  • In this video we travel along the White Rim Trail in Utah. Although we had no plans of traveling along this route, we were fortunate enough to learn about this trail while we were in the Moab area and we were able to score a backcountry overnight permit to stay at one of the campsites.
    The views were absolutely astonishing in every direction. This video shows the first part of our travels on this trail.
    We hope you enjoy the video & are all healthy & safe!!!

    We've only been part way down White rim. From down Schafer switchbacks to Lathrop Canyon. Don't go past Lathrop Canyon, take that side route and go down to the river you won't regret it.
    I remember comments about the jackery that if it doesn't detect any variation in current draw for about 10 minutes it'll shut itself off. I know it sounds weird but when you described what was happening it triggered that memory.
    Good stuff you two, my wife and I do something similar in our Gladiator and you can see it at Black Pearl Voyager channel on youtube.

      On the route we took, I think you would be just fine. The only part of the trail we didn't experience, which unfortunately is likely the place you might have a problem is on the Schaffer switchbacks. But you can always go the long way around like we did, and you should be just fine. Good luck and hope you have a great time on your trip.

    Great trail. I did it solo in June of 2019, and the desert was amazing with all the blooms. I camped at Murphy B in a tent. The trail really isn't that difficult. I did it in a stock Tacoma TRD offroad, with stock tires. No problems at all. Rain would have changed all of that. Like every trail in southern Utah, it turns to gumbo in the rain, and even with MT tires you will really struggle if you are even able to move at all. It also gets really windy in the evenings up on top of Murphy. I had to kind of wrestle the tent getting it set up. I cooked on the tailboard of the truck with my trusty Coleman, a walmart cooler, Rubbermaid containers, and had a 7 gallon water cube. It was a blast. If you have even the most basic of rigs GO and do this trail. You certainly don't need a built up system to do this trip. Just go have fun. I loved it. PROTIP: When it's hot, bang on the door of the pit toilet before you open it. The rattle snake cooling off on the concrete will not be amused by your entrance...... Trust me on this one!!! lol

    • @larryboothby3687
      @larryboothby3687 2 года назад +1

      @@danielgriffith3633 My Tacoma has 9 inches of clearance and it did just fine. I'm not sure how much there is on your rig. There is only a couple of times I had it in 4 low. Going in the direction opposite of what the video shows, there was one small climb with ledges (that might be an issue), then Murphy Hogback which is just steep, and Hardscrabble which is also steep. With those exceptions, the rest of the trail is pretty much like Shafer. There is one spot where you could potentially have to cross water if the Green river is up. When I went it was a dry wash. You can check conditions there at the visitor center. Also, you don't have to do an overnight. They have day passes for the trail if you just want to get on part of it.

    White Rim is on my bucket list but will probably never get to do it. We did drive out as far as Musslemans arch once and have done the Schaffer switchbacks a couple of times. The entire area around Moab is so beautiful. Thanks for sharing your adventure. I love seeing the scenery and hearing other people give their take on what it’s like... It’s been 3 yrs now since we were last there and hope to get back in Fall of 2022...

    Enjoyed it! It can be very difficult to score a campsite or sites in Spring. We're doing the trip in April, so when reservations opened at 8am MT on November 10, 2021 I was on line. Picked the 3 sites we wanted, went to checkout, and they were no longer available. Tried again with two sites, at checkout, they were no longer available. Third try, picked the anther site and managed to get it. By 8:05 most of the sites were booked into June.

    You had some great skies that first day! Now waiting to hear about Day 2 and the 2 AM wakeup! I did White Rim last February and it was indeed awesome. Only saw a couple other people the whole time. Plan to go back on of these days and take it a littler slower... (though I already took it slower than you did, with 2 nights on the trail).

    Great trail, we ran it this past summer. Just a heads up that drone shot in the beginning going down the switchbacks is definitely on national park land.

    • @395jnky
      @395jnky  2 года назад

      Hi eric…Thanks for watching.
      Just to set the record straight, the switchbacks in the beginning are definitely not on national park land. The switchbacks I went down in this video were the Mineral Springs switchbacks. My guess is you’re mistaking the switchbacks I went down, for the Schafer Trail switchbacks which are indeed within the Canyonlands National Park. Happy Trails

    We did the White Rim Trail in late June and even though it was summer the temperature was not that hot. We had originally planned to do the whole loop but there was a closure at Hardscrabble Hill due to a rock slide so we had to do an in an out. Beautiful footage. Thanks for the video.
