I remember walking out of the theater, everyone silent except for the sobbing. I've never seen anything quite like it.
(And as to the calculations Thanos makes, they don't actually make a great deal of sense... removing half the population [and they imply he removes half the plants and animals too] would cause lots of ecosystems to simply fail entirely, and the ones that don't would quickly return to current population levels, probably in a human lifetime.)
@@RustyChilders yeah he's an evil megalomaniac. He is wrong, but he is devoted to the idea, because he thinks he's the only one who can save everyone. The whole point is showing how dangerous someone who thinks they have all the answers can be.
Agreed. I didn't know how close they would follow what had been done in the comics, but I knew it was going to be extreme and it still hit like a ton of bricks.
Every one would survive on Twinkies and cockroach burgers
@@macfine but was he entirely wrong tho? After Eternals his actions were even more questioning.
Saw this on opening night. When we were walking out, EVERYONE was in shock and we were all dead silent. I vividly remember seeing the next group of people waiting and how their expressions changed. Excited. Chattering. Then they saw us walking out.. the smiles disappeared and THEY got eerily quiet and looked verrrrrry worried.
Josh Brolin (aka Thanos) had a great answer to your question. Someone asked him, "Why didn't Thanos just snap his fingers and double the resources in the universe, instead of killing half the population?" He said, "Because that's how CALLOUS Thanos is (to others suffering). That didn't even occur to him."
It did he just realized it would make the problem worse more resources means more over population and destruction of planets for resources it is only putting a bandaid on the problem not fixing it. Not saying his idea was better.
If you factor in exponential growth, doubling resources would be less effective for a given amount of time. But he didn't need to stop at double either.
I wonder if he could have used the gauntlet to invent technology... Magic up some STC's from Warhammer 40K.
Spider-Man’s death always makes me tear up the way he sensed it coming but couldn’t do anything about it. Thors face when he realizes that he failed to stop Thanos is also heartbreaking
I have watched this movie probably 50 times with my own watches and reactions and it still gets me every time
His healing factor also probably delayed his death as much as it could until it no longer could keep up with the snap
@@Tolandruth I haven't managed to watch the film again yet. Too depressing for me.
@@ApexCalibrethat was confirmed which must've been absolutely brutal to experience~
@@antman0719 You're body being torn apart atom by atom only for it to try and quickly patch things up only for it to rip apart even harder? Yep definitely brutal
I don't think Thanos was portrayed as evil, he was convinced that because his planet ran out of resources and died that the same would happen with the whole universe. And because he didn't stick to his guns and sacrifice half his planet he didn't want indecisiveness to get in the way again. So now he has complete conviction towards achieving his goal. And has respect for those who share in his conviction. It shows in how he killed Loki because he wavered in choosing between Thor and the Tesseract. But said he liked Quill because he was going to kill Gamora when she asked him to. Or when Wanda killed Vision to stop him. Even Tony, he apparently was aware of the things Tony has done as he too was "cursed with knowledge." He respected that kind of conviction to their Ideals.
That's actually a really good observation and adds even more layers to Thanos' character, I'm glad I read your comment!
Thanos was such a great villain
Thanos is the embodiment of extreme utilitarianism. The ends justify the means, and the ends are the extension of all civilizations in the universe. And he see himself as egalitarian because the selection of those snapped out of existence is random. But he has become so enraptured by this ideal that he justifies every evil act needed to make it happen. He is the “good points” that lead to genocide, slavery, colonialism, and every other atrocity committed in the name of the “greater good.” He stands in contrast to Cap’s statement “We don’t trade lives.” As a rule of thumb, even when Captain America is wrong, he is still right. Meaning even when his logic is incorrect, his viewpoint is correct and will be the right choice.
Them: ''Laughing at spider man and telling that hes gonna die''
Me: *me doing the akward face*
I'm not even a Spider Man fan and that still annoyed me...
So, according to James Gunn, Groot's very last "I am Groot" (which is directed at Rocket) means "Dad."
Thor's scene with Rocket is always a favorite of mine. It's great acting by Chris Hemsworth; you can see how much Thor is trying to keep it together, but the cracks in his facade are so visible.
"If i'm wrong then...What more could I lose?" that speaks volumes when you look at all he has lost; Thor is almost completely broken beyond repair at this point. Even Rocket could see it 😢
Just a shame they didn't build on any of that great work by Chris and the Russo brothers and just made him a gimmick 😢
@@stuartclarkson48 ikr Thor Love and Thunder was horrible mess
The fact Thanos actually won and The Avengers lost was so shocking
The Avengers lost because they refused to sacrifice one life for the greater good. Gamora wouldn't let Nebula die, Cap would let Vision be destroyed and by the time they did it was too late. Strange would't destroy the time stone. Any one of them acts would have saved countless lives.
I wanna go back in time and watch this on the cinema on premiere day.. the emptiness when I walked out the theater just felt like nothingness. And obv End Game that felt like everything.
@@MrClarksvillain if avengers won in infinity war the earth would have destroyed by the emergence and eternals would have done their duty and let the emergence happen.... because of the 5 years ajak saw the potential of earth people and inspired the other eternals to stop the emergence....
@@rajdeepghosh4805 facts but they didn't know that when they refused to sacrifice people.
@@MrClarksvillain Would you let your sister be tortured to death to stop a guy from getting a rock? He would have got the info out of Gamora one way or another anyway.
I’m not sure Strange had the ability to destroy the time stone even if he wanted to.
Cap was trying to do the right thing and save everyone like he always does. Basically he just underestimated Thanos. It also wouldn’t have mattered if they destroyed the mind stone earlier as Thanos had the time stone and could rewind time anyway.
You feel hopeless now, imagine a few years ago when we had absolutely nothing else to go on. So well written. So good and just waiting for over a year for endgame.
Everyone was emotionally scarred from this movie.
Bro the TORTURE! Then we had to pretend to be happy during Ant man and the wasp and captain marvel
A lot of people are angry at peter for lashing out at thanos but I completely understand and I don't think I'd do anything different if that was me. He lost his mom and didn't properly let that go until 30+ years later when he read her letter, he found his dad, something he had wanted to do his entire life and when he did he found out he was the one who actually murdered his mother which opened up a completely new kind of grief he dad to deal with regarding his mom, he then lashed out and had to kill his father which is more grief he then realizes that yondu is his father who died in his arms after sacrificing himself for peter minutes after he killed his bio father, and the one person he finally allowed himself to love, who was there for him through that grief (who he just promised to kill and tried to kill for her but failed and lost her to her abusive father) he just found out she was murdered too and the person who did it is in front of him and you're telling me you wouldn't lash out too?
Definitely agree with this. Tony should have blasted him out of the way with a repulsor beam as soon as it looked like he would be a problem, but shooting your ally isn't exactly an instinctual response.
@@folcotook3049 laughs in tony backhanding Steve in civil war after seeing his parents murder culprit
I love how back then people what on star lord hard…….while also defending tony in civil war with Bucky…..
even without the actual emotional part of him lashing out, he was still right to lash out on Thanos, Strange would have stopped him if it wasn't part of the plan, but Strange let Peter go off because Strange needed Peter to do that, in order to win against Thanos.
@@4ricz813 That's a fair point. In the end, it all worked out as it's supposed to.
Imagine seeing this in theaters, listening to all of the kids crying, then having to wait a year before Endgame came out.
Even tho you still have ant man and captain marvel to watch before avengers endgame imagine watching this in theaters and then learning you have to wait a YEAR to learn what happens next
The scene of Thor and Rocket in the ship is my favourite scene in all the MCU. Chris Hemsworth's acting is chefs kiss
They really perfected the blend of funny and serious for this movie.
Thor entry in wakanda always gives me goosebumps 🤩🤩🤩
“Thanos wins…” was the quote you heard everyone say in complete disbelief when I saw this in theaters, chilling.
Notice that Strange's hands still shake even when he was giving away the stone.
And having to wait a whole year for endgame, was torturous for me 😩
Awesome discussion at the end, this really got Meg feelin' philosophical! 💜💚
BTW, the word for what Thanos was talking about is *Malthusianism* : "the idea that population growth is potentially exponential while the growth of the food supply or other resources is linear, which eventually reduces living standards to the point of triggering a population die off." (from Wiki)
I’m not a philosopher by any means but population depletion is never good that’s why we naturally morn the dead. The more good people there is in the world the more likely we’ll solve the problems that are important and possible.
When I saw this movie in the theater several middle school girls started crying at Peter Parkers scared "I don't want to go!" line . and as they were still crying out in the hallway after the movie the" Dad' that with them really didn't know what to tell them..
You were kinda right the stones are drawn to each other and activate each other. Loki used the mind stone in avengers to open a gate to the space stone
It only just now occurred to me for the first time after watching this movie more than a dozen times that there are some civilizations that had 3/4 of their people killed by Thanos because his army killed 1/2 of their people and then he snapped another 1/2 of those left.
Thanos needs to review a fractions course
Eh he seems smart enough that if he was really committed to the 50% bit he’d do the math and leave out planets he’d already visited
And yet he isn't smart enough as he did it randomly and there is his biggest mistake. By doing it that way he could have happened to wipe out 99% of every medical professional on a planet meaning many people will die due to no medical care. Plus if a plane carrying 500 passengers has it's pilot and co-pilot blipped then all 500 will die and so it isn't balanced.
There is also the chance that there might be civilizations who lost none of their population, and other civilizations who lost 100% of their population.
@@ch33les99 Thanos doesn't want to do the math. He wants it to be utterly random. That's his twisted idea of being fair.
29:32 I've watched a lot of people react to this movie, but holy moly, that scream was completely out of left field. It was a scream of immense and sudden fear.
Only annoying part is they’ve clearly seen it before and acting like they don’t know what’s next is kinda annoying she straight up predicts half the movie correctly
@@Bgrande2255 THANK YOU!!! I thought i was the only mfk person who knew this reaction was completely false. This movie is turning 5 years this year and they "havent heard or seen anything" not even the memes ?? bs

Actually, you already have with Ego.
The best thing about this movie is how it managed to maintain to tone of all of these different characters and their movies while they interacted. When the Guardians meet Iron Man.
I remember them saying James Gunn was bought in set to help direct the guardians scenes
21:07 Mark!
Meg: "Two Peters! It's comfusing!"
Michael Scott: "That's what she said! She actually said it!"
Sterling Archer: "Phrasing! It actually counts!"
Steve Rogers: "I don't get it."
Lucifer Morningstar: "Peter Cottontail and Peter Rabbit. You would think that they would get along. But they were bitter rivals."
😅
28:25 Mark! Heh. As we know by now, later on, he still doesn't go for splitting Thanos' head open! He decapitated him by going for the neck! 😂
Thanos is basically like Kratos in God of War 3. He lost his family and friends and has nothing to live for so he is just destroying everything in his path and doing whatever he wants. Only difference is Kratos doesn't care what other people think of him while Thanos has savior complex and wants everyone to appreciate him for "saving" resources.
That's not how kratos is in GoW 3 at all... At least not that simple and not comparable, He's in a state of denial, frustration and with his trust to people destroyed. He's much more like Joaquin phoenix' Joker, where he has flaws and problems that could've been eased if the world around him didn't suck.
We don't really know Thanos' pre titan's decay but as far as we know he's really survivor, kind like hįțľēr, he survived through a traumatic and deadly experience and saw himself as the only know what to do stop it to happen ever again.
I'll just leave you with this, James Gunn confirmed that Groot's last words to Rocket as he was fading away was "Dad?"
Spider-man been my favorite hero since I was a kid so watching him go out like definitely struck a nerve, then having to wait another year for endgame 😭
You know I'm kind of glad this franchise only focused on the Avengers instead of going mental with the crossovers in their rendition of Infinity War. Would've been cool to have X-Men, Fantastic Four show up but heavily focusing on the main Avengers really made everything so much more emotional, crossover with the Guardians was really cool. But who knows maybe it would've worked both ways we'd just end up getting this film a few years later as I'm positive Marvel would've pumped out a F4 and X-Men movies and then tie those into Avengers with Civil War and then Infinity War one big crossover. But legal reasons they were forced to focus on Avengers and they did really well.
Would've been cool tho
i mean that’s what we’re getting in secret wars so we’ll see
They didn't have a choice. They didn't own Fox Studios yet.
That’s where secret wars comes in. That’s when we’ll see legit everyone
the infinity gauntlets with all the infinity stones ANYTHING is possible. it's not just for deleting half the universe, it for anything you can put your mind too. you just need to be powerful enough to do it.
I was able to hold it together until Spiderman said I don't want to go
You need to de-populate because resources will run out. If he wiped out half of all living things, that means any plants or animals for food also got cut in half. And let's not forget in just a few generations. You're back to the same numbers we began with.
Thanos obliterated half of all sentient life. The Russos should have specified that in the script. As we saw in the films, only sentient beings turned to dust.
@@Stogie2112 Birds too, remember.
"These people have shows!!!" 😂😂😭 nice reaction
James Gunn translated when Groot said I am Groot to Rocket before disappearing to mean "Dad"
Super envious of people watching these for the first time. Plus no one has to wait a year in between Infinity War and Endgame lol.
Interesting fact about Thanos in the MCU: His motivation in the movie are way better than in the comic, in the comic he kill half of the population in the entire universe because he is a simp (LITERALLY, NOT JOKING, THATS HIS PLOTLINE)
Meanwhile in the movie he has a more serious reason to kill half of the population and thats because he really believes that is the only way to save the entire universe, he doesnt want to rule it or whatever, he just want to save it and thats it,. So he has very good intentions but his methods are cruel with the people he want to save. Thats make him a complex character
Not just that he's a simp, he's a simp for a female anthropomorphic personification of Death.
@@VanArchonnot to mention Thanos in the comics looks like a weirdo... Thanos in the movies looks easy cooler
the shocking end. i remember it so well and i loved this cliffhanger. it was so unexpected and emotional. i was speechless, so were all of the people in the cinema.

Now imagine having to wait a whole ass year to find out what happened next
I'll never be able to watch Spider-Man falling into Tony's arms and not cry like a baby.
M'Baku leading that war-chant in Wakanda was epic!
The stunned grief walking out of that theater is something I will never forget
Wow. I've watched so many Reactions to Infinity War, but Meg, watching your reaction to everyone fading away made me cry.
Never seen you guys, but I'm subscribed now and waiting for Endgame with y'all.
This was the first movie I ever cried at, which has caused me to cry at many more
God I’ve never seen a packed theater where at the end of the movie everybody was silent. Seeing that in theaters was just as crazy as the movie itself
Saving Private Ryan: Everyone left the theater either silent or crying.....especially the older men.
man how many years now and still tearing up... this is the movie will ever live in us....
I remember being so hateful with Thanos, but after watching Eternals, about the Celestials stuff, made so much sense what he was doing.
He was right in this movie, but the decisions he made was wrong...I mean, he didn't have a lot of choices, but he choose the most effective one.
Lmao this opening on "imagine if he dies" is hilarious
I have to say the dude they got to do the voice of Red Skull did a great job sounding like Hugo Weavings Red Skull voice.
The finale of this was really tough to take in the theater, and we had to wait a year for Endgame.
13:28. That resembles water skiing more than surfing! 😉😅
I died from laughter when you said in a confused panic, "These people have shows?!?!?", I mean true.
Thanos isn't a trickster he is the hero of his own story and believes in his mission. On rewatch you'll notice he could've killed everybody in his way but never actually uses the stones to their full potential, only enough to deal with the problem at hand. In his own way he is respectful, to Gamora to Quill and to Stark. I think this is best shown when dealing with Cap, he could've swatted him out of the way easily but only used the strength he thought he needed which is why he is caught off guard by Cap holding him back
Her screaming at falcons death 😭
Just amazing theater experience from the moment of the Wakanda battle to Thor’s entrance everyone was hyped and screaming and excited then when Thanos killed Vision it got quiet and tense then Thor came in again and everyone thought yes we won, but then the snap happened and just complete silence and the sobbing - just quiet and people waiting for the next showing were yelling no spoilers lol love it
The end was devastating in the theater. It was dead quiet. I went in my Iron Man shirt and my son was in his Spider-Man shirt. When Peter Parker disappeared I was wrecked.

*"There is enough for everybody's need & not for everybody's Greed"*
Thanos really didn’t put much thought into his plan. Can you imagine the damage he would cause to infrastructure on planets like earth? Hospitals losing their staff, freighters not having enough employees to operate and if the snap kills off an entire government you’ll end up with insane wars as people try to gain control.
Plus you’ll have to kill half the universe over and over again because people would have learned nothing and will continue down the same path as before.
I think that's kinda the point. Even if it's not totally thought all the way through, that also helps his plan. Power vacuums and loss of infrastructure is more death to add to the total and therefore, less strain on finite resources. So even in your deconstruction, his plan still works in his head.
Nebula just standing there hands free when Quill bouta to lose it. Girl get yo boy, put your cuñado in check so we no gotta cry

11:43 "No two species are identical. All must be judged on their own merits. Treating every species like one’s own is racist-even benign anthropomorphism"
Thanos is like Chiwetel Ejiofor's character in Serenity (2005), he keeps talking about a better world. and when asked about it he replies "I'm not going to live there. There's no place for me there... I'm a monster. What I do is evil. I have no illusions about it, but it must be done.
29:07 -- That one broke me, when I saw it in the theater. More than Bucky, or Doctor Strange, or Spider-Man.
It should be pointed out that, since Thor is 1500 years old, he's had time to take A LOT of electives.
I'm sure someone in the comments already mentioned that in the comic book, i think, Thanos was actually doing all of this to impress the goddess of death, Thor's Sister Hela.
I thought Thanos was an idiot. Instead of killing half the population in the universe, he could have just tripled its resources and created a spell or principle that anyone trying to steal and surplus resources to have power, immediately self destructs in the act.
I also think it made no sense that there was only one way to kill Thanos.
Tony could have used his suit to make the blade he made during his one on one fight with Thanos, and chopped off his head or arm when Mantis was controlling his mind.
They could have accessed the stones then.
Then Strange could have portaled them back to the New York sanctuary.
Then found out they were needed to secure Wakanda.
Helped beat back the army and then regroup.
How come MCU Thanos doesn't use the Infinity Stones to create and provide enough resources for everybody in the universe?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
09:00 - A curious fact is that this place actually exists, it's called "Lençóis Maranhenses" and it's in the city of Maranhão in Brazil!
38:00 Mark! The puppies return! 🐶 🐶
We left the theater in shock. Had to wait a year to see if anyone came back.
The funny thing is it low-key is kind of Peter Parker's fault, if you pay attention when he says I got it referring to the Gaulet that's when Thanos snaps back into reality from Mantis trance. It's a very well directed scene that naturally makes people blame Quill when really the blame should be shared between all them except like Mantis, Drax and Strange(Has his own reason for not desolating the situation)
I’m a Christian and I realize I’m a sinner and not perfect and can embrace the same things non believers. Just like people going around saying you should take a vaccine. Why? Is anyone that takes the vaccine any better than people who don’t.. I don’t know. I just think we create unnecessary conflicts. But other than that and the opposition of God… I liked the reaction.
The original comic series this was based on was even crazier. The crossover comics were even wilder as every comic book series was affected from the lesser known comics to the most popular comics. Everyone was affected by that snap. The chaos was epic on so many levels it bordered on madness.
You think you will tear up during this? Wait til endgame!
To answer Meg's questions Thanos wants to be viewed like Allah, a savior, Thanos believes he will be everlasting, if he is viewed as a Deity rather than Emperor.
I get the joke/meme of "why was she up there all this time?", like... i laughed when it happened in the movie, but... she was there for a reason, the moment she came down to help, they went to get Vision/the stone, because they REALLY didn't want to deal with Wanda.
Anyway, just wanted to point that out =P, i'm really enjoying you guys' reaction, and can't wait for the next ones. ^^
Tbf after many years many fans are saying that Thanos was right, tbf Thanos is morally wrong, but hes got a point.
Thanos isn't about chaos. He's all about imposing his idea of order onto the universe.
Thanos does make more sense than what you see of him here... you see the result. After one of the later movies it will make more sense when you look back. Once you realize who/what Thanos was and how his planet got to be the way it was... He still is mad, but I can see the way he got there.
There were trailers for upcoming movies for characters that were dusted. 😂😂. I remember sitting in the theater looking at people fake crying like..."Did you get here late and missed the trailers?"
Should have watched chronologically beginning with where it all started... Iron Man
yall keep saying "the stones deemed him worthy? I don't trust the stones." but the stones aren't conscious... it's just that anyone who is physically powerful enough to not die from it can wield the stones' power. the soul stone is a bit trickier because you have to sacrifice something you love to receive it, but the stone still isn't conscious. these are just the rules, like the laws of physics. are the laws of physics conscious because they make everything follow the rules?
29:45 Mark! They are all favorites to at least one.
Your "hate" for Thanos right of the start makes me think what would be your reaction to the discussions post infinity war launch and the "Thanos was right" people
The Universe didn’t start from chaos.
It started from absolute order (a singularity containing all the matter/energy of the universe is the most highly ordered state possible).
The Universe is heading TOWARDS chaos in terms of all the matter/energy in it is moving towards the most random state.
Also the planet doesn’t literally fight back against anything.
That misunderstanding is a result of science communicators’ misguided embrace of anthropomorphic metaphor in the last 20years.
The stones accepted thanos because he was 100% right. He hurt more rhan anyone, he sacraficed and hurt yet kept going cause he thought it was the right thing. Hes only the villain cause hes forcing the main characters to sacrifice as well. After endgame the universe went bsck to suffering Thanos really was 100% right.
This is my first video of you guys now imagine if you had to wait a year to watch the next one.
You can google the correct release order of the MCU :))
Thanos' logic was flawed. He believed that eliminating half of all life would allow the remainder to survive but he ignored the existence of ecosystems and the imbalancing effect it would have. Plus his snap didn't just eliminate consumers of resources, he also eliminated organic resources- plant and animal life etc.
James Gunn said that the last thing groot said was "Dad"
Also the stones don’t work with (worhtiness). They work with the will power of the one who wields it/them.

Thanos and Kingpin. Two of a kind. Very astute observation.
The silence in the theater was crazy when this movie ended
Thanos was right
Interesting factoid, in the comics Thor's biological mother is eventually revealed to be Gaia, or mother nature, Gaia also spawned a race of sentient tree people who reproduce by cloning/splitting. Making Groot and Thor half siblings. Making the handle moment even more touching
Thanos thought process is that the universes resources are finite and people will just soak up all the resources like what happened on his home planet. People will either die fighting for the finite resources or have to do half genocide to keep life going and in check of overpopulation. Everything he’s done is for the betterment and preservation of the universe in his eyes. He doesn’t let anything stop him from his goal, this movie paints him as the hero on a mission and that’s why he succeeds. The philosophy between him and the avengers is why they see each other as enemies. Avengers don’t trade lives or try their best not to for the betterment of people. Thanos trades lives for the betterment of the universe.
The opening night theater scene of this was something I will never get. I watched a 7pm showing and as soon as it was over me and my friend went to see a 10pm showing. First and only time I have watched a movie back to back like that in theaters. Then I went and saw it 2 more times next weekend.
thanos is 1000 year old alien who knows more than humans can imagine he is one of the most intelligent villain in Marvel universe
It's easy to be so overwhelmed by the entirety of the movie that you don't really have the chance to wrap your head around everything that happened with Thanos' snap. The end credit scene with Fury and Hill kind of give you a hint. Not only did the snap wipe out half of all living creatures in the entire universe, but there were also countless deaths as a result of those people disappearing. Imagine airliners with hundreds of people in the air. The pilot turns to dust, leaving whatever passengers not dusted to crash. People driving on the highways having to dodge cars, trucks, and semis, whose drivers have disappeared, becoming driverless missiles traveling at 70+ mph. People working in factories with dangerous chemicals would no doubt experience spills and chemical reactions due to the people working with them disappearing mid process. People in the middle of surgeries would have their nurses, doctors and surgeons disappear in the middle of a procedure, leaving them to bleed out on the operating table. In reality, the true cost of the snap was far more than just half. It could easily be argued that those who died in the snap got off easily compared to many of those left behind immediately after who either suffered gruesome deaths of their own, or had to deal with loved ones being inured or killed as a result of the fallout. Not to mention the emotional toll of seeing friends and loved ones disappear right in front of your eyes with no clue or what was happening. Just gone. No warning. No explanation. Your entire world just blows up in an instant. We do get to see in the next movie some of the aftereffects. It's not pretty. Great reaction! But have your tissues ready for the next one. Both for the beginning and the finish of End Game.
