I’m from the U.K. and saw Lake Michigan when I visited Chicago and I couldn’t figure out how a ‘lake’ can have waves and beaches. It behaves more like the sea.
Many things contribute. The wind, the moon etc

Yeah I was thinking the same. What caused such big waves. A storm. Then that won't happen often.
Went to South Haven last week. Appears they've lost 50-60' of beach. Not enough beach left for all the people who like to go there.
Is this walk in MI, WI, IN?
It really is a great loss. It's also a shame that it wasn't engineered to withstand Lake Michigan storms.

It isn't devastating. This is the water's fault people built too close to it?
It's almost as if the lake is invading the shore!
Years of poorly thought design implementation yield to the force of water eventually.
Like building below zero elevation or potential storm surge except here zero elevation varies naturally.
We need more science learning in public education. Might help. Might not. Depends on politicos I guess.
