I have done bios many times but always on mobo with code display led I am about to do this on an aorus b550 pro with not displays. I hadnt noticed the light next to the qflash button so thank you saves me an anxious time.
Gigabyte Aorus Pro AC B550 with Ryzen 5 5600x G.Skill 3600mhz CL16 Memory RTX2080ti. I did exactly as you instructed using the BIOS version that gave support to the motherboard for the new Ryzen 5000 CPUs from the manufacturer website. Q-Flash Plus light flashed for a couple minutes, then stopped entirely. I let it sit for 5minutes in total and checked that the PSU fan was off(not sure it ever came on as it's a Seasonic 850W that seems to not spin the fan unless it needs to for heat reasons). Anyway, I powered it off, removed the USB stick, powered it back on and now it's just cycling through the POST lights going through CPU quickly, onto DRAM for a little bit, then onto VGA and it hangs there. I never get a video output at all. It just keeps cycling like this endlessly. I know the GPU works as I've removed it repeatedly and placed it in my old 8700k machine with no issues. I'm at a loss as to what it could be at this point. I may try some other sticks of memory if I can find some. Any tips would be appreciated though. Thanks.

That's a great feature. I hope to see more manufacturers start adding in a way to be able to update the BIOS without certain main components included. After all a fair few mobos had to be updated when some Ryzen CPUs came out requiring users to use/borrow or even buy an older supported CPU just to be able to access the BIOS to start the upgrade in the first place.
Perfect, thank you so much! Worked with Gigabyte B550 Aorus Master. Renamed the file to GIGABYTE.bin and removed all other ones from the flash drive. I did remove the graphics card, RAM, SATA drives but kept CPU and NVMe drive installed. After the flashing of the BIOS LED the power supply fan did not stopped spinning. In the end, I switched off the power supply. On first boot the POST was followed by an 3-5 minutes BIOS installation process. Afterwards, I was able to access the BIOS and boot the system. 👍👍

@@ettoref2712 Not yet. I only purchased the PSU, a new case and NVME for now. But I'm waiting with the purchase as I wait for G.Skill to update their Reverse QVL list. And what about the power supply fan? Does that have to be rotating during the BIOS updating process? The LED associated with the BIOS button (after the button was depressed) began to pulsate indicating it was getting power, but the power supply fan wasn't whirling, indicating maybe no power from the ps was being generated. I panicked, and pulled the plug to the ps. Maybe the power used by the BIOS upgrade process was so small that insufficient heat was generated to signal the fan to turn on? Third the Mobo I tried was the ASUS version this one. I going to look at again the PSU now I have power tester, then I will what happens from there
Bros... my Gigabyte x570 Master manual said “do not have CPU/GPU etc installed” when doing Q-Flash Plus, but I was able to update the BIOS just fine with everything installed. 1. Follow instructions for FAT 32 format on flash drive 2. Follow instructions on extraction of BIOS and rename BIOS update to GIGABYTE.bin 3. Power Supply switch on - but Power to PC off. 4. Stick USB flash drive in. 5. Press the Q-Flash button and wait for it to power up the PC. You should see “00” on LED indicator on mobo. 6. Wait a few minutes - the Q-Flash LED should be blinking the whole time - along with USB stick LED. 7. Eventually, you’ll see monitor for to a Gigabyte BIOS update screen where it tells you the progress and warns you not to turn off the PC, etc. 8. BIOS update will complete and reboot. The monitor and GPU plugged in was great because it will take you to a BIOS UPDATE screen so you can see the progress of the BIOS update as it’s applied. Why you would not want this available and be completely in the dark is beyond me - and I find it stupid.
I just brought a B550 E gaming motherboard from Asus and have everything but a cpu. Is there a way to tel what bios version it came with out of the box ? Or should I just update the bios anyways ? New builder aha I’m wanting to buy a 5600x.
Excellent easy to follow video. Nice idea from Gigabyte to allow it to be done on a bare board. Any idea if I can update the BIOS on this board in a similar way, there's no button on the back of it. Gigabyte GA-A320M-S2H (rev. 2.0)
So... I did exactly this on a B550 Aorus Pro, after pressing the q flash plus button the orange led started blinking rapidly as in the video, but after a minute or so it stopped for a second and then started blinking again but very slowly, and the red dram led turned on, and both stayed like that. So I turned off the psu and re-did the whole thing again, but the exact same thing happened. I'm not sure if it is an error during the bios flash, but I suspect that what is happening is that when the bios finishes flashing the system is trying to power on and the dram led turns on because no ram is installed. I hope this is the case, I'll test if my 5800x works as soon as I receive my gpu...
@@arnoldlopez4917 Received my gpu some days early so I already completed my build. I DID THE BIOS FLASH WRONG. After installing everything the system didn't post, it got stuck on the vga red led. At first I tried different things that didn't work, and then thought maybe it was bios, so I watched some more guides about it and discovered I did it wrong, I managed to actually make it work: 1. I actually had all the pc built and connected, even the monitor and peripherals. 2. Rename the bios file to "GIGABYTE.bin". Put it in a FAT32 flash drive. 3. Shut down the system (but leave the power supply ON). 4. Put the flash drive in the white usb port. 5. Press and hold the q flash plus button until the orange led next to it starts blinking. 6. After some time of blinking rapidly, the orange led will stop for a second and then start blinking again but slowly, some red leds on the mobo may also light up. You have to keep waiting! (this was my error). The slow blinking means that it's still flashing, and it can take long (~10 min). 7. After some time, when the bios flashing actually finishes, the system will power up normally by itself, you'll see the whole orange led stripe on the mobo light up, and if you have a monitor connected you can go into bios etc...

Final test will be when the new pc is booting for the first time. When things go wrong it is a good idea to have a recovery plan. If your flash utility offers it, make a backup of your existing BIOS code. If this option is not available, download a copy of your current BIOS version or find a utility that will back up your current BIOS code. The original BIOS file should be on a bootable floppy with the flash utility and ready to install.

Thanks so much, I was going to build a computer from scratch up, following instructions from a magazine but they Never told you properly has to flash the BIOS nut no have seen your video I will have another. again thank you so much for showing this. 😀😊😊✨✨✨✨✨ your a star
@@GonexW First of all, I did not flash the Motherboard as I said before didn't understand how to, as it was not explained thoroughly in the magazine. Second there might be problem with the power supply as I could not detect if that was working or not but as far as I was concerned at the time it did not work. Third the Mobo I tried was the ASUS version this one. I going to look at again the PSU now I have power tester, then I will what happens from there
The title caught my eye, got me wondering what you were up to. Ok , I was wrong
Yes I've updated BIOS many times over the years..
I don't update like this, bit more of a risk involved
Thanks for the vid. Explained very well and easy to understand for all levels of computer builders.
Pretty useful, THANKS!
Thanks to you I can buy my B550 motherboard with no issues so I can flash the new BIOS for my 5600X correctly
The led just doesn’t turn on or do anythingggg, I have the flash drive on fat32 and I’ve renamed my file but doesn’t works :(
Look at the manual of your motherboard, do what it says, maybe yours doesn't need rename or needs something else to do
Someone said you need to read the readme.txt
Superb bro ...love it
I assume these are the same steps to follow if I am looking to buy a ryzen 5000 cpu?
Yes
Bros... my Gigabyte x570 Master manual said “do not have CPU/GPU etc installed” when doing Q-Flash Plus, but I was able to update the BIOS just fine with everything installed.
1. Follow instructions for FAT 32 format on flash drive
2. Follow instructions on extraction of BIOS and rename BIOS update to GIGABYTE.bin
How do you know what to rename your file, I can’t find it anywhere. My motherboard is an B550I Aorus Pro Ax.
thanks a lot for the tutorial!
weldone britec, what about asus rog strix b450 boards?
I just brought a B550 E gaming motherboard from Asus and have everything but a cpu. Is there a way to tel what bios version it came with out of the box ? Or should I just update the bios anyways ? New builder aha I’m wanting to buy a 5600x.
I too want to know this
Excellent easy to follow video.
I have the same B550 and I'm waiting for my processor too, is a 5600X. I hope your update work well, please reply when you try.
@@arnoldlopez4917 Received my gpu some days early so I already completed my build. I DID THE BIOS FLASH WRONG. After installing everything the system didn't post, it got stuck on the vga red led. At first I tried different things that didn't work, and then thought maybe it was bios, so I watched some more guides about it and discovered I did it wrong, I managed to actually make it work:
Did you already have a CPU like 3700 in the system when you did this or everything brand new and no windows installed yet?
@@PhilonPrim Everything was brand new, no windows installed yet or anything.
Thank you man!!! 🙌🏼
Very helpful, thank you!
Got a Zen 3 CPU and an Aorus Elite B550m coming. I'm assuming the motherboard won't properly recognize the CPU without a BIOS update? Should I just Q flash it for safety or will it power properly with the CPU already installed?
Omg, I can't believe it! It's THAT easy?! I bought a gigabyte aorus elite. Does it also have that button? I want to run it with a new ryzen 5000 cpu. It's correct that I can't before I flash it?
U have discord, I’ll help u see if u want?
@@elitesym1778 I did the flash by myself with this guidance. It worked pretty well and all is set up now! Thanks for offering help 😀
I did this and updated the bios and it kept blinking and then everything just rebooted does this mean that your bios updated successfully?
very useful, thank you!
I'm excited with my first ever pc build. All my parts r ready with d x570 crsshair impact mobo and 5900x.
I've seen from known reviewer that jumping straight to the latest version update of the board affects performance (not an asus board though), and should have done series of updates in order.
should i jump to flashing the bios update with v3003 or start from v2206 (or older versions than that depending on the mobo manufactured date)?
if i start from v2206 (or older), should i do same flashing steps without cpu for every versions until i reach v3003? or i can do those with ez flash (from v2311).
thanks and happy holidays everyone!
hey i am trying to upgrade my cpu and motherboard but from what I see the motherboard I chose does not have this button, I wanted to buy the Gigabyte A520 AORUS ELITE. Does it have the button? if not how do I do this anyways since I heard you need to with amd.
I bought a new CPU (i7 9700k) and my motherboard is MSI Z370 Tomahawk. I have never upgraded my BIOS since i bought my motherboard. Should i upgrade the BIOS before installing the new CPU or after installing it?
hello question, what happens when u use a mobo (b450 as an example) with a 3rd gen, specifically will it boot? (troubleshooting my pc rn)
Are you able to flash the bios with the CPU (5900X) installed, w/ ram etc? Ive got it all built ready to go I dont really want to take it apart again.. :)
I have the same question
@@Finlandiiish I successfully flashed the bios today! Took out CPU, RAM and un plugged everything. Better safe than sorry!
Is it safe to do this with all of the other hardware installed? Basically I set everything up only to encounter this issue, and I would rather not uninstall everything.
Its been 10 minuters my fan is still spinning cpu light is still red but my flash bios has stopped flashing(i presume its done). can i power it off?
Did it work, im going to be doing this to my b550 f gaming wifi board for a 5000 series amd and I'm crapping myself.
@@darkghost5770 I have the same board and im gonna try it after work. Lets hope it'll work out for us!
Have any of you guys figured it out, same thing happening with me.
Great tutorial! With your help I seemed to have updated my MSI B550 Gaming Carbon Wifi to the latest bios, but im still getting the same issue i had before bios update where the hardware looks on but won't boot to input to my monitor and my keyboard/mouse are not working either. The mouse rgb will flick on for a second then turn off so I don't think the usb ports are the issue. Thanks for the help!
I'm struggling with the SAME issue! I've tried different CPUs (Ryzen 5 1500x AND 5600g) and still yet no POST, no beep from the onboard speaker I bought. It's been a blank for 3 months now. HELP!!
@@troybarnette8002dude did u fix this ?
I had a great deal of trouble at first. The problem was every single NEW System Board I tried FAILED! I tried 3 or 4 new boards;yet, none of them worked. Not Until I bought a USED board--a Gigabyte B550m--did the BIOS update work. My PC's working fine now. @@Skyrimography
I’m trying to do this with my asus b550 f but I’m just getting a solid light. Any thoughts? I’m really freaking out
I have the same board and same problem, did you figure it out?
@@mr9oh939 nope. I installed everything else and am now realizing that none of my USB’s have power either. And I don’t have a graphics card so I can’t see if the system boots or not. I’ll let you know if I figure it out.
@@mr9oh939 solved it! The solition was pretty specific to my situation though. I was trying to download the update from a chromebook, and it wouldn’t let me change it from a .ZIP file to a .CAP file. Then I did it on a windows computer and it updated first try
I am using a Linux laptop to do the update, I will use a windows laptop and see if that helps, thanks!

You keep all of those files on the drive?
does this work if i already have ram and cpu installed?
I'm also wondering this.

Hey bro do you how to access advance settings in bios in hp laptop??
X570 pro aorus.
I had CPU gpu in
Added latest gigabyte.bin in root of USB fat 32
Pressed the flash even pressed few times don't start.
Do I need to hold it in till it starts it do I need CPU and gpu ram out
Not that anyone will see this but what if I had the flash drive in it had power and was flashing, I didn’t have the cpu plugged in. I turned it off but flipping the switch on the psu, plugged the cpu cable in flipped the power back on and flashed the bios again. Did it brick my mobo?
What do I do if I don’t have a bios flash
If I bought a b500 motherboard (Gigabyte B550I AORUS PRO AX) after zen 3 was released will I need to do this or can I just expect that the updated bios is already installed?
if it failed do u just pull it out or turn on the system and then off to unplug?? the manual says "reset the system" as since i didnt push the on button but power is still going thru i am unsure what it means.
Did i brick my mb?!
i left the exe on the flash did i run things? It's in another folder though...
Hey know this was 2 years ago but can i still do bios flashback with everything already installed?
In this video ...which version pendrive used for Q-flash plus ?
2.0 or 3.0 ?
how i update the bios in asus tuf A520m-plus , i have ryzen 5 5600G, my screen is black, nothing show:
have you found a fix?
So this is going to be my first pc build, what does FAT32 mean? Does it mean 32gb?
is it works with any model and with any brand?
Final test will be when the new pc is booting for the first time. When things go wrong it is a good idea to have a recovery plan. If your flash utility offers it, make a backup of your existing BIOS code. If this option is not available, download a copy of your current BIOS version or find a utility that will back up your current BIOS code. The original BIOS file should be on a bootable floppy with the flash utility and ready to install.
bootable floppy? are they still a thing lol
@@Britec09 well, this was a joke, it is of course a flash drive
Thanks a lot, you saved my day

I don’t have a q flash button. Would this not work for my motherboard?
I have a GIGABYTE Aorus Pro AC, what should I rename the file? The same GIGABYTE.bin? Also can I flash to BIOS F11d or should I first flash it to F10? Thanks
Did you find what to name it?
I went to format my usb and the only options are NTFS and exFAT. Will either of these work?
it does not,the rrason u have ntfs is you have a too big drive. The thumb drive which is bigger than 32gb will be NTFS! so make sure u have a 32gb one or less
Very unique, can this be done on laptops motherboard?
No
I screwed up and bought a ryzen 7 and paired it with the b450 tomahawk and didn't think of this so I'll have to do the bios as well, if I take these steps would I be able to continue to use the ryzen 7 without having to get another cpu just for the purpose of updating the bios to run with my ryzen 7?

For anyone with a gigiabyte motherboard the bios flash button could be anywhere on the mobo
Does this work for MSI B550-A PRO ATX AM4? I noticed it has that little button too. Can you please confirm?
