Very good tutorial. I appreciate the way you have broken things down into well demonstrated stages. Look forward to seeing your take on other subjects.
Certainly one of the clearest and most logically presented guides to one of the Waffen SS camo schemes.Makes a refreshing change to those somewhat verbose presenters mis-pronouncing all the German words!
I've just started trying to paint this. I've bought a Vallejo paint kit that has the colors. You can paint oak and the palm tree spring time. But with this video it has helped me to do the patterns. Man thanks for this I was really needing this
very good tutorial, the resulst is awesome! i have always problems to paint ss camo because its so small and i never know which colours are the right ones. thank you for sharing your knowledge!
man that has really helped me , i have 4 ....1-16th ss soldiers to do on my tiger 1 diarama and that vid is gonna help me big time...cheers brother and keep them coming.!!
That`s pretty good may I say !! The only thing to add would be to fill in some of the Orange mass in the centers and give the whole lot a very thin wash of beige to tie the uniform together as the Orange pops out a bit too much,..but that`s seen through my eyes only and my personal taste and opinion but as I say a a really very good SBS Thanks :)
I just finished following your tutorial - I am very pleased with the result on my Dragon figure (Battle of the Hedgerow figures). However instead of using a lighter shade of brown as described, I used Tamiya Dark Earth for the base coat. I thought it looked similar. Great tutorial (please do more).
@Gott0300 thanks for the tips, my colours dried with slightly less contrast so by chance the figures look ok. They are crew of a flak panzer. its tho first model I've made in 25 years so some techniques like weathering with washes are new to me. will experiment as i go. thanks again.
Make sure that both of your your hands are resting on the table so you can keep them steady. If they start to shake or you are getting a headache you are probably focussing too much and it's time to pause. Make sure the working place is well lit and ventilated. If you like, listen to some favourite, relaxing music or something like that. I like to keep a DVD running and listen to audio commentaries, because it is really calming me down and helps me to relax.
@lodhol For the uniforms I use acrylic or enamel paints. It's just the skin tones and the shadings that I use oil colours for. But that's just one way of doing it. There are people who can paint an amazingly real looking face with acrylic paint; it depends on the technique you use and how skilled you are..
@kampfgruppe13 For the spring pattern I use the exact same colours, maybe the chocolate brown basic colour should be a slightly darker shade than it is in this video. Use the black and brown just as discribed, but in the final step substitute the orange brown for a light green. I use either Revell SM360, a light fern green, but semi glossy, so it's important to not forget the flat finish, or Vallejo's 70833, German camo bright green, both can be mixed with white to get lighter.
Thank you for the the tip with the Vallejo colours. I almost exclusively use Revell colours, because my hobby shop doesn't have Vallejo in the product range. The orange ochre probably looks better than the orange from Revell, which is a little too colourful.. ;)
thanks it looks great eh. i will be mixing the colours from primary colours. Im getting quite good at it now so will pause your video to get the match just right
Danke. Einfach mal googeln. Viel Spaß beim Modellbau. ;)
Outstanding sir...thank you so much for posting. I agree with you given the 'scale' I think your technique works very well. Now (for me) its not so "huh?"...where or how do I start kinda thing. I Learned a really cool technique tonight so once again thank you for sharing.
@capemamaforhorror Thank you very much! No, when you know how to do it and tried it once it is actually fun and very pleasing to watch the pattern "grow".. :)
@wightlion Thanks, mate. You're right, the way I painted it the jacket looks brand new, like the picture in the beginning. If you'd like to give it a worn out and bleached look you'll have to mix and lighten up the orange to achieve that. But feel free to experiment; after some time being exposed to sunlight and weather there weren't two jackets that looked the same.. :)
@Falke40lg Thanks. The figure in the video was painted just for demonstrating purposes and with enamel colours only. It was done very quickly in approximately 1 hour. When I paint a complete figure it takes way more time. Sometimes 3 or 4 days or even longer. That is because I use oil colours for the flesh tones and certain details and they need a very long time to dry.
Please keep in mind that the orange brown that I have used looks quite colourful, what makes the uniform look brand new and not weathered at all. When you look at pictures of WW2-soldiers who had worn the stuff for some time, the camo pattern looks a bit different and faded by the elements. You might wanna try and mix a touch of white to the colours to brighten them up or give them a washing of the highly diluted basic colour as a last step. Feel free to experiment. :)
@winstonzz Thanks, mate. Yeah, I forgot to mention that this would be the colour of a spanking new jacket that had never ben washed, like the one in the picture in the beginning. Of course one can shade the colours to make them look bleached and worn. Looks much more realistic.. Cheers :)
Thank you very much for this video. I have 2 Waffen-SS figures I've been trying to paint, and so far the results have been far from satisfactory. Sitting down now to paint them using this video as a guide.
@lodhol RUclips won't allow me to post a link in a video commentary, so I left a link to a good tutorial by the figurine f***ing master on your channel. I hope it will help you, though it takes a lot to get as good as Calvin Tan.. ;)
@fltopp1 Here's the link to a site where I explain how to paint a face with oil colours. But no step-by-step pictures, sorry.. tinyurl . com / d8hn 685 (again, get rid of the spaces)
@fltopp1 Thank you. No, I haven't made anything yet. Maybe I will in the future. Here you can find a tutorial: tinyurl . com / czl9 glf (remove the spaces) This is figure painting on the highest level, I can't do it! But I prefer oil colours anyway.. ;)
@Godking88 It's really all about practice! When I started, my first attempts looked awful. And I'm still not as good as I'd like to be.. But you'll get better each time, I promise. Take a cheap, badly produced figure that can serve as a practice object and start painting it. Use a good, fine pointed brush and clean it often, so the paint doesn't get hard and stiffens the hairs. Don't haste, you've got all the time in the world. And if not: don't even begin! That's all I can say.. :)
Well, I have this slight fixation on German stuff, you know.. ;) The Dennison smock camo is similar to the German splinter or marsh pattern, isn't it?! Not too difficult. Maybe somewhere in the future, mate. But I won't make any promises.. :D
Been trying to get this right for ages, but this video breaks it down into clear easy steps. Thanks very much for posting!
Very good tutorial. I appreciate the way you have broken things down into well demonstrated stages. Look forward to seeing your take on other subjects.
This makes it simple, step-by-step and much less intimidating. Thanks.
Ive always wanted to learn this pattern, now I know I can do it. Thank you oh so much!
Always seem to come back to this tutorial. Love your technique! Would love to see more camo patterns in the future!
That's a hell of good tutorial, works perfectly as well for summer pattern. Thx a lot

Best Regard's Pete..
Great Tutorial video ! you made a quite complex pattern look easy! any chance of something similar, on the British Dennison Para smock?
man that has really helped me , i have 4 ....1-16th ss soldiers to do on my tiger 1 diarama and that vid is gonna help me big time...cheers brother and keep them coming.!!
I usually go for white coveralls for winter or german grey in summer! But now i can see myself attempting this camo so thanks for the tips.
This was really helpful in guiding me for my 1/16 figure! Thanks alot & keep it up!
That`s pretty good may I say !!

you made look a little easier then I thought it might be...gonna give it a go...
Very nice job. Im definetely going to use this as a guide. Do you have a guide for painting a 1/35 scale face and hands?
Thank you, that was very clear and easy to follow! My scheme will prob be a bit simpler again as I'm working on 1/72
Very good and instructive! Thanks for sharing.
Really good job love the camouflage pattern
Thanks for posting the video. I am going to try this this weekend!
Thanks for making it look easier. I'll give it a try.
This is very helpful. As you said, perfect for these figures A+++
awesome paint work
Very nice. I think i'll have to add some SS troops to my Bolt Action WWII forces and play around with this color scheme.

For a short video, it was very informative. Thanks for sharing that.

Gutes Video, sehr hilfreich;) Welche Faraben würdest du für eine Sommertarnung benutzen? Ich hab auch die Revell Kunstharzfarbe

Great video tutorial.

Then this isnt the video for you
@Godking88
No trick, it's just a matter of practice.. ;D
