Lovely work! When painting the body of cloud I use a gray/purple mixed with ultramarine, alizarin crimson, burnt sienna and white. This may be darkened/lightened with more/less of the burnt sienna. The lighter areas of the clouds I may use a little yellow ochre mixed with the white and perhaps a touch of red too to the yellow ochre depending on how orange I think the light is. Then for your stippler and blending brushes, the fun part! Stuart Davies has nice demos on painting clouds. He often uses his imagination, I'm afraid i still largely rely on references but i let myself go because clouds can be forgiving! Observation when not painting is even beneficial. You can lighten dark areas of the clouds easily, blending with a soft brush held at a distance, whipping the soft bristles into the paint. Work big, it's much easier to get a good result with dark to light, light to dark transitions. Good luck
@@james6401 Thanks for your comment, James! It just goes to show that there are many different roads to get a good result. I agree, observation when not painting can provide lots of helpful information. In fact, I think it's crucial. I will check Stuart Davies. Thanks for the tip.

Nice video, very informative! The difficulty seems that the clouds must be hit by sunlight from the same direction as the landscape below. But the painter wants particularly interesting clouds. The painter gets the clouds from somewhere else and they have a different angle as the sunlight hits them. The clouds then do not match the incidence of light to the incidence of light in the landscape.
You're absolutely right, Lenny. When combining two (or in my case more) pictures, you have to be very aware of the direction of the sunlight. In he case of this painting it comes from the right. That's why for example, the sea is also lighter on the right and the shadow of the buoy is on the left.
