Mistake number 1: Saying “tRaDe?” In the chat Edit: Since this has literally turned into a huge argument, this is the final conclusion: Stop asking for trades in matches, there are better places to ask for trades
I’ve been playing since November 2015, and I go up and down between Diamond 1 - Diamond 3, and I pride myself on my fundamentals, rotations, and positioning... but I’m ashamed that I didn’t figure this out on my own, I’ve been rotating ballside this whole time... 🤦🏻♂️... great video, well done, mate.
I see a lot of people in Plat being amazing at freestyling, and I even met a few people that used to be grand champ, but bc they think they're better than everyone in the lobby together they try to win alone, well guess what, they don't
Really liking the videos. Just started playing because it went free. I’ve watched other youtubers videos on basics/beginner’s mechanics and they talk about dribbling the ball, air precision, and other stuff that is too difficult for me at the moment. These videos are helping out a lot.
I am a low gc that has coached a lot of players. My core 5 for plat and below are: positioning, rotations, solid hits, momentum and boost management, and awareness. The last tip you gave is something that I didn’t learn until I was already c3, when a 1700 coach pointed out I was reading the ball not the players. Since then, almost nobody I coach thinks of this. I often ask what their thought process is in certain plays, and they often respond with scenarios that are impossible because of a cars positioning or boost amount. Learning this helped my positioning a ton and it is very underutilized
I was going to mention something about this as well. I've been playing about a year and a half and I'm Diamond 2, but while practicing air dribbles a few weeks ago, I came to the realization that I intently watch the ball the whole time. And I was like, why do I do that, the ball isn't going anywhere lol. And now I've noticed myself doing it in all situations. I mean, I obviously don't just stare at the ball, but it's mostly watching the ball, with occasional looks around the field. I'm working super hard on changing it, but when something gets so ingrained from doing it so long, it's super hard to break.
Cody Jackson this is super hard to break, and I’ve gotten to a point where I only really look at a ball when it’s being hit because when it’s not being hit, I know it’s path. I can look around and see players, boosts, etc instead. The best player imo to watch is Bluey. He almost never looks at the ball and plays a very interference based style. He always knows where it is but it’s clear that’s a side thought compared to what the opponents are doing
This is what I have been practicing for a while, and what I told my friend who is getting back into RL to start practicing. Now I can just share this video with him, thanks.
Same, I got it the day they made it free and aiming is a huge issue. I hate using up all my boost getting the shot perfect aligned only to miss the ball cause I needed to turn slightly. Its incredibly frustrating.
It’s all about hours played. Don’t expect to be RUclips good until you have like 10k hours played lol. Putting in work in practice and free play is the only “fast” way to get good. You don’t get to handle the ball enough in a normal game to really get a feel for it like you do in free play
The main (if not only) benefit of vibration has to do with boost management. When you are boosting, your controller vibrates. When you run out of boost, your controller no longer vibrates. It's one of those things that you don't realize how much you subconsciously rely on until your controller batteries get low and vibrate gets turned off. It's valuable to have some haptic feedback (oooh, fancy word that means touch & motion) so you don't have to rely completely on visual cues. Also, here's a small tip for your videos T...when talking about people using boost, use a boost that is SUPER OBVIOUS that it's being used. It's hard to tell if you're boosting or not (7:15 ish) when using Standard/Flamethrower/whatever that boost is because the "exhaust pipes" have the same color flame on them already. So use something that is way different and obvious to make it easier to see when it's on (you can use Bakkesmod to how it looks locally if you don't want to actually change it). TBH, pretty much any other boost would probably work, but the more ridiculous and obvious, the better for us viewers :) Oh, and of course, you could also add a controller or any kind of overlay that indicates more obviously when you're pressing boost (you could even tint the entire screen slightly red or something). Easy way to browse some boost options: rocketleague.fandom.com/wiki/Rocket_Boost Hope this helps!
Hey thanovic if you’re reading this I just wanna say thank you. A couple of weeks ago I was stuck in bronze 1 losing to a bunch of potatoes, I commented on one of your videos, you responded and two weeks after you’re advice, I’m in silver 2, thank you for being so in touch with your community.
Whole video is awesome, just after watching a couple of these from you I went on a winning streak and I am now sitting in platinum, but previously I was struggling to get out of gold
Two questions: 1) relative to positioning, is sitting in the goal a terrible idea then, because it leaves you too far from the action? I find that teammates rarely defend and it's usually up to me to go full defense to compensate 2) one thing that infuriates me is everybody charging headstrong toward the ball on the kickoff. Am I correct that this is poor form? I feel that only the closest 1-2 cars should go for it, with 1 staying back for defense and one (if playing 4v4) ready to read/play the bounce.
For those players that need boost tips, I got a tip. There is a bunch of boost pads straight down the middle of the game feild. So when you rotate back go your net, go straight down the middle of the feild, and get the boost you need to recover and save a shot.
I play with 2 of my friends. One of them is good the other one is really bad. The other day we decided to start playing competitive. It took me and the good friend 2 days to get to gold 2 but somehow, my bad friend went straight from unranked to gold 3 in 2 games...
In unranked u get more mmr (unit used to measure divisions) for example, u get normally 10mmr each win, and in unranked it is 15-40. And why u say good friend if its gold?
as a person who plays with controller vibrations I have a slight problem when you said playing with vibrations might make you mess up. Personally controller vibrations can help when for instance your looking around the field and are trying to keep an eye on where the ball or your opponent is, you can realize once your vibration turns off that means you need to go get boost. To make this more easy to understand, I'm saying that the vibrations can help you to know when you run out of boost instead of having to look to see if you have boost or not. And just personally when vibrations are off it just makes me feel like I'm not even holding the controller. It can also makes the controller feel Lifeless, Worthless and dead. I tried playing without vibrations on and my controller got very sad and depressed without it's fellow vibration, the controller told me it had no reason to live without it's dear old friend vibrations so I knew I had to go back to having vibrations on for the sake of my controller. So if you have been playing the game without vibrations, you should ask your controller if it has been suffering from a dark and deep dreadful depression, study shows that 9 out of every 10 controller suffer from loss of vibrations which can lead to memory loss and could make your controller useless. So with all this said, I would recommend keeping vibrations on as it will not just help you to know when your out of boost, but it can save you from having to lose the life of your beloved controller!
Growing up playing actual football, I’ve grown up with the idea that you should keep eyes on the ball, and not the player. I guess I try and implement what I’ve learnt irl into rl, and probably explained why I’m diamond....
idk about keeping your eyes on the ball.. qhen you're dribbling in rocket league and irl football you want to look up to see what you can play the ball too

@@phyrim7890 u wont get anything out of it if u stay in Gold and dont play ranked amymore. U wont get any rewards. Time ago u could do that but since a few seasons it isnt possible anymore.
The thing is that all those things Thanovic talk about being fundamentals are important, dont get me wrong, but in lower ranks, i feel like being able to take possension and not blast it all the time is the most important thing. Ive been stuck in lower ranks for a time until i started working on simple mechanics like fast aerialing and simple dribbles. If u can keep possension of the play, youll rank up so fast and get out of those lower end ranks
Honestly, I’ve only been playing for about 4 days? And I’m almost at silver and I find that I have better boost management than many of my higher ranked teammates
Mateo Jakešević, if it is low gold, most players aren’t gonna be competent, but maybe higher gold? I don’t think so honestly, which it’s hard to rank up in 3’s gold idk why tho.
Yo hold up that power slide top might be a game changer cause sometimes I go for an Ariel and am left completely out of position where I could’ve followed up on my teammates pass
Turning controller vibration off and turning off camera shake made everything easier. I’m not a pro by any means, but it was surprising to see how well it helped.
I absolutely love every single one of your car designs man I can’t wait til I get bakkas mod soon as I’m moving from console to pc! Love the vids man keep up ❤️
i’m a plat 1 possibly plat 2. and i play with vibration on... i don’t see what the problem is... it helps give me a general idea of how much boost i’ve used, how much momentum lost when hitting a player... should i turn this off or do people actually use this too?
I've been on the brink of champ 3 for a couple weeks now and have vibration turned up all the way Lmao, I like the feedback on the touch for certain movements
Bro thanks for the great video. I was making mistakes and not even realizing it. This video helped me to fix my mistakes. I just ranked up from following your tips!
Hi i am plat 2 and i never been stuck in any rank i watch lot of tutorials and i will summarize what i learn so far 1. Possesion don't play ping pong game booming the ball when you can have possasion is like passing to another team ofc you need to know when is time for possesion but in plat and lower you have so much open space 2. Rotate backpost this is very easy way to improve your defance drastically 3. If your airials are kind of " Sloppy" You need to realize that momentum is key to god airial and also i assume that you can't airroll properly so before going for airials it's very important to line up on the ground before taking of ground 4. Boost management especially in ones after kickoffs i see ppl winning kickoffs and immediately going for mid boost if you win the kickoffs you don't need to go for mid boost always instead you should go for pads near the ball or enemy corner boost 5. Open nets are hard right? yes but you need to realize that you have a more time then you think you have Line up yourself corectly and take a shot 6. Rotating wide this is Coralated with keeping your momentum and having better angle to hit ball on target you 7. Power shots this is advice for like gold level but if you want to hit ball with most power you should wait for it to bounce 8. "I will bang it of the wall with flip" This is very common in plat basically this is sitiuation when you side flip into ball near wall making weak touch and throwing yourself into very long recovery and giving easy ball to enemy this is not always bad but i have seen that a lot of pll just cannot resist doing that 9. Understanding you capabilities in lower ranks lot's of times ppl are going for balls that are out of their skill range and miss throwing themselves into bad position stay in a spot that gives you both chance to capitalize on your oponent mistake and allowing you to defend the shot 10. Understanding the threat and not panicking 11. Grinding, what i mean by that is that it's better to play more in one session rather then playing less in one session but more often reason why this a case is that you need to warm up it is very annoying knowing what your skill is and not beeing able to reach that level when you are playing like for hour you are often leaving pissed of on yourself by playing so bad but if you grind through this first 1 hour you will notice how much you're awarnes and skill are increased 12. Beeing toxic to your teammatea or giving "advice" To your teammates is not gonna win you matches you need to know that your teammatea are in the same rank as you and in lots of cases when they are not playing well is realated to their mentality and by being toxic you will certainly not make them play better have you ever ask yourself that maybe your toxic behavior has direct impact on your teammate abilities and trust to you I have more to say but this comment is already long so i will end it here I hope you found it helpfull if you have any questions i will try answer them And sorry for my English i am not native and still learning
It amazes me how these pros can tell how to angle their car to make sure it goes in especially the clip where he missed it and then jumped back up and hit it with the bottom of his car
This kinda thing is very helpful I'm in gold with no mechanical skill at all (I constantly miss the ball) but I am trying to get better at this kinda thing and as a result I'm nearly in plat
Finally someone other than me said that low ranks always try to aerial for balls and get mad when they miss. My doubles tm8 always do it. But I'm not saying there bad
I rarely miss and don't get mad when I do. Just say "I'm up" and if I miss I quickly say "missed" as soon as I realise I will miss and move on with no rage.

I got the game like a week ago and honestly I’m surprised of how I already learned most of these by myself! No joke...
Honestly, I’ve only been playing for about 4 days? And I’m almost at silver and I find that I have better boost management than many of my higher ranked teammates
You're unreal man! Excellent video, best guide I've seen so far!
me a gold: hey wait a min i do that 0-0
Yes, us golds are considered low rank in rocket league
Golds are average, which is why I am in gold.
Golds are still trash tbh
Mateo Jakešević, nah, just not that great.
Mateo Jakešević, if it is low gold, most players aren’t gonna be competent, but maybe higher gold? I don’t think so honestly, which it’s hard to rank up in 3’s gold idk why tho.
Yo hold up that power slide top might be a game changer cause sometimes I go for an Ariel and am left completely out of position where I could’ve followed up on my teammates pass
who else here because they just got the game because epic games bought it?
They bought it a year ago
@@hazzah-jbo7149 yeah I meant they just released it for free
Not me lol
@@Watashi_inc lol
N0T ME
I’ve seen tons of these but this video is the best!!!!
Ironic, even high diamonds don’t check their surroundings and just ball chase
Turning controller vibration off and turning off camera shake made everything easier. I’m not a pro by any means, but it was surprising to see how well it helped.
Me a champ 3: Ah yes 10 mistakes I make
Me a gc
lol so true
Tysm Thanovic for the information, btw in silver in 2s gold 2 in rumble and dropshot!
Dont forget the Number 1 Rule, DONT CELEBRATE TOO EARLY
Can someone explain why you need a seperate binding for air roll and air roll left? And also any tips for what to bind powerslide to?
Being able to just hold a button to air roll instead of a button + a direction makes some mechanics / movements easier (like half flipping)
Misha Kushnir ah makes sense, thanks
Hello 'first' comments
Hello fate. I said I would be on stream
Hello
Damn just missed it
8ball of no ideas left he’s still live
fIrSt
What decal re you using in the first clip? Looks nice. Also thanks for the tips
Nice video idea, could also be interesting to do one for champ and above.
4:28 thats a good one for me tkx for the tips
small boost pads are a little problem for fresh new player (me) 2 days/few hours
I absolutely love every single one of your car designs man I can’t wait til I get bakkas mod soon as I’m moving from console to pc! Love the vids man keep up ❤️
2:13 for me personally i still have controller vibration on because it feels much more real and comfortable to use. I have it on subtly tho
I’ve also completely associated boost amount with vibration so I never need to look at it
Plade yeah, but why
@Plade its not even that bad ive used both and high champ
to be honest changing my camera setting improved my gameplay like almost instantly THX!!!!
This helped me recognise a few mistakes i was still making without being considered the “low ranks” (diamond) so i really appreciate you making this
WOW you make some awesome shots , I have alot to learn.
I’ve been playing on and off since 2016, and i still didn’t know about 1 or 2 of these. Thanks 🙏
Very helpful! Especially with the power slide! I have like three hours in so I appreciate the tips and tricks. Thanks so much!
This was a great vid man
i’m a plat 1 possibly plat 2. and i play with vibration on... i don’t see what the problem is... it helps give me a general idea of how much boost i’ve used, how much momentum lost when hitting a player... should i turn this off or do people actually use this too?
I've been on the brink of champ 3 for a couple weeks now and have vibration turned up all the way Lmao, I like the feedback on the touch for certain movements
jsolorio909 exactly
7:25 just a small omission you need to hold R2 to stay on supersonic speed when you release boost
Thanks for the vid mate ;)
Hey thanovic are those earbuds compatible with ps4?
Thanks soo much you helped me a lot!!!😃😃
Is it worth it for me to switch my boost to square to r1? rn I have it on square with r1 as air roll right
Bro thanks for the great video. I was making mistakes and not even realizing it. This video helped me to fix my mistakes. I just ranked up from following your tips!
Hi i am plat 2 and i never been stuck in any rank i watch lot of tutorials and i will summarize what i learn so far
1. Possesion don't play ping pong game booming the ball when you can have possasion is like passing to another team ofc you need to know when is time for possesion but in plat and lower you have so much open space
2. Rotate backpost this is very easy way to improve your defance drastically
3. If your airials are kind of " Sloppy" You need to realize that momentum is key to god airial and also i assume that you can't airroll properly so before going for airials it's very important to line up on the ground before taking of ground
4. Boost management especially in ones after kickoffs i see ppl winning kickoffs and immediately going for mid boost if you win the kickoffs you don't need to go for mid boost always instead you should go for pads near the ball or enemy corner boost
5. Open nets are hard right? yes but you need to realize that you have a more time then you think you have
Line up yourself corectly and take a shot
6. Rotating wide this is Coralated with keeping your momentum and having better angle to hit ball on target you
7. Power shots this is advice for like gold level but if you want to hit ball with most power you should wait for it to bounce
8. "I will bang it of the wall with flip" This is very common in plat basically this is sitiuation when you side flip into ball near wall making weak touch and throwing yourself into very long recovery and giving easy ball to enemy this is not always bad but i have seen that a lot of pll just cannot resist doing that
9. Understanding you capabilities in lower ranks lot's of times ppl are going for balls that are out of their skill range and miss throwing themselves into bad position stay in a spot that gives you both chance to capitalize on your oponent mistake and allowing you to defend the shot
10. Understanding the threat and not panicking
11. Grinding, what i mean by that is that it's better to play more in one session rather then playing less in one session but more often reason why this a case is that you need to warm up it is very annoying knowing what your skill is and not beeing able to reach that level when you are playing like for hour you are often leaving pissed of on yourself by playing so bad but if you grind through this first 1 hour you will notice how much you're awarnes and skill are increased
12. Beeing toxic to your teammatea or giving "advice" To your teammates is not gonna win you matches you need to know that your teammatea are in the same rank as you and in lots of cases when they are not playing well is realated to their mentality and by being toxic you will certainly not make them play better have you ever ask yourself that maybe your toxic behavior has direct impact on your teammate abilities and trust to you
I have more to say but this comment is already long so i will end it here
I hope you found it helpfull if you have any questions i will try answer them
And sorry for my English i am not native and still learning
That power slide recovery tip is a game changer!
Plz may u do a vid for high ranks I’ve been on platinum 2 and 3 for over a month now. It’s too hard to rank up in platinum
It amazes me how these pros can tell how to angle their car to make sure it goes in especially the clip where he missed it and then jumped back up and hit it with the bottom of his car
This kinda thing is very helpful I'm in gold with no mechanical skill at all (I constantly miss the ball) but I am trying to get better at this kinda thing and as a result I'm nearly in plat
if u have side buttons on your mouse i would suggest rebinding powerslide to one of them it really helps
the map packs and training packs reallllly help
These are great tips, I will use more often, thanks 😊
Thank you so much 👍 this helped a lot, keep up the work💪
Finally someone other than me said that low ranks always try to aerial for balls and get mad when they miss. My doubles tm8 always do it. But I'm not saying there bad
I rarely miss and don't get mad when I do. Just say "I'm up" and if I miss I quickly say "missed" as soon as I realise I will miss and move on with no rage.
Thanks dude!
How do u toggle ball cam and switch back to car cam?
