Painting a Layered Sky
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 29 май 2023
- In his usual step by step approach (while doing an oil sketch on paper) Dutch painter Janhendrik Dolsma shows how he paints a layered sky. For each phase of the process, he runs a ticker, containing the names and brands of the colors used.
The following topics are covered:
1. The color of the sky
2. Painting Cirrus clouds using Transparent White
3. Painting backlit clouds
4. Painting sparkles on the water
Dolsma (1950) is an expert painter of clouds, beaches, dunes and of course the ocean. On his RUclips channel he shares a lifetime of painting experience in short tutorial videos with an emphasis on painting clouds. His full length tutorials (over 60 minutes) have found their way to buyers all over the world. Full tutorials can be found here: www.paintingskies.com/video/
Dolsma participated in exhibitions in the Netherlands, Germany, the UK, Taiwan, Spain, Belgium and the USA.

You probably mean clouds? Don't get me started on pelling correction...

Thank you for this video.

Love your work Janhendrik . Although I’m a pastel artist like you I love to paint realistically. Most pastel artist seem to like to put a lot of colour in their work. And that’s rightly so . But watching you paint relates to me so much. Thank you I will look forward to all of your upcoming videos.
Thanks, Jon! I've worked with soft pastels a lot, mostly plein-air. It's a wonderful material.
Thank you for replying Janhendrik . I thought you might. I absolutely love them .

Thank you, Christine!
That’s amazing ! I never think of using my finger as a tool!
One of the great advantages is that you always have it at hand (pun intended).
I love how YT recommends me vidoes about how to remove background using the new feature in PS and then it recommends to watch a video on how to paint clauds with a brush. Very relaxing.
Ah, that's funny, thanks!
Amazing 🤗
Thank you!
Beautiful! I’m currently trying to paint a Hawaii scene and this helps with the sky a lot, thanks for sharing! :)
That's great to hear, Caitlin!

@@niveditade7095 I recently did a small sunrise painting. It's on my website, nr. 6 of the recent work section: www.janhendrikdolsma.nl/producten/
Gotta try it out..with your methods sir .
Pleased to hear that! If you're interested in my full length tutorials, please go to www.paintingskies.com/video.
Please are you using oil or acrylic I have a great love of clouds and the endless majesty they present as a roof over our planet thank you for sharing your knowledge .
My pleasure, Valerie. I'm using oils.
Fabulous skies! I'm working oil on canvas - frustrating how long it takes to dry between sessions... I'm using linseed oil - do you just set it aside and wait? Wish I could see your palette, you're using a lot of paint, and letting it dry between sessions. Please say more! ❤
I'm using a fast drying medium, Liquin Light Gel (Winsor & Newton). It allows me to resume working on the same painting the next day. Wrote an article about it on my blog: paintingcloudskies.blogspot.com/2016/02/the-fat-over-lean-rule.html. Hope this helps!
❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you!
"It doesn't look promising yet."
Me before he finished: "Wow, it's so beautiful."
Thank you!

How much time do you usually spend on a painting?
That depends. Size is a determining factor. On this painting On this one I worked just over a week. But a really large painting can take up to 4 to 6 weeks.
@@PaintingSkies1 Thank you very much for your answer! I learned a lot watching you do it and can now say i'm pretty good at painting skies ☺️. Again. Thanks!!
That's great!@@wyzeyzere
How do you keep your brushes soft and clean
I clean my brushes with sunflower oil and shampoo. Did a RUclips video about it: ruclips.net/video/RUkC3RBVjcg/видео.html.
@@PaintingSkies1 thankyou
Heel aardig voor een 'schets' 😉
Dank je, Ben! Het is een beetje aan mezelf gericht, om mijn neiging tot perfectionisme in te tomen.
💕💯🎨🎨🎨
Thank you, Robert!
is that acryllic or oil colour?
It's oil (as mentioned in the video description).
Oils presumably?
That's right, Keith.
