "artists" and the crap and filth they put out today. You have a maturity that helps you see this. Your parents are proud of you, I am sure! I know I am.
@@triciamills6031You are right! That is very true! The truth is that the artists of that era are completely different from those of today, they were real. And although I am not saying that today's artists are not, unfortunately most of them are not, because of what you say. And it is also unfortunate that, in that sense, this whole culture has been lost. But thanks to you, who keep it alive, our generation can enjoy it as well!! Thank you very much, your words really mean a lot to me, and I hope you are right about my parents! 💕
I'm so glad that you got to discover this music. The movies from this era were also the best. Star Wars, the original Star Trek, Steven Spielberg... above all E.T. and the original Muppet Movie. And Jim Henson, the greatest television ever!
@@davidannderson9796 I'm glad I did too. I've watched a few: E.T., Star Wars, Indiana Jones, the Back to the Future trilogy, and I love them all! My dad is a huge fan, so I've known them since I was a little girl. I will watch those movies, because they really promise me a lot! Thank you for the recommendation!
I can't fight this feeling any longer And yet I'm still afraid to let it flow What started out as friendship, has grown stronger I only wish I had the strength to let it show I tell myself that I can't hold out forever I said there is no reason for my fear Cause I feel so secure when we're together You give my life direction You make everything so clear And even as I wander I'm keeping you in sight You're a candle in the window On a cold, dark winter's night And I'm getting closer than I ever thought I might And I can't fight this feeling anymore I've forgotten what I started fighting for It's time to bring this ship into the shore And throw away the oars, forever Cause I can't fight this feeling anymore I've forgotten what I started fighting for And if I have to crawl upon the floor Come crashing through your door Baby, I can't fight this feeling anymore My life has been such a whirlwind since I saw you I've been running round in circles in my mind And it always seems that I'm following you, girl Cause you take me to the places that alone I'd never find And even as I wander I'm keeping you in sight You're a candle in the window on a cold, dark winter's night And I'm getting closer than I ever thought I might And I can't fight this feeling anymore I've forgotten what I started fighting for It's time to bring this ship into the shore And throw away the oars, forever Cause I can't fight this feeling anymore I've forgotten what I started fighting for And if I have to crawl upon the floor Come crashing through your door Baby, I can't fight this feeling anymore

Great memories. This is back when Kevin Cronin actually looked like Kevin Cronin and Gary Richrath played that unmistakable guitar. They had already transitioned from a rock band to a pop band, going from Gary's rock guitar driven music to Cronin's ballads, but at least they still sounded like REO Speedwagon. Those were good times with some good music. Thanks for posting this.
Dave Melton Thanks for posting Dave. If you count the times I have seen REO playing club dates in Champaign, Peoria, DeKalb and Rockford, Illinois, I believe I have seen them 27 times. Back in the early days, Cronin was known for his long, curly, dark brown hair and played along side Gary Richrath. The last time I saw REO, was during the Arch Allies tour with Styx and Survivor in St. Louis. Seeing Cronin with short, "dirty blond" hair took some getting used to. The "Speedwagon" will always hold fond memories for me and I really appreciate people taking the time to post these videos and performances, and I appreciate you replying to my initial post. Later.

It's amazing how someone else can encourage you to get out of bed and fight every day just because they said, "I love you".

what are you implying
@@type_4410 If you look at fashion for manufacture groups of today looks are more important than singing ability. But I think you threw what I was saying.
Dam fat fingers and small key boards "knew" not "threw".

I can't fight this feeling any longer
And yet I'm still afraid to let it flow
What started out as friendship, has grown stronger
I only wish I had the strength to let it show
I tell myself that I can't hold out forever
I said there is no reason for my fear
Cause I feel so secure when we're together
You give my life direction
You make everything so clear
And even as I wander
I'm keeping you in sight
You're a candle in the window
On a cold, dark winter's night
And I'm getting closer than I ever thought I might
And I can't fight this feeling anymore
I've forgotten what I started fighting for
It's time to bring this ship into the shore
And throw away the oars, forever
Cause I can't fight this feeling anymore
I've forgotten what I started fighting for
And if I have to crawl upon the floor
Come crashing through your door
Baby, I can't fight this feeling anymore
My life has been such a whirlwind since I saw you
I've been running round in circles in my mind
And it always seems that I'm following you, girl
Cause you take me to the places that alone I'd never find
And even as I wander I'm keeping you in sight
You're a candle in the window on a cold, dark winter's night
And I'm getting closer than I ever thought I might
And I can't fight this feeling anymore
I've forgotten what I started fighting for
It's time to bring this ship into the shore
And throw away the oars, forever
Cause I can't fight this feeling anymore
I've forgotten what I started fighting for

Later.
