Hi. Thank you. I have all the components it’s just the time needed to put together the next batch. I hope to get the next 100 sets made up in the next two weeks but I won’t be around to do the posting until I’m back from the USA in June. I expect to fulfil all the orders for those that asked for notification via the website before my travels in 12 days time.
There's a lot I like about this video: the warm personality of the photographer; the courteous way he treats his models; his obvious skill; and how he uses affordable equipment. In far too many RUclips tutorials, the photographer throws in as much high-end gear as advertisers are willing to pay for, regardless of the need of the photograph. Great job! You motivated me to be more creative.
This man's a pro, he really knows what he's doing, I was a news agency photographer for more than twenty years and I can see how supremely confident he is in his abilities, and how much he enjoys his work, how he knows how to improvise on his feet to suit the prevailing conditions to make the best of very ordinary locations he has to work with.
Thank you for your generous words. For taking the time to express your thoughts. I learned some aspects of my trade from watching you guys work. Shooting Kodak Ektapress beside me when I shot news for the BBC. Thinking on our feet is what we do and that’s where the sparks of creativity emerge.

THE most inspiring lighting video I've seen on youtube so far. Absolutely incredible. Always associated aiming the on camera speedlight at the model with unflattering flash. This blows my mind and totally changes the way I'll utilize my speedlights. Amazing.

Only an hour into this wonderful, insightful presentation of how to shoot with fairly basic equipment and get great results quickly. Damian cuts through the usual, over complicated explanations of irrelevant information and just tells it 'how it is', telling you just what you need to know. I'm looking forward to having the time to watch the remaining hour and a half. :-)

@@LovegroveTraining i should be the one saying thank you...love your work . i loved the behind the scenes wedding video you did watched that one too..kind of addictive and i have loads of respect for a photographer that can describe the picture to you before its taken.
I bought this from you when you came to Guernsey a few years ago. I’ve watched it many times and still do when I need a bit of inspiration. Really well presented and explained. Shows that you don’t necessarily need big expensive lighting set ups to get fantastic photos.
This is one of the best things I’ve watched on RUclips in awhile. I was looking for ways to make my wedding images have more flair to them by way of lighting and this gem passed thru my suggestions. Please extend my thanks to this amazing teacher. With so much trash on RUclips from people that can’t just show you how to do it it was nice finding this. Amazing.

This was monumentally helpful ... THANK YOU so much for these tutorials you provide - it's incredibly generous to us. This has made all the difference to understand this as a budding fashion photographer. Truly appreciate you and cannot wait to try all of this out today with my shoot!
This is fantastic, exactly what i needed to see! I am experimenting with flash after being a natural/available light shooter. To be honest the most impressive thing I see here is your relaxed composure towards experimenting with the light. I tend to panic when its not working as I feel it should and loose focus and get absorbed in fixing the issue. You continue to communicate with the subject/model while experimenting. Thank you for sharing!!! I need more practice with flash but most importantly need to be more relaxed when its going wrong :)
I agree with you, the most important lesson to be learned from this video is how to interact with the model. Explaining when you are trying something new, have the model relax when you're just doing test-shots. Staying out of the models personal space.
Absolutely one of the best speed light videos out here that I have seen! Very informative! I really like that most of the pictures were made without expensive modifiers! Your know how and creativity are the best tools! Thank you for sharing! I may watch it again!
Man, comparing this brand NEW Nikon D700 in 2009 to my own one in now 2020 it seems kinda surreal how worn it looks but still performs THAT GREAT and still is so fairly usable 10 years after its release. The hot shoe on mine is a bit moody by now though but aside from that it is still my all time favorite camera. Recently got the Z-System and I was shocked how well the D700 holds up to it. Man this flash lesson was one of the most straight to the point and valuable ones I ever seen on RUclips.
Thank you 2501. That D700 pulled the best out of my pro lenses of the day. The large D700 pixels kept the noise levels down and modern sensors have to use all sorts of signal processing to even get close. Yes, there may be more resolution in modern cameras but when the light levels drop the D700 comes into its own.

This video teaches you how to get great portrait images by breaking all the rules regarding flash, like using it on camera and using no modifiers whatsoever. Basically doing all the things other photographers tell you not to do. All this plus using expensive camera equipment without straps LOL, anyway great tutorial loved every minute of it.👏👏👏👏👏
Shooting speedlights without modifiers, and even on-camera, goes against everything what most people preach. I became a fan of harsh lighting when doing 1930's/1940's Hollywood glamour style along the lines of George Hurrell, but you have opened my eyes up to other styles and applications. A lot depends on the position of the speedlights, and the model's pose. The light, or more specifically the shadows, need to be just right to be effective so the angles of the light to the model and camera to model is important to get the desired results. I don't know whether to thank you or curse you as my mind is reeling with possibilities and I'm sure it will be spinning when I try to sleep of an evening.
Thank you Phil. I too like the Hollywood look as you can see here: www.lovegrovephotography.com/hollywood-portraits-gallery/ I prefer to call it hard light rather than harsh light but point taken. Light direction, angles, elevation and pose all play their part as you say. Now go and shoot :))
So Brilliant! Then it moved to shooting in Bristol, my home town and it went up a notch, inspiring to see how the space can be a backdrop. So much to take in and learn. Thanks man

I am one hour in and i have already learned so much. Amazing info! This is really the style of photography that I want to achieve especially profound contrasting lights and darks!!
Brilliant timing... Thank you for this tutorial.. I have only just decided to pull out all my old flashes from eBay.... and old 'Courteney Flash Meter'.. I finally got that working with a home made cable to trigger one flash at a time... With that meter you have to press a button to trigger the flash in order to get a reading.. There is a very brief window where that meter registers.. Using a radio trigger and pressing the button on the meter and press the Radio Trigger to try and catch the light at that brief 'window' where it registers is very hard.. You have to use a cable with that one.. unless you know of a radio trigger that the meter can connect to and then use the Meter Button to trigger the radio and flash the units.. At first I thought I would have to trigger all the flashes at once, but apparently not.. I see that people meter one at a time ! I can only trigger the older flashes that have the little hole for their respective trigger cables.. however Slaves would work trigger too... Those trigger cables that come with the meters vary at one end but all have the same connector at the other so I used the female connector from a broken radio trigger at one end of the cable to connect to those little cables.. The other end fits the Meter..
I will add,... Persevere... Save up... Buy the flashes that you can control with a 'Commander'.. I am not complaining... I will use what I have and I am grateful... but being able to control your flashes with a Commander is the way !

Thank you Stuart :)
Amazing.
Thank you Dan for your kind words. So pleased that you enjoyed it!
Since you shoot weddings Dan, you might be interested in the Big Day video: ruclips.net/video/vmB6cGjV-YQ/видео.html
Pretty old now but still worth a watch :)
I have watched this before and it still feels fresh... Well done, Damien!
Thank you Jose :)
P0ppppppppppppppppppppppppppp0pppp
this video is amazinggggg. screams professional! conscise straightforward no BS no acting or overselling. TOO GOOD LEARNING SO MUCH
Thank you Joseph :)
Man, this is awesome! Two hours and a half, should be 5 +, surely I wouldn´t stop watching!!! Well done!!
Thank you Francisco :)
Damian, just came across this video again. It’s one of my all-time favorites! Again, thank you for your calm demeanor detailed instruction, and being such a nice guy!
Thank you Wendy. You made my day :)
I am watching this the third time and I still feel like I am learning something new or something deeper. Would love to see more videos from you Damien. Love to see how you work both the communication with the model and the technical part. Excellent presentation.
Hi Gabriel, Thank you for your kind words. All my recent videos are here: lovegroveadventures.com/lovegrove-training-videos/
I post them to RUclips for free viewing when they become ten years old.
Kindest regards, Damien

This was monumentally helpful ... THANK YOU so much for these tutorials you provide - it's incredibly generous to us. This has made all the difference to understand this as a budding fashion photographer. Truly appreciate you and cannot wait to try all of this out today with my shoot!
Thank you ReAnn for the compliments :)
Thank you :)
This was better than going to the movie theater today! 🙌🏼🙌🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thank you. Move over Johnny Depp :)
That's definitely a fact
Yes indeed!
James Bond Mistry of flashes
That's hilarious- i'm in the same boat ftw
Watching again to see if RUclips stops suggesting it. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great video.
RUclips loves me Jorge :)) Thanks for the compliment. Damien.
Mastering is not true at all...
It's God level of Speedlight here !!! I'm so grateful for that work you shared. Please be my master ! :)
Thank you :)
This is very informative.. thank you.
Thanks Jojo
Lovegrove Adventures -welcome sir. Really appreciated. This is very helpful for us. Have a great day!
We love what you uploaded here. It's an eye opener to the possibilities of speedlights wiithout having the need of diffusers (in some cases).
Thank you Virginia :)
Absolutely one of the best speed light videos out here that I have seen! Very informative! I really like that most of the pictures were made without expensive modifiers! Your know how and creativity are the best tools! Thank you for sharing! I may watch it again!
Thank you Terrence :)
Excellent tutorial, thank you very much Damien
Cheers Paul. :)
Taking an already high end photography to another level
Thanks :)
Thank you for your lessons. You use only two simple Speedlight but you make amazing pictures.
Indeed ! No diffuser no umbrella no softbox for such some results ! Amazing

You my friend are amazing. Have just got my first speed light and watching vids to learn. Im only quarter of the way through and you have shown me so much already. Now i want to get a second speed light. Its nice to see what effects you can get in daylight without any modifiers and cant wait to try out your techniques. Was also a bonus seeing you do a shoot in my home town of Bristol.

I found this too late tonight, it is 12:44 AM and I need to go to bed. I thought it was 23 minutes long. Great work, back in 2009, and still rocking it 10 years later. I am going to get with a friend and try to recreate your lighting setups in the next few days. Thanks for sharing.

Love the video are you shooting in automatic or manual it’s hard for me to tell you don’t seem to have to adjust your focus at all. I shoot food and dance and these lighting techniques will definitely give my dancers some cool artistic options. With action shots getting sharp images is always a challenge and of course most dancers want sunset photos but with my speed light set up I should be able to get some beautiful shots. There is just confusion with focus. I shoot with 50mm prime and 100mm prime EfL canon. Any tips for sharpening my photos. Also Camara is canon 6ti soon to upgrade to mark 2.

Wow, just found this and what a fantastic resource. Getting back into photography and never really used flash much before but I plan to a lot more now. Great insight, great ideas showing what can be done and how to use the world outside as your studio. I read that you have upgraded your lighting but after the initial outlay of body and some quality glass, there is not a lot of money left in the pot. You have shown what great effects can be created on a fairly modest budget.
First time ever commenting on a video but well deserved. Thank you so much for the contribution.

Brilliant...one question as a newbie, how come Damien doesn’t seem to be bothered by max flash synch speed? I thought the Canons synch at about 160th
Wow thank you.
Check out HSS on Google to see how I get around max sync speed with flash :)
Kindest regards and respect, Damien.
OMG THIS WAS FANTASTIC! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS EXPERIENCE! After watching this, there is absolutely no one who can tell me i cant shoot amazing potraits outdoors without the use of huge bulky and expensive studio strobes. I have one key speedlight and thanks to you i will be purchasing another as a secondary kicker/rim light option ;)
Thanks Rogue, You are right. Just get out there and make pictures. Zoom your Speedlight in to the max and have fun.
Kindest regards, Damien
As others have said, WOW! Agree with the guy below, the most inspiring flash tutorial I have come across! You make it seem so easy! And use achievable equipment for amateurs as well. Amazing:)
Thank you for your kind words :)
Fantastic Damien. Some great information in this video and the Big Day tutorial. Thank you for sharing. Will definitely check out your latest tutorials now.
Thank you for the compliments Rob :)
I don't know who this beast is but man I tell you this, he needs to come out with a series called "Turning The Daylight off" - How to manipulate Daylight In Photography. I'd pay for the series, the book and consultation. There's tons of millennial "mastery" videos and new age "how to shoot in the sun" vids but this man shows the right way with detail to the nature of photography. I love the fact he shoots at different apretures and not just F2, F1.2. That F5.6 shot was ...crackin!
I think I must put Texas on my map again. I went through the pan handle on the 66 last time I was there. Thank you for taking the time out to leave such glowing reviews. I like you already :)
Best speed light video on youtube
Thank you so much for sharing this. This is THE best video I have ever seen about speedlights. This should be presented in every photography school! All this time I was scared of using bare flashes on anything else than rim light... I'm getting my gear ready right now I need to try this out!
Thank you Joel :)
Thank you so much.
With the RUclips speed set at 1.75x I learnt a lot and quicker than before.
🤣🤣🤣
amazing
Damian thank you for revealing the secrets how to become professional photographer with limited resources and how to solve practical problems
this knowledge is worth thousands
bravo
Thanks for your kind words :)
Fantastic work Damien, your the best , fab video and all the best from Ireland
I've been looking for such a tutorial for several months and I still wonder why I have just come across this video. all videos of sorts I've seen left much to be desired, but now I've found that very thing I needed. you've done amazing work, thank you so much!
Thank you very much for your kind words.
Such a useful video series. So much info and things to try. Thankyou for making and sharing.
You are welcome :)

Thank you Jeep. I hope you eventually got some sleep. Have fun creating your portraits :)
Damien.
This man is amazing! Photographer with a such a strong vision! Thank you so much for this treasure trove!
Thank you Miloš
This video teaches you how to get great portrait images by breaking all the rules regarding flash, like using it on camera and using no modifiers whatsoever. Basically doing all the things other photographers tell you not to do. All this plus using expensive camera equipment without straps LOL, anyway great tutorial loved every minute of it.👏👏👏👏👏
Thank you Stephen :)
Thanks man
Subscribed instantly after the first shooting. Great work!!!

In this video , we can see potentials of speedlight versus studio strobe.
Thank you again and again.
You and your job are brilliant.
You are welcome, thank you :)
I can across this video (and obviously just discovered about you) today. I'm very impressed great job, both in photography and teaching. Bravo!
Thank you Bruce :)
Totally Incredible! It looked so easy so I almost believed i could do the same thing for a short time...
It’s nice to watch someone who really knows his craft do his thing. He quickly looks at what he wants, and jumps to get the lights quickly up..
A few test shots, and he has it nailed. To us beginners, he looks like a wizard with his skills. Hope I can get that way in time......
Thank you John. Keep at it because a bit of success with your pictures will spur you on to keep improving. Stay inspired, Damien.
Lovegrove Adventures thank you sir. I will certainly be watching your channel for more ideas.

Such an incredible video! Thank you for the time you put into this!
Glad you enjoyed it Nolan :)
I am one hour in and i have already learned so much. Amazing info! This is really the style of photography that I want to achieve especially profound contrasting lights and darks!!
Thank you Jay. I hope you enjoy the rest of the production :)
I've got a Sekonic L308, and in "cordless mode" it gives you a good few seconds from pressing the meter button to firing the flashes.
What can I say, this is brilliant, thank you for posting. I need to get my speedlights out again!
Thanks for your kind words :)
A great teacher and a master of light, all so called tutors should watch him
Thank you Mike :)
The best set of training videos on You Tube. Can't thank you enough, absolutely brilliant 👌👌
Thank you John for the compliments :)
El Maestro ❗️. - I just learned more about lighting- watching you work bare speedlights ... just in AWE - as to what an amazing gift you have in teaching the art of light ... and of course photography ... which in fact IS the art of light
Thank you Mario :)
