    very interesting video. I have Polycycstic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) which i was diagnosed with at 16 after not starting my period and freaking out. I was on the pill for 2 years after which i decided to stop and realised i was crazy depressed on the pill (Levlen. i stopped taking it and waited to see if my body worked itself out. i have had 2 periods since then and its been almost 5 years. my last period was 2.5 years ago. I asked a doctor about it today (not my normal doc) and she said that i should go back on the pill because not having a period for so long can affect your calcium levels in your bones and cause osteo problems.

    Thank you so much for sharing!
    I've had so many problems with the pill myself. I started off on Levlen, since my periods were super heavy and we needed to control them. I was on it for a year or so before I had problems with large blood clots and severe period pain.
    I tried Yaz for a couple of months, but my hormones were everywhere. I had a couple of months with nothing, but it was total aging. So I went on the Depo injection. I got it 3 times (so 9 months), so no period for that time. But in that last 6 months I ended up with severe bleeding right as the injection was wearing off. To the point where I was iron deficient because I was losing so much blood. Major pain with the large amounts of blood too.
    So I ended up going on TriFemme, which is a pill with different levels of hormones in each week. My periods aren't as heavy, my pain is so minor, my weight is consistent, my moods are stable, and any blood clots I get are so tiny, which are normal.
    But again, thank you for sharing x

    I think it’s crazy how you can have such different experiences depending on what doctor you go to and what pill you take as a result. I was prescribed Yasmin for acne (I wasn’t even asked if I was sexually active). I didn’t get informed about the liklihood of any of the side effects. I’m still not sure if I should take it

    I've been on the pill (Diane to be specific) since i was 14, i had severe acne and it really helped control my breakouts and regulate my period. I'm now 30 and i'm still on Diane. Ive tried others here and there, but nothing else really worked for me.
    Everyone is different, my pill won't necessarily work for others and some peoples bodies will reject it all together. Thats the power of the human body.
    Thank you for sharing your story Stephanie, its interesting to hear other peoples experiences :)

    So glad you brought up this topic stephanie! I agree there are positive and negative effects and it is so different for everyone but I really encourage girls to do some research before deciding to go on the pill. I would look at other options for contraceptives first and if you just want it to treat acne it should be a last resort - I recommended trying mario badescu or realU, if they don't work roaccutane would be less risky than the pill! If you do take the pill I wouldn't recommend being on it for a long time, I think its important to give your body a break. I feel amazing being off it now knowing that I am just myself and everything is working naturally. On the pill your body is being controlled in a way and when you mess with some hormones it can throw others out of whack like sleep hormones, digestive hormones etc it made me extremely moody almost like i was a different person and gave me anxiety and IBS. It also scares me that we can't always trust doctors. They always brush away the blood clot risk but there are so many girls that have actually died from it! Its hard because obviously preventing pregnancy when you're young is a big priority haha just try out other options first and then the pill but avoid yaz. Just be careful girls :)

    I am happy you shared your experience with BCPs. I too was on Yasmine and loved it but caused me blood clots too. I was recently on Gynera, but had literally been waking up with my feet feeling numb but with pins and needles feeling as soon as I wake up and just didn't feel right. I too stopped taking them and I'm currently on my first period after stopping the pill for the past month/cycle. I have had 3 pregnancies and 2 children and I had and still have VERY heavy periods, but honestly... I don't want to have a stroke and miss out on a healthy life with my kids. But a good idea for women who are on the pill, is to take it for 3 months and take a month off (stay safe of course while off), and then take it again. Give your body a break from the hormones. And if you are on it and want to get pregnant it's better to be off the pill for 3 months before getting pregnant just to be rid of the hormonal effects that the pill has on your body and your cycle would be more regular and you're more in tune with your body (without the hormonal influence). Thanks again for this video. All the best

    This was a great video! I have tried a few different ones myself. The first time I tried the pill the day after I started taking it I got a period so bad I was in tears. I switched the depo shot and was good with that except it caused serious weight gain. Fast forward to 2 years later my husband and I WANT to get pregnant and are kind of struggling with my hormones. I regret ever going on the shot but the pill TOTALLY helped my body regulate. I'm older than a lot of your subbies but yeah that is my story 😊

    I had a similar doctors experience with a conservative doctor, except in my case they were recommending I get the rod because I'm young (20) and so I don't need to remember to take it, even after making it clear that I am not interested in anything that I can't stop using myself. I'm sure they meant it well, but it does make it difficult when doctors question your ability to self medicate. I'm a pro-pill person and have been on Yasmin for 18 months. For me, it's wonderful - nothing beats light 2 day periods!

    Yes! Can we please talk about this!
    I was first introduced to the pill when i was 19. I was started on Yasmin and stayed on it for a year. During that year, i woke every night nauseous, often vomiting. I brought it up with my doctor a few times and i was told that it wasn't a side affect the pill could have. My wake up call was when I vomit so hard i burst a bunch of blood vessels in my face and i went to hospital because my parents thought it was meningococcal, which it wasn't, but it looked like the rash you can get from it. After that i went to the doctor and i told them i needed to change and i was given levlen. I took that for 3 months but had new issues, so i asked for another one, i can't remember what it was, but the hormones were lower in it and i got constant break through so i stopped all together. I thought that the issue with the third pill may have been because of all the chopping and changing, so tried it again a year later, had the same issue so i stopped and ever since then i have had the worst skin i have ever had. I have never had any break outs ever and i now get at least 3 new pimples a day. I am so unhappy with my face, especially when I am in professional settings but i don't want to go back to any more pills. I feel like i have wrecked my body and i agree i wish there was a way of testing bloods or hormones before going on a pill to find the right one. My friends have great results with the pill and i know it can be amazing, but not for me.

    I don't think Yaz would cause issues with your veins versus Yasmin, because Yaz has less estrogen than Yasmin and it's the estrogen that causes the risk of blood clots.

And then why after stopping this most recent time everything is perfect?? Share your strategies girl!

    I just came across your video. I've been on birth control for about 12 years now. I started when I was 15. I've had several different types and even had The Skyla IUD for a year. The IUD turned out to be extremely painful after a year. I did stop taking birth control for almost a year between this time. I also stopped having my period (ovulating) for 6 months. I do plan to stop after the current pack I am on this month. I'm going to use Natural Cycles and be more in tune with my body and be ready when I actually want to have kids.

They also didn't have it but assured me that the brand they have is the generic brand to what I normally take. Trusting the pharmasist I took them, well I thought I was dying. My period got heavier it lasted a month I could barley make it up the stares out of breath my legs felt like jelly and the clots that I was getting were so painful I was in tears. I didn't have the strength to do anything. I called my pharmasist he had the pill in stock I went to get asap the heavy bleeding and clots went away and I'm feeling normal again. Not sure why that happened but it was scarry.

    It's so weird how different doctors prescribe different things, I was prescribed Yasmin first when I was 12 as treatment for endometriosis by my regular, go-to doctor and I mentioned I was on it at a medical centre once and the doctor looked at me in horror like I was about to drop dead. I also had similar issues with YAZ, my periods were awful, it did nothing for my pain and my periods legit lasted months, I had non-stop spotting for 6 months. I miss the little dispenser though. I'm on Marvelon now which I like, I found it really gets rid of any water you have in your system though when you start taking it which is super weird.
    It's weird how the pill effects our bodies so much, I'm at the point now where when I was taking the sugar pills my emotions were literally uncontrollable which is supposedly due to your body going through oestrogen withdrawals basically so I use an oestrogen patch (designed for menopausal women...) to help regulate my hormones when I'm having my period. So anyone having problems with moods ask your doctor about patches, they really really help me in like a matter of hours.

I used to take Diane (which helps to prevent severe acne) and everything was ok but then my doctor suggested me to stop it for a while because it was considered quite "heavy" for my body. After the break (more than 1 year) I took it back and I've started suffering from anxiety. I'm still wondering if it could be related but I decided not to take it anymore.

      I think so - I've never needed to take any tests, and I've never been asked to, and because of that I think there's a general expectation here that the doctors need to trust their patients if they have no history of any medicals issues in relation to this.

    • @poa1986
      @poa1986 8 лет назад +3

      It's because there is no conclusive evidence whether the birth control pills affect the fetus during pregnancy or not. The doctors must protect themselves and their careers by asking us to do a pregnancy test before prescribing those pills. And I think that is completely reasonable, no one wants to get sued. I actually think the doctors prescribing pills without running previous tests are being negligent, and don't really care about our wellbeing and we shouldn't trust our health to them. We should't be paying a consultation with a doctor to buy a prescription, but to use their knowledge. Props for US doctors!

    The bottom line is that hormonal changes to anyone’s body will cause horrific changes to the body. This might not be so obvious like hair loss, skin issues, moodiness etc. but it still happens nonetheless. The reason why doctors want you on this crap is because it pays them and the pharmaceutical companies providing them. If you’re having sex then either use condoms, another form of contraception (non-hormonal) or guess what don’t have sex. I know it’s hard to think like that but biologically you’re doing so much harm to your body that you don’t even know about. Everyone’s going to end up with so many problems because of the pill that could have been prevented by not using it. You wait- it will be worse than smoking

    I had the Mirena IUD for like 3 years and then had no period for like 1.5 years. So, my doctor has prescribed my Yaz to regulate my periods. I have been feeling so bloated, nauseas, and having all sorts of stomach issues. Ive only been on it for 2 weeks and I already want to stop. But I am so terrified that if I stop I'll have other issues come up. UGH so frustrating!!

    Although the doctor made you feel uncomfortable and went about it totally the wrong way the reason he was wanting to check you weren't pregnant is that the pill would harm an unborn child. My doctor asked me if I thought there was a chance I could be pregnant before I took the pill and I'm guessing if I said there might be a chance or I didn't know then she would have given me a pregnancy test. I can't believe you have to pay so much for birth control, it's free in the UK. I didn't like the pill at all, it totally messed me up coming off it. The main side affect for me was massive hair loss. If women are sensitive to hormones then it will cause hair loss 😥 Great informative video! xx

It caused so many problems for me which I'm still dealing with 4 years later (anxiety, IBS, heart problems) and messed my hormones up so much. I would only recommend the pill for contraception, if its just for your skin its not worth putting your body through so much! Try mario badescu for skin or if you are sexually active try a pill with lower risk of blood clots just avoid yaz!

    I had the same thing happen where I went on the pill for about a year then when I decided to go off it, I didn’t have a period for a year. My skin also got really bad, I was losing hair and just kinda freaking out. My doctor said I should go back on it, which I did, but I really wish I hadn’t. I want to go off it again, but I’m really afraid of those symptoms coming back and I feel stuck. /:
    I also had a hard lump on my leg that started hurting and the next morning I had a bruise that was the size of a baseball. I hadn’t even hit my knee at all, but the bruise lasted for over a week. I’ve also had issues with getting sharp chest pains and that concerned me the most.
    Thank you for discussing this and sharing your story.❤️

    Hey Steph! Xo you know I love you and this video is very informative, but I do think that you don't have to take any pills or any birth control if you don't have sex at all. I personally say have sex after marriage, because I think intimacy should go hand in hand with commitment. Say I'm conservative or old fashioned or anything like that, but I would still like to say that the real safe road is to not have sex before marriage at all. And I do agree with many of your opinions :)

    Damn that doctor was an ass! I had a bad experience with a gynecologist. She was the same ethnicity as me. I was 19 at the time and a virgin and also wanted birth control. She was a little standoffish and rough with me when she did my pap test. I was offered no explanation and next thing I know she was prodding me with a Q-tip. I know it's bad but I haven't been to a gynecologist since and I'm 24. I want to get on it but many of my friends have had bad experiences on the pill. I started taking the birth control Aviane almost a month ago and within the first 5 days i had no bleeding but then day 6 the bleeding that i thought was my period started and then after 4 days i still was bleeding and then it still continued until recently Thursday 20+ days long bleeding and now im still having to protect my underwear with liners because im still having spotting since the bleeding issues ended now im severely anemic and having issues feeling like my stomach is being stomped on by cleats, my boobs feel heavy af and hurt everyday, i feel nauseous so much i have to take antinausea medicine every day 2x a day and the birth control is the lowest dose they have made and i have such issues but last week on monday i had started feeling sooo lightheaded i almost passed out so i go to the womens urgent care (nonemergency gynecologists) and the doctor treated me like i was full of bs and tells me oh yeah whats going on is normal wtf how is bleeding for more then 7 days normal i had been bleeding for 3 weeks and a day and i felt offended because she basically dismissed it like really dude i feel dead. The reason i started taking these pills is because i have reoccuring ovarian cysts for the past 7 years since i was 14 and heavy periods with very very painful cramps that rate higher then a 10 to the point it crippled me so that was my reason for the pill but now im thinking of changing pills once im done with these because these pills arent great and i feel sort of dead.

    OH MY don't ever go back on it again if you had that experience with Yaz and its chemical family. Btw Levlen has been around longer than Yaz . Yaz is currently in its experiment phase some doctors say . That's why it's prescribed first all the time when you go to just any doctor. I experienced breast lumps after the pill which I NEVER EXPERIENCED BEFORE . No women should have to go through this. I took it because of my ovaries but the minute the lumps on my breast popped up i got right off it. It's not worth it , the side effects really aren't. I used to feel really down all the time. Even when i told the doctor about the breast lumps (which i still experience till today) they weren't really too surprised. The pill has been linked to breast cancer and it even has a bit about cancer in the packaging when you first buy the pill from what i remember but I'm not too sure now. Anyways id never subject my body to that again even if I become sexually active ... to me my health is worth more.
    I find it ridiculous that we do this and men do nothing.
    X.

    • @StephanieBailey
      @StephanieBailey  8 лет назад

      +shiraz fernandez I have found it so crazy speaking to other women about this topic and how many have had similar experiences! It's wonderful in theory, and for some it is the best thing ever! Unfortunately my body hated it! I feel like there should be more education on the topic! Xx

    • @shirazfernandez8411
      @shirazfernandez8411 8 лет назад

      There certainly isn't much education because it's a multi million dollar company and if they did educate us they would be losing millions. Many women would choose not to go on it if they heard other women speaking about their experiences, not just reading it off the booklet/pamphlet they give you. But hearing a voice discussing the side effects that are really happening out there, makes us really secound think our choices we make with what we want to put in our bodies. I know it's a very controversial topic but more light needs to be shed on the harsh outcomes that can happen if things don't go too well. I think you should make like a movement something that will wake people up. Think before we put these drugs in our body.
      You have a great platform to shed light on this.

    • @aw8119
      @aw8119 6 лет назад

      shiraz fernandez I realize your comment is a few years old but this is absolutely what is needed. There is a fantastic organization called Natural Womanhood and on the web it’s www.naturalwomanhood.org This site contains so much useful information for women’s health. I posted another comment on this video regarding my daughter who died from using birth birth control pills. I wish we had known about Natural Womanhood sooner because it could have been a life saver for her. Knowledge is power and unfortunately when it comes to birth control and women’s health in general, most of the information that’s being presented is one sided.

    I think this is totally shocking to see how expensive contraceptive pills are expensive abroad, you say you paid 80$ when in my country (Im from France) most of them are free, and the ones that are free are usually very good. I have just experienced one and it was great to me, to my body. I had a all-in-one for zero euros and, idk, it's just freaks me out to see how expensive it is. I stopped it for some reason, even tough it was free, but it's sad to realize some people can't afford birth control because it is too expensive.

    Hey Stephanie! Thanks for sharing your birth control story. Regarding the need for you to take a pregnancy test before getting the pills, in my country you need to sign a indemnity form under oath that you aren't pregnant before taking birth control pills or acne control pills because they have strong compounds that may have negative effects on a foetus. I understand why you may have felt insulted but its actually quite normal to do that because abortion laws vary from coy try or even state to state!

    There is alot of negative talk demonizing birth control for me it was amazing . 4 years ago I started my period like I thought was normal but it was a little heavier then normal but I didn't think anything of it but it never stop think about the heaviest period you ever had and times it by 5 with blood clots the size of half dollars with severe cramps. And have that go on 4 months I went to every doctor in my town and they could not find what was wrong with me . Finally went to a OBGYN and was diagnosed with PCOS and was put on progesterone only pill (mini pill) and that with metformin helped control my hormones and stop me from feeling like im bleeding to death.
