What is the BEST Playstyle to Rank Up in Rocket League? Today we take a look into the question, should you ballchase or should you play passively. Many people believe the best way to play rocket league is to play with rotations, good positioning and passively. Other people think you need to ballchase to be good at rocket league. Today, we put this to the test. Toady, I ball chased in rocket league for 10 games and played passively in rocket league for 10 games. I wanted to find which was the best playstyle in rocket league and which playstyle wins more games in rocket league. This rocket league challenge was a lot of fun and helped me overall bring educational content about how to improve at rocket league to my channel, so if you are wanting any more rocket league challenges or rocket league social experiments, make sure to let me know in the comment section.
This is also a kinda how to improve in rocket league video, as it has the usual rocket league tips and rocket league tutorial type of content linked in, so while we might be moving away from that kinda content in the future the rocket league tips will continue through most of my content.

I just started watching your videos a couple months back and they are really helping me thank you!!
That clip starting @ 4:40 was absolutely dirty!
Playing Ground Game eg: dribbling and flicking off the ground VERSE Aerial and Air Game eg: ceiling shots and aerials
I like this
@@sausagedealer3061 but it kind of is because that just shows that both can be effective so this would be a test of what could be considered more effective. I've seen high level players who ballchase.
both of those are pretty situational, so it'd be kinda hard to make a video going for one specifically at a time
Ground game is more important than Aerial game cause it's needed in every game mode and it's safer for offense. Aerial game is needed for defense and scoring when the enemy has good defense.
Stupid suggestion. Anyone who’s remotely high ranked will agree
To improve your ball chasing. You need to go for the ball, even if you teammate is already going for it
ha 😐
thank you now i think im better than squishy
I ballchase on instinct and beat everyone to the ball which is a huge advantage if your passive your just wasting your time ballchasing is what makes them give away possession

Kind of insane how well the 2nd playstyle did even considering how much higher the ranks were when playing it. Really solidified that final conclusion. Nice vid Thany
Thank you good sir! Worked out pretty well haha
"So I have a skilled mechanical player..."

This works with I'd say diamond and up. Below I'm not so sure that players realize how to adapt to the playstyle of their companion.
Then it's your job to adapt to your teamates style

Plat and under just ball chase so doesn't work there
depend on situation of positioning other wise they work hate when that happen
@@d3lta1g I’m in gold. I very rarely encounter ball chasers, which I think is weird being that you go one rank down and it’s ball chase central.

How do I control the ball in the air when doing a off wall air dribble
Make sure your first touch is really light and keep your car somewhat beneath the ball. Try not to go supersonic with it until you know you have a clear path to the net. It works pretty well for me once I'm in the air.
Get gud

What you could do for a video is to try playing with a friend who is in a lower rank and try to find out what the best playstyle is you should use (as a higher level player) with your lower ranked friends, I think this is great bcs I like to play with my friend but they are like 3-4 ranks lower and the wiffs and all that :) , it’s sometimes hard to play with but maybe I just use a bad strat to play with them (i’m diamond 2 in ones, so you have a little more context), also love your vids and keep up the good work!
This is the video I've been waiting for :D
When you said, "to you" and then you sped by him I was like "to me" and then you said it. Made me chuckle. I like how calm you are man haha.
This would probably not be an easy experiment, but I'd like to see how this holds up with lower ranks. I'd predict staying passive will net you a massive advantage in the low ranks, since ball-chasing is already frequent, so playing passive would complement their playstyle.
Word of advise to someone who is lower rank. I'm plat 2 this is good stuff, but keep in mind if ur ganna ball chase and get agressive you gatta hit your shots. You cant just keep whiffing and especting to get one good shot. Passive is alot easier to get down for newer players trying to break out of G3
Dude... that was a great shot. You know which one I'm talking about. Great video!
Thank you sir, I too was pretty happy with it too
My idea is to coach someone up the ranks on video. The video would showcase what they've improved on between videos and would give everyone a look at similar mistakes they might be making and how they fixed the problem.
Love the BTS decal that u were using it looks fire 🔥
More content like this :)
Just to spice things up
U wonder if he should spend 100 hours on that 100$ training pack😂😂😂
Too many people in c1 think "playing fast" means committing to every open ball even slightly open which leads to tons of overcommitting and getting beat. If you want to rank up learn when to challenge, and when to stall so your teammate can recover. So many people in c1 do not understand how to play game poistionally
I think the idea is to be really good at both and alternate if you are solo queuing, being more fluid even in single matches instead of in between. Or get a buddy who you can develop a play style with.
Lol loved the vid man! I learned so much from this of the to-do’s and what not to do. Thank you!
Good test. However, I think 3v3 would be a better choice to try this because 2v2 is highly predicated on individual playmaking.
Also, I think the ballchasing style is easier to get into the "flow state" when you're playing. The passive style can cause you to hesitate too much. I would rather have a ballchaser on my team who has some awareness of their teammates but also attacks with no hesitation, no remorse, and no mercy. Players who strive to 100% stick to fixed rotations are not adaptive enough.
Definitely a player who has adaptability and awareness of their teammates is more important than whether they are an aggressive or passive style.
When are you going to start coaching!? I LOVED your GamersRdy course! I know you said you were working on getting into coaching, but I am an impatient person! Keep up the great work!
Edit: In other news, I actually LIKE teammates that ballchase because I KNOW what they are going to do, and my defense has SKYROCKETED because of it! What I don't like is players that can't decide WHAT they want to do. Half the time they ballchase, so I play defensively, but then randomly they will get super passive and then as soon as I add offensive pressure, they go back to ballchasing...
I have a video idea. Aerial play-style vs Grounded play style
Aerial play if executed properly is the way to play as your less predictable in the air with the ball
If you want to ballchase effectively, you cant really solo q. You cant trust your teammates that much. But if you have a friend thats good and knows the gameplan, it works so well
Why did you stop making your cooking tutorials? Your baked spaghetti was simply fantastic, and who can forget the fist time they made your famous triple chocolate cheesecake? It was a culinary masterpiece!
Are you ever going to continue that series?
Can u do a breezi flick tutorial
Thanovic when I’m trying to aerial I can never like dodge forwards in the air when I see you do it u can like dodge into the ball in the air
A question about ceiling shots. Is there any reason for jumping to the ceiling instead of driving up to the ceiling?
I'm doing a thing called (by me) tactical ballchase...basically it's more of an agressive style of playing where you try to touch the ball as much as you can and stay near it bur also have a game sense how or when to touch the ball not to give your opponent a free goal...you learn this by playing a lot...personally i've been stuck in diamond for a long time either ballchasing or sitting in a net and waiting for opponents mistake to get a free goal...neither worked...so i started to do this where i basically ballchase but think of what could happen and what are my chances to do something productive by touching the ball...so now...i'm still stuck in diamond
Jk...i'm stuck in champ xd
Do a demo heavy vs no bumps gameplay style.
Ayo I remember when u were at 10k subscribers bro keep up the fire videos and hard work ‼️
Lots of respect for u dawg. I hate how other rl youtubers are more popular because they make videos specifically for 8 year old kids cuz they think their gods. If only ppl knew u know more than bout anybody
yeah i wouldn’t mind my teammate ball chasing if the teammate was as good as you lmao
Great video :D
You're too smart to truly ball chase though.
Two things ballchasers never say;
"With this ball chase mentality, you have to be like 'trust!'"
"He gets the touch, wait for the second touch."
also, just for laughs
Me: just getting started adapting to my teammates play style, Goes 1 goal down. set for a comeback though.
Teammate: Forfeit
Such an underrated content creator
Aggressive if you notice quickly your teammates are playing pàssive. (Generally due to it being their first game on, being out paced, high/drunk, uncomfortable, etc)
Pàssive if you notice they can get the ball centered to you and are moving quite fast. (Generally they are very mechanical but can’t land that final shot into the net, they seem ball chasey so instead it’s better to sit back and let them be “in the zone” while you chill and defend then cover the angles they can’t.)
Did I miss anything?
I think that being patience its not playing slow all the time. For some situations you have to be speedy. But a suggestion i can give to you guys in order to rank up (im champ 2 but i think thats how i ranked up) is by fake challenging almost everything and chill a little bit waiting for the opponents mistakes
I actually played his training and it really helped thx thanovic
A lot of people don't realize that you can ballchase and be passive in the same game, though ballchasing is typically more effective and that's before I've even seen the video
Can you make a video about some attacking tactics in 3v3s? My friends and I mostly try to bounce the ball into the wall so it flies in front of the goal and someone just has to push it in. Was wondering for other ideas
Can u do a vid showcasing all ur car desings pls
Ball chase = learning from more mistakes
Then ur deliberately making mistakes
Love the content! Great to see how things took off! ❤️
Idea for a video: different playstyles per region? Pro or not just interested if there's much of a difference
What is that trail?
I like to be passive and defend the goal in order to look for a clear opening
I say in 2s and 3s you play smart. You gotta pay attention to your teammates when he goes back you go up when he goes up you go back to net. In 1s I play agro steal my enemy's boost and keep the pressure
thanks for all the tips, this is going to help me get into low plat
I will say it’s not really a fair comparison because the “passive” play style is your normal play style so you should have more wins with it. And also I wouldn’t call the way you played passive. Because passive to me would be much more defensive oriented and letting your teammates take almost every ball.
“How important is plays in the air” would be cool, aerial focused vs ground focused games,
In 1s the best playstyle is half half, trust me i tested it out myself and it was huge
To me: ballchasing is when you go for the ball nonstop, no matter what your teammates are doing... even if it means challenging your teammate and hitting the ball towards your own goal.
Hey Thanovic do u have any tips on shooting the ball?
What is the song that starts at 8:04. Really like the vibe. thank you. Best rocket league Channel 100%
This morning i actually just went sicko mode and started using air rolling in my aerial shots and almost did a super fast aerial shot with air rolling. I was on a losing streak and went off.
you went sicko mode lmao whats your rank
Uploading during your stream 😂 great work as always 🍻
Do car colors with anodized pearl or pearlescent paint finishes
Thanovic, what is your pc? Or is it custom made, if so nvm
You kinda conflated aggression and speed of play and decision making with ball chasing but this is a good showcase of the importance of quick thinking and reactions
Hey thanovic ,i really want to know how do you change the keybind in your freeplay,to change the reset ball button to other button? I cant seem to find the option to change it
I believe it's called reset shot
@@brennan2150 ay yo thank you brother
My philosophy is that its easier to speed up a play when you have possession than it is to slow down a play thats out of control.
How about playing ground ball vs playing more of a Ariel or air dribble style.
yea that would be good
@@ZyfoAI yeah I would enjoy it also
Could you please make a new 2v2 guide im Diamond 3 and been here for a long time not being able to make the jump to champ, i think the reason is more of my rotations and challenges that is holding me back I'd appreciate it alot
It feels like that you have to play more aggresively in ranks like diamond 2 and above, bc me and my mate get really frustrated with our defensive playstyle
The playstyle that works best for me is the playstyle where I actually play well.
If you do this video again you should alternate, that way for example if you went 10-0 in the ball chasing games it wouldn’t have had the mmr effect of being 60-100 mmr higher for the passive games, or 60-100 lower. It still won’t be perfect, but would be a more accurate representation, as well as being more warm or burnt out even for the 2nd half
That double touch off of the wall was nuts man
I have a friend that is the definition of ball chasing. Like, I can have the ball controlled, I'm driving towards their net, I'm about to do a flick and here he comes full speed sending me into their net and leaving the ball for them to do a counter when we are both in their net. Not blaming teammates because I'm plat and I have a fucking lot to improve but this thing is so basic that I can't understand. Like when you're playing football, if your friend has the ball you won't go and just push him away and get the ball. The worst part is that he thinks he's the better player in the world or something
This is why adapting to your tm8s is the best way to rank up.
no keep bumping team mate and whiffing is and blocking team mate shot best way and team mate call you trash that the best way
this was a really dope experiment. However, you seem to be a little biased as the passive playstyle is one that is more natural to you. What i believe is the most important and you mentioned it multiple times is adapting to your environment. The problem with a lot of aggressive players is they struggle to comprehend their teammates having the same mentality. This could also happen whilst being passive. Two passive people might not work too. Like you said in your video people would speed up their gameplay including you.
With that being said my conclusion is to observe the other player and fill in where the other lacks which is what you said but, being passive wouldn't necessarily be the best playstyle adapting is.
you should do a video of your gaming set up
When you play in a team ... work as a team . Look what your m8 does and adapt to and look how far you can push it . No matter what sport , a team should play as a team . Atleast if you wanna win . When your team mate has a weakness you can cover . Thats how a good team should work . Is your m8 always going for the ball? Then back him up if he misses
thanovic also naturally plays more passive and knows how to play it. im suresome people are way better playing aggressively
This is true, valid points sir
You can do that you play 10 games using quick chat for like everything and 10 games you dont use it. (2s)
This was a really wp ballchasing btw
you make kind of the same type of face expressions as me

Was running a tad late so yeah probably hahahah
Hey! I just hit plat I in 2S, and am gold III div 3 avg on 3s. I’m decent on defense and have gotten pretty good in aerial control lately especially in the trainings. I can hit about half of the shots in all star aerial. My big issue is I feel calm and easy in training but in competitive I always feel anxious and can’t stay calm. What would be a good way to train myself to work on that ? When I’m calm in game I can hit pretty decent shots. But if not I fall on my face a lot
the right answer? both. know when hold them, know when to fold them.
know when to walk away, know when to run you never count your money when your sittin at a table
Is there a code for your rules to ranking up course because I don’t got much money
How about 3s? I really do not know how to play 3s. I'm a passive type of player and I mainly play 2s but in 3s I find myself too slow to balls or just not making much contact with the ball
