This movie suffered from the same isuses as Spider-Man 3 of shoving way too many characters and plot elements into one film, but compounded even further since this always felt like nothing but set-up for a Sinister Six film. You can tell that Sony were desperate to create their on SCU (Spider-Man Cinematic Universe) to rival Marvel’s success due to the Avengers coming out only 2 years prior, but it ended up failing miserably and led to them cancelling all their future movies/sequels and agree to include Spider-Man in the MCU instead. And so if there’s one good thing to come from this movie, it’s definitely that. Well, the action/swinging scenes were also pretty decent too, even if I’ll forever be miffed that they gave the biggest blue-balling of the century by not including a full fight against The Rhino. Like seriously, why include him at all if he wasn’t even going to do anything? Oh yeah, that’s right: to set up another movie with him that never got made!
What's bad is that it's even worse tasm 2 at least spider-man 3 despite have to much going as well still felt way more tied and connected with the plotlines it felt you were still watching the same movie with the same tone it felt balanced this movie feels 5 movies into one the tone all over the place one time the movie is rom com drama with Peter and Gwen Then it's a fish out of water film max aka electro as the villain Its horror antitode film with harry as the green goblin Then a drama spy scifi film about peter finding the truth about his parents and may And then it's a superhero movie It's so jarring the film passing is terrible
I mean... as bad as some of the writing was... it had some of my favorite all time live action Spider-Man movie moments. I love the romance and the scene with the kiss on the bridge and I loved the Electro fight. The way Peter and Gwen wanted to support each other even if it meant taking different paths. The opening with the fight before the graduation. The scene with Spidey helping the bullied little boy with his science project after the bullies broke it. It was a lot of great stuff. I might say that the great parts have me more pumped and loving the character than the Raimi movies where Peter is so "aw shucks" and too goofy to really buy as a real guy. It's like there's a lot of fantastic stuff among a cluttered movie. Sony should have let Marc Webb do it his way because he knew what he was doing and it could've been great rather than a mixed bag.
I think the idea was with this movie they wanted it to be a much more upbeat positive kind of Spider-Man film. You can obviously tell by the saturation, the new suit, and humour, this take on the character was supposed to be more leaning on the friendly neighbourhood side after his grief and revenge of Ben’s killer, and you gotta admit the visuals look fucking amazing. The issue this film has is things aren’t properly explained, like Max’s obsession with Spidey (which was actually explained HOWEVER in a deleted scene), Harry’s relationship with Peter and the ghost of Gwens dead.
I heard that the original cut of the movie was 8 hours long. No I am not kidding. Originally Max was supposed to look up to spider man as a father figure because his dad left him, and there’s a deleted scene where Max has an narcissistic mother who forgets about his birthday. After Gwen’s death there was a scene where Peter beats up Harry and almost kills him. Sadly it was cut from the movie possibly due to how violent it was. And there is another deleted scene where Peter meets his father at the cemetery. I hope someday we get a directors cut.
So, fun fact about the beginning of this film, it was supposed to start with Spider-Man swinging around New York, and even on RUclips its called the "First five minutes" of the film. They then decided to put the scene with his parents at the beginning instead, so that's why there's so much tonal whiplash
That song though, "I'll love you long after you're gone, gone, gone" I have a soft spot for the film, it has its problems. I can't help but like it. The suit is the best one.
Even as a 12 year old kid I thought the movie was bad. Back then I thought it was very disappointing that it didn’t follow the same darker theme of the first TASM movie and instead went more lighthearted, and the first one already disappointed me
It really sucks how the Amazing Spider-Man films are considered the black sheep of the franchise. Andrew Garfield is my favorite live-action iteration of Spidey, and I think he captures the essence of Peter Parker and Spider-Man very well, even better than Toby and Tom IMO. It sucks that his second movie doesn’t do him justice.
It said this movie let Andrew heartbroken since he truly is a big spider-man fan. He’s a good actor to. It sucks people say he was a bad spider-man when he really wasn’t. He just had a bad script.
I had been fired from a preivous job a while back and felt deeply depressed so my best friend came to hang out with me and brought this movie so we could laugh at it. And it worked
Gwens death was the thing that saved her character in the comics and that made this movie less of a joke. Her sacrifice for the people in danger and her love for Peter gives something that makes this garbage tragic and romantic. I don't think that we will see any Gwen dying the same way anytime soon. Her story was wasted on this faking movie....
To be fair about how unrelatable Electro is in this movie, it's still one of the most relatable versions of the character we've ever seen. He's almost always evil for the sake of being evil, except for the one time he was written as a guy with inpulse control and a temper that gad an accident that turned him into Electro, which is the one from the Spectacular Spider-Man cartoon.
@@brandonspain12345 Never said it was THE most relatable. Just ONE of the most relatable. So even he's the third or fourth most relatable, what I said still stands.
imagine if this movie kept the same atmosphere of the first, focus on one villain (green goblin), and made peter more mature after what he went through in the first movie, all of that to lead to gwens death, for peter to just fucking crack, reminded that he just broke a promise and understanding everything uncle ben and captain stacy said to him, shit would've hit the feels so hard
23:30 I wanna point out how the Nazi Scientist plays classical music while experimenting on electro, but the music is diegetic. Electro's theme is also supposed to be diegetic despite that not being communicated clearly to the audience earlier, so your hit with this weird audio dissonance where two songs and two characters speaking are all played at the same time.
The original Amazing Spider-Man 3 script was somehow even more insane than anything in this movie with resurrecting Norman, Gwen and his Dad like what the hellll.
Holy shit I remember my elementary school tried to gas this movie up when it first came out and they were giving away tickets for the movies for kids who wrote a decent essay for the “With great power comes great responsibility” line and we even had Stan Lee day the same month where we could dress up as Marvel Superheroes. I never won anything expect a bag of ruffles and a coupon for Pizza Hut but man that really puts on rose tinted glasses on how bad the movie actually was. Movie was pretty crappy but the Spider-Man event at school was pretty swag
I think the way the conflict between electro and spidey could be done as like electro tries to get close to him to hug him or smth and spidey backs off to not die 💀, and electro gets mad thinking the person he admires actually doesn’t want to be around him
Imma be honest, Max/Electro's Theme goes so hard. It does a fantastic job telling the story of his polite yet socially anxious with the whispers amd clarinet and goes full on edm.
'right like this isn't an origin story' oh there are other thing's it copies such as the villain having a close connection to peter and becoming an evil father figure character to make uncle ben look better a scene where peter publicly humliates flash and then gets called out for it by uncle ben despite him deserving it the ending having peter friendzone his love interest at a funeral because oh what if the villains find out even though she's been in danger previously the way the origin is portrayed is even the same as in the 2002 film such as peter having an argument with ben before his death peter letting the robber go as petty revenge on the guy who was robbed because the guy was being a cheap asshole for no reason i guess the moral of the story is to not be cheap or you'll robbed and assualted and the person you we're a cheap dick to will watch and make sure the theif gets away with it he even says 'not my policy' which us literally the same exact fucking thing as 'i miss the part where that's my problem' all of this was also done better in the 2002 movie
TASM1 not only had the writer from SPIDERMAN 2, but also had a writer from the HARRY POTTER movies, and a writer from ZODIAC All because of LAURA ZISKIN TASM2 on the other hand, had the writers from TRANSFORMERS All because of AVI ARAD
I remembered watching this movie with my mom and brothers! My big brother (who never gone up to use a restroom in the theater gone up during the movie and used the restroom!) Also refilled the popcorn 🍿! The first one was pretty good from what I remembered! But the sequel is very forgettable and baad!
I don't think anything has happened to Spider-Man to make him not feel the same anymore? Sure the comics aren't as good because they refuse to age Peter, but the movies and games are still going strong. Personally, Spidey's always gonna be my favorite superhero
It’s sad how this would be Andrew Garfield’s final time as Spider-Man in a film (Before No Way Home). Honestly it would have been very cool to see Garfield’s Spider-Man go up against Venom in a third film. Thanks a lot Sony.
The old suit was supposed to be a suit that an angry Spider-Man wears at a time when he doesn't care about doing the right thing, not entirely realizing what Uncle Ben meant. After he saves all those people on the bridge, he begins to realize that he needs to stop focusing on his hunt for uncle Ben's killer, because using his powers to help people is a better way to honor Ben. His new suit is the suit of someone who's adjusting to his place as New York's hero, who the people stand behind.
The funny part about the suit change is in a you guessed it, a comic for the movie which is strsight forward, Peter stops a crime gang, his suits gets half destroyed and Gwen made him a new one
False, this movie was actually underrated in a way. Andrew is literally the best choice to play as both peter parker and spider-man. Hes not too buffed and strong which represents a typical vigilante highschooler. Gwen's death was also a major role since this was supposed to capture peter parker's loss like in the comics and they played it like cherry on top. Both 1 and 2 deserves a better credit, THANK YOU haters for bringing this piece of art down. And if you hated this movie or spider-man itself then you dont know what it's like living two different lives.
I think it's unfair when people compare superhero movies to comics because they're constantly re-written. I grew up with the comics my dad grew up with, aka the ones from the 60s-70s and I once met a guy who was convinced that Norman was... um... the father of Gwen's children. I was very confused because it wasn't like that in the original so I looked into it and found out he was referring to another version from the 90s. So he was only half-right. 🤷🏻♀️ I also think a lot of Sam Raimi fans were mad because there wasn't that many Spider-Man movies at the time. Nobody ever gets mad at a new Batman or Superman movie because there's so many; even during the late-2000s.
I just love how the final battle against Electro basically boils down to: Spider-Man: Man, you know what, this Electro guy is just too much of a hassle. Let's kill him? Gwen: Hell yeah, I'll help! And the movie NEVER treats it as a moral dilemma or a tragic resolution, it even has triumphant music playing when Electro fucking explodes. Peter Andrew was probably having a hard time understanding what the issue was when Peter Tom told him he didn't want to send the villains back to die.
But what choice did Andrew's Peter have at that point? Trying to defeat Electro is not always easy as whipping out an advanced draining battery from a 3D printer...
@@AardmanCoasterManplease tell me this: would ANYTHING change in the narrative if this pseudo-science Andrew and Emma used to fucking blow up Electro just drained his powers instead? And then we can talk about choice. And I'm not saying Electro didn't HAVE to be stopped, at that point things were already going completely to shit, like, you know, the... ticking time bomb in the form of two planes that were about to collide... without either Peter or Gwen knowing about it... holy fuck this movie sucks. But I'm saying that there were a million other ways they could've handled that didn't make Spider-Man look like a cold hearted killer and didn't show Electro a shred of empathy for being what's without a doubt, the Spider-Man villain who least deserved what was coming to him.
With how notorious Sony is for ruining their own films with their constant meddling it’s a wonder how the Spider-Verse movies are as good as they are. I know a lot of people want Spider-Man 4 and Amazing Spider-Man 3 but unless Sam Raimi and Marc Webb were given full control they would probably end up being trash.

What's bad is that it's even worse tasm 2 at least spider-man 3 despite have to much going as well still felt way more tied and connected with the plotlines it felt you were still watching the same movie with the same tone it felt balanced this movie feels 5 movies into one the tone all over the place one time the movie is rom com drama with Peter and Gwen Then it's a fish out of water film max aka electro as the villain
Its horror antitode film with harry as the green goblin
Then a drama spy scifi film about peter finding the truth about his parents and may
And then it's a superhero movie
It's so jarring the film passing is terrible
even if this movie is a D+ the relationship with gwen and Peter goated and the dialogue with Peter and aunt may is built beautifully
The fist movie I ever cried at her death left me I my feelings 😂
Her death is completely ruined by how goofy The Rhino is at the end

I mean... as bad as some of the writing was... it had some of my favorite all time live action Spider-Man movie moments.
Where were you in across the spiderverse dawg i watched the whole movie just to see you
The Lego scene was me.
So, fun fact about the beginning of this film, it was supposed to start with Spider-Man swinging around New York, and even on RUclips its called the "First five minutes" of the film. They then decided to put the scene with his parents at the beginning instead, so that's why there's so much tonal whiplash
at least the aftermath of EDM was making Electro's theme more unique and rather fitting for his powers, it's also a bop

Remember how Dumbsy said this was an on-and-off relationship?
This right here was the “off” switch.
I remember as a kid watching the first Amazing Spider-Man and enjoying it but I didn’t have interest in this sequel.
SPIDER-MAN UPLOAD FROM DUMBSVILLE??? IM BUSSING???
That song though,
"I'll love you long after you're gone, gone, gone"
I have a soft spot for the film, it has its problems. I can't help but like it. The suit is the best one.
Me too. And that is a great song!
Even as a 12 year old kid I thought the movie was bad. Back then I thought it was very disappointing that it didn’t follow the same darker theme of the first TASM movie and instead went more lighthearted, and the first one already disappointed me
Yup. Very light hearted how a boy lost his girlfriend in a last moment attempt to try and save her.
I had never seen my family so happy and heartwarmed when Gwen's back snapped
#IBlameAviArad
It really sucks how the Amazing Spider-Man films are considered the black sheep of the franchise. Andrew Garfield is my favorite live-action iteration of Spidey, and I think he captures the essence of Peter Parker and Spider-Man very well, even better than Toby and Tom IMO. It sucks that his second movie doesn’t do him justice.
#IBlameAviArad
I think Andrew is a not a very good "Peter Parker" but the best live action "spider-man", the moment he puts on the mask he just becomes pure gold.
"It's still one of the most relatable versions of Electro we've ever seen."
Clearly, you haven't seen Spider-Man The New Animated Series...
Bro literally the only thing I remember from the movie was Gwen’s death. And even then, my mom had to remind me that I spoiled her death for her
The original Amazing Spider-Man 3 script was somehow even more insane than anything in this movie with resurrecting Norman, Gwen and his Dad like what the hellll.
TASM 3 should have been about Peter and his father exposing Oscorp.

The ghost of Gwen Stacey's dad feels our disappointment in the sequel.

the kid at the end of the movie is the one he saved from bullies earlier during the montage
TASM1 not only had the writer from SPIDERMAN 2, but also had a writer from the HARRY POTTER movies, and a writer from ZODIAC
All because of LAURA ZISKIN
TASM2 on the other hand, had the writers from TRANSFORMERS
All because of AVI ARAD
They should've cut the plane crash scene and opened with Spider Man swinging. Then at the end add Richard Parker.
I break up with you. They fly now? They fly now.
the eel scene traumatized as a 4 year old.
They should've just opened with Spider Man, that way you can add that Richard Parker scene. Idk, it could've fixed something.

The way Twitter is now, you might have to get outta there, Dumbsville.

I was watching this on my phone while going to the bathroom, and i thought that my washing machine had finished washing all of my clothes. 😂
I also think a lot of Sam Raimi fans were mad because there wasn't that many Spider-Man movies at the time. Nobody ever gets mad at a new Batman or Superman movie because there's so many; even during the late-2000s.
I love your editing 😂
I just love how the final battle against Electro basically boils down to:
Spider-Man: Man, you know what, this Electro guy is just too much of a hassle.
True!
