Time for a road trip. Off to CORREGIDOR ISLAND (Bataan, Philippines). In PART 1, I show you that things often don't go as planned🤔. I included this segment in our Corregidor story as it could be extremely beneficial for others planning a trip to Corregidor from Angeles City (AC), so as not to make the same mistakes we did😁. First, we depart AC at 6 PM on a 3 hour bus ride to MARIVELES (Bataan, Philippines). After a late dinner, We find a room for the night (BAYWALKS TRAVEL LODGE 1200 pesos/night = 22 USD). [At this point, all is going well]. The next morning, we ask the hotel staff where to get the boat to Corregidor, which is in agreement with George's memory as well, so we head off to Biaan to the west (Laki Beach White Sands) after breakfast. [Here is where things start to go off-course]. Needless to say, NO boats from this location in Biaan will take us to Corregidor😲! Things have changed dramatically since Covid. Only certain boats associated with specific tour agencies and THE CORREGIDOR FOUNDATION INC (CFI) have permission to access the island (it's a private island). Luckily for us we contacted Flora, from GUI DEL MAR TRAVEL AND TOURS (contact details below). She had two spots available next day (as Saturday is the only day you can join a tour at the embarkation point in Bataan), coached us on how to get to the tour agency office to pay (2,500 pesos/pp = 42 USD which includes tour guide, island tram ride, outrigger boat ride, island fee, travel insurance, tour organizer, and lunch), and found us a close place to stay (DUDICE TRAVEL LODGE 1,500 pesos/night) to wait for our tour Saturday morning. After settling in to our rooms at the DUDICE, we venture out to visit one of George's old friends, Ailine, who he remembered lives nearby. We arrived unannounced, but are welcomed with open arms and smiles and treated with great local Filipino hospitality by Ailine, her family, and friends. They cook lunch for us and we spend the entire afternoon/evening catching up, drinking beer, telling stories, and doing some arm wrestling😂, before they graciously give us a ride back to the DUDICE for the night. So our misfortune turned into our good fortune - had all things gone according to plan, we would never have met up with Ailine and would have missed out on the tremendous experience of neighborly Filipino kind-heartedness. Stay tuned for PART 2 where we take our trip out to Corregidor Island.....

Thanks Ginpad!...well said: probably the number one mantra of travel: even with the best laid plans, things can AND do go wrong....be ready to adjust....although, as in our case, it helps being lucky toothanks for the view and comment

There's lots of unimaginably brutal WWII history where you guys are in Bataan. Thousands of Americans died at the hands of the Japanese while trying to defend that place. My dad served in the U.S. Army over there but he refused to ever talk about it until the day he died. I understand from others that he spent weeks hunkered down in a foxhole being hammered by Japanese artillery and planes. I expect you'll see lots of history if you guys make it over to Corregidor.
