  • In preparation for the turbos, we're installing the AAM stage 1 fuel return kit as well as an upgraded fuel pump and bigger injectors. Oh and an intake plenum spacer as well just for the lols.

    The reason for the plenum chamber being that shape inside and having the pipes bending off into banks of 3 on either side is to do with tuning the air flow. You can imagine the inside of the pipe is equivalent to the length of a trumpet on an ITB. Different lengths cause different changes in low down torque or high end power to due to differing resonant frequencies of air flow at different lengths (like a trombone). So this plenum with have likely been tuned for maximum driveability, from memory the DE or Rev up engines are quite torque heavy, whereas the later HR is higher power and a bit lower torque probably due to changes in the intake system.

    Thank you for this video. It gave me a good idea on what to expect with my fuel return system. Single turboing my vq right now and I have a CJM return kit. Quite a bit different than this one but I think it's generally the same concept.

    • @barnesdrb
      @barnesdrb 4 года назад

      @@tysni3781 The install was pretty straight forward but it will take some adjustments to your stock fuel bucket. There are some guides online that are kinda vague but if I can figure it out I think anyone can lol

    Really enjoy your vids, especially the build parts. Feels genuine and not so uptight as most of the channels out there.
    I'm in the process of travelling to the Uk and pick up a Z myself. hopefully the upcoming weekend if all goes well.
    Any pointers of where to start, If you would have done anything in a different order if starting over?
    As of now I feel like the way to go is to start with rack spacers, coilovers, diff (has a nismo unit now which is supposed to be better than the standard unit and adjustable but idk)
    then weight reduction and hydro. And a bunch of wheels and tyres ofcourse.
    Cheers mate, keep it up :)

    • @ChrisDrift
      @ChrisDrift  6 лет назад

      cheers, glad you enjoy :) as for the 350, yeah just stick coilovers on it and rack spacers (although I didn't have rack spacers for the first 6 months and it was still fine). I'd probably keep the nismo diff if I was you but yeah the stock handbrake is useless so if you want to be able to use a handbrake you're going to want to put a hydro in it. The other thing is the stock seats are pretty bad so look at getting some bucket seats if possible. Stripping out the metal and plastic stuff behind the seats is a good idea as you get way more room and save a bit of weight, but it does take a fair amount of work to get most of it out

    • @niklasmedk
      @niklasmedk 6 лет назад

      Yeah buckets are included in the weight reduction plan. And the not flopping about in the cabin plan...
      I have managed without handbrake corrections so far on previous cars, or had terrible e-brakes so that I have not been able to figure it out yet haha.
      But yeah the hydro will come eventually. Did the metal wall thingy behind the seats affect the rigidity much when you removed it? Or did you feel nothing?
      Trial and error will make this happen, and end my life economically.

      Yeah looking at the Plenum your motor looks quite healthy, not eating too much oil :) minor mods and better fuel with a map should see it near those numbers. Fingers crossed you may even push 300.

    You didn’t have to drill a hole in the new pressure regulator for turbo set up?

  • @yoshiz3396

    in my z my fuel pressure is like 35 psi when the car is at idle and my widebands read too lean it could be a bad fuel pump ?

    I just got the dw200 for my z but it doesnt seem to fit, it doesnt go in far enough to put that plastic end piece back on, any suggestions?

    • @ChrisDrift
      @ChrisDrift  5 лет назад +1

      oh yeah you have to file the notches on the plastic part that the pump sits in. If you look at any of the guides online for how to upgrade the fuel pump in a 350z you'll see what I mean

  • @Z33Garage
    @Z33Garage 6 лет назад

    I thought one needed to modify the swirl pot ( jet) in the fuel pump assembly to get the pump to make the correct pressure?

    • @ChrisDrift
      @ChrisDrift  6 лет назад +1

      Wasn't aware of that to be honest, but just done a bit of research on it. Seems like most people say its only if you have issues with the pressure at idle being too high, but ours seemed fine and obeyed what we set on the FPR. Will keep an eye on it though and see if the tuner reports any issues when they map it

    • @Z33Garage
      @Z33Garage 6 лет назад

      ChrisDrift thanks for the reply! Upon further thinking, I think what I wrote only applies if one keeps the factory FPR in the pump, and you guys replaced yours. Either way, great videos!

      Seemed to work fine while I had it yeah. Eventually got rid of the stock tank when I went twin turbo cos suffers from fuel surge due to it being a saddle tank. Still used the fuel rails and fittings from this kit though

  • @DoopmanHOV
    @DoopmanHOV 6 лет назад

    Considering it's just a spacer, and not actually the lower plenum spacer, your gains aren't going to be much at all. Since I don't know what your numbers were prior to these mods, I'd guess you'll only be seeing 10-15hp

    • @ChrisDrift
      @ChrisDrift  6 лет назад

      well that's the thing, I don't know what power it was making before that lol but yeah not expecting the plenum spacer to do much at all - like I said, it was just a case of may as well do it for how cheap and easy it is. Hopefully when we go FI it will make a little bit more of a difference but we'll see

    • @DoopmanHOV
      @DoopmanHOV 6 лет назад

      ChrisDrift I’m sure once you’re FI, the spacer will play a much bigger role in power gains. For what it’s worth, the lower plenum really wakes the VQ engine up. I guess if you’re going to be turbo though, that will wake it up too 😂
