  • Working on a beautiful 1988 Bluebird Wanderlodge WB. This bus is having intermittent DDEC issues, including the check engine light. We are going to attempt to repair this issue, spoiler alert, we do not get it totally fixed. Customer reported the light still flashes on and off occasionally. We will also fix a slow starting issue and the generator actuator stuck out on us while we were looking at it, so I repaired the electric linear actuator for the generator slide out tray. More to come on this bus, I think we are going to get another chance to see if we can resolve the check engine light issues.

Great video on some DDEC1 fixes and things to check.
Nice to see another 88 Silver Edition with mauve interior. But jealous that paint job looks incredible (not faded and neglected like mine😅).
Looking forward to the other videos

Thanks Tim, yes it looks like this bus was taken care of, that's for sure.

Valuable video! I recently acquired a 1989 WB and am up to my armpits in Bluebird Boot camp. This settled that mine has a DDEC 1. My problems with that so far have been the power and ground leads. Once all new batteries and tidied up connections, appears to be generally operational, still get occasional intermittent flashes on the check engine light. Thanks for the video!

Thanks for watching! Will see if we can figure out the intermittent issue. I am thinking it may still be the cannon plug, I now have a tool to release the pins so hopefully I can move the pin and see if that helps. I have heard that others had to run a separate new power wire to cure this issue.

I would love to pick your brain on a puzzling electrical question on the Bird. Ok to send you email? Might save me burning the whole thing down. We are in Oregon and little far to get some help in person:)

Did the removal of the felt pieces fix the starting problem? I'm kinda surprised someone thought that was a good idea...

Yes, it did. It was easy to overlook. I just happened to notice as I was disconnecting the batteries to test them.

You still based in Tenn? One of these days I got to figure out the gear lash on my LX engine and replace the super corroded formed metal compressor lines on the Cummins . Hoping that line will not be a big problem. Only pucker will be undoing the block fitting. Thinking heat? I should do it soon.

Not in Tennessee any time soon, still in Florida for another 7-8 years at least. Yea corroded parts are never fun. Heat is always a good start. Sometimes hitting it with an air hammer helps, but with corroded parts it difficult, since you do not want to destroy it.
