As a video gamer myself I’m not very good at stuff like this, I’m more of a Fornite and COD online multiplayer type person. I think it’s kinda fun though watching Brett Cooper play flight simulator, I think Brett can actually play it better than I can

1:28 it’s not you! I’m a flight instructor, what you are experiencing is the left turning tendencies of a single engine plane. There are multiple different types, but essentially the way the propellor spins, it will pull the plane to the left. The counteract that, pilots learn really quickly how to apply enough right rudder to keep centerline. Nice flying!

"gaming is not really relevant to culture" brett come on. There are some tech projects, inspired from, some people are having jobs due to it. And i'm a conservative saying that.
I can get really old people, who remember the very simple early games, not understanding the interest in gaming. Those simple games still played a big role in moving technology forward so I fully agree with you.

As somebody going through getting my PPL right now this has me cracking up remembering my first time in a plane
DO NOT QUIT.
I was the student pilot long ago, and soloed back in 1979. However, I did not stick with it to get my PPL, mainly due to lack of $$$. {I did work in Aircraft maintenance for many years, first in the military and then as a civilian contractor.}

As a pilot who flies small planes for fun, try flying irl. 100$/hr for a flight lesson and its really fun, just make sure to ask for the most small and light on controls plane they have. also some pilots have planes you can open the windows of, and they wave american flags outside.
And do not attempt any barrel rolls.

Tried some flight simulators with VR and the vertigo can be intense. The difference between what you're seeing and what the inner ear is feeling can be intense

Brett the timing of your video was too perfect...I just finished a flight in MSFS from Dublin to Leeds, UK. Not as lucky as you to be able to fly in VR though. Cheers from a loyal subscriber.

I'm looking into getting MSFS, what type of equipment do you recommend? Am I able to buy a yoke and throttle and incorporate it with vr?

@@Random_Person1023 hey! technically yes, you can use different peripheral’s it just depends if you are on Xbox or PC, but VR only works with PC!
When you fly in VR and use actual hardware, muscle memory is critical to being able to “see” and use your sim pit hardware. I have a video talking specifically about this.
Hey Brett, if you ever want to try this for real, I know a great flight instructor (me) in Chicago!
A few more hundred hours in the simulator Brett and you'd be much more qualified than many of the DEI hires. I'd rather fly then than with any of them.

that game is pretty amazing, I flew along the riverland in south australia where I spent a lot of my childhood. Also flew around a lot of islands in the pacific, if you don't go to close to the ground it's kind of real 😁

I wouldn't recommend a barrel roll in a Cessna 172. AGL != MSL. While theoretically rated for 15k MSL (Sea Level) ceiling, weight and balance, density altitude and temperature affect actual AGL (Above Ground Level) ceilings; and when you're flying around mountainous terrain, you might be at 10k MSL, but 0 AGL; flying 1500 feet AGL there is actually 11.5k MSL ... there's a lot of math that goes into flying.
Uggh! You definitely need a real yoke and pedals with some programmable buttons, instead of those goofy hand controllers! Not surprised you can't even maintain a straight flight path with that rig.😜 Very entertaining nonetheless! I'm still tinkering with an old version of MSFS every now and then!😄👍👍
I want to fly F-18s someday so badly😂 I got to fly the Navy's F-18 flight sim a few months ago at a Naval Air Station, and it was so much fun! (When it comes to steering the F-18, the stick doesn't just go front, back, left, and right, it also twists side to side.) You did well in all the planes for your first time though! Congrats!

Flight sims are a lot easier if you have a physical joystick and throttle instead of using VR hand wand things for the stick and throttle. It's so much easier to have something real to grab onto to control the plane and get some actual feedback on where the neutral control position is.
Going from a Cessna and an Icon A5 to a Hornet is not a nice jump in difficulty and complexity. The problem you were having with getting the Hornet's throttle into afterburners is probably because of the afterburner gates - in the real thing there's a pair of finger lifts on the throttle to stop the pilot pushing the throttle into burners accidentally. But really, although the official manual says to use burners for take off, it's not necessary in sims and particularly when there's no external stores to weigh the plane down.
You should play VTOL VR! It's an awesome flight sim with a whole lot of interaction without it becoming overwhelming, also missiles and explosions so very cool

I LOVE flying around in this sim and others. Its not only a great way to reduce stress, but I have learned a lot about myself along the way while learning how to fly. I don't ever want to be a pilot, but I do highly enjoy playing around in the sim. A fun trick to learn is how to hover or kite in an aircraft. Once you learn the basics, turn into the wind, and lower the throttle carefully while extending flaps and balancing with the rudder until you are barely moving - this is extremely dangerous so don't do this in real life EVER. You can hover in anything from small planes to the Darkstar as long as you stay calm and are carefully balanced. The closer to the ground you can hover without stalling, the higher your badass rank... 🥳
