Lovely work! When painting the body of cloud I use a gray/purple mixed with ultramarine, alizarin crimson, burnt sienna and white. This may be darkened/lightened with more/less of the burnt sienna.
The lighter areas of the clouds I may use a little yellow ochre mixed with the white and perhaps a touch of red too to the yellow ochre depending on how orange I think the light is.
Then for your stippler and blending brushes, the fun part! Stuart Davies has nice demos on painting clouds. He often uses his imagination, I'm afraid i still largely rely on references but i let myself go because clouds can be forgiving! Observation when not painting is even beneficial.
You can lighten dark areas of the clouds easily, blending with a soft brush held at a distance, whipping the soft bristles into the paint. Work big, it's much easier to get a good result with dark to light, light to dark transitions.
      Good luck

@@james6401 Thanks for your comment, James! It just goes to show that there are many different roads to get a good result.

A few months ago, I purchased your lectures and tried drawing the same pictures. Drawing the sky and clouds has always been difficult for me. Your lectures were a great help. I learned many new things I didn't know before, and I've been working on it for about two months after watching your video lectures. It's still not finished, but I'm in the final stages now. Painting the ocean felt more challenging than I thought, and I'm still not satisfied, so I'm making some adjustments. I'm really happy and grateful to have discovered your lectures. I have a few questions, but may I ask them after working on it a bit more? Thanks to you, I can create beautiful artwork. Thank you.

Thank you! I did try acrylics, but I was never any good at it. I wrote an article about it on my blog: paintingcloudskies.blogspot.com/2016/08/oils-and-acrylics.html.
If you find the time you could read the comment on the article of an acrylic painter (Gayle) with lots of tips to apply the glazing technique with acrylics.

@PaintingSkies1 thanks a lot, will do for sure! And thanks for the kind reply. I'm getting back into painting but never tried oils before, I'll think about giving it a shot.
      Have a nice weekend!

I'm pretty sure you'll like working with oils. I always fund them a lot easier and versatile than acrylics. Success!

Love your work, thanks for the tutorial. I'm new to Oils and trying to learn. I'm curious, maybe I missed it but how long did you have to let the paint dry in between layers?

Thanks, Dennis! Because I'm working with a fast drying medium (Liquin Light Gel, a Winsor & Newton brand) I only have two wait a day before I can resume working on a painting again.

My pleasure! I buy my stipple brush in a local hardware store. here in Holland its normal use is for painting doors and window frames. here's a link to buy your stippler online: www.dickblick.com/products/blick-scholastic-white-bristle-stencil-brush/?fromSearch=%2Fsearch%2F%3Fsearchword%3Dstippling%20brush

@@PaintingSkies1 - Thanks for the quick reply. Forgive me, but I actually saw that you made a video on your brushes, which is very helpful, but was wondering if you have made any videos on preparing your painting surfaces? Thanks again! Really wonderful videos. Thank you!

@@PaintingSkies1 That was great! Thank you! I noticed that you had a question in the comments sections on mounting a frame to your MDF panel, which is a good question. Do you make the frame yourself or buy one already made? Thanks! Sorry for all the questions. But I do plan to purchase at least one of your videos. :)

Nice video, very informative! The difficulty seems that the clouds must be hit by sunlight from the same direction as the landscape below. But the painter wants particularly interesting clouds. The painter gets the clouds from somewhere else and they have a different angle as the sunlight hits them. The clouds then do not match the incidence of light to the incidence of light in the landscape.

You're absolutely right, Lenny. When combining two (or in my case more) pictures, you have to be very aware of the direction of the sunlight. In he case of this painting it comes from the right. That's why for example, the sea is also lighter on the right and the shadow of the buoy is on the left.
