Magnet Comparison AlNiCo 5 vs AlNiCo 8 DiMarzio Tone Zone (Half Aired)

Two riffs. First time is AlNiCo 5 magnet, second riff is AlNiCo 8.

DiMarzio Tone Zone in a Fender Marauder. In efforts to reduce the low end, but retain thick mids, I have already half-aired the TZ, which means to replace the metal spacer with a non-conductive spacer (I used a scrap of insulated copper wire). This video shows the tonal and output difference between the original AlNiCo 5 magnet and a replacement AlNiCo 8 magnet - still half-aired. There is more upper midrange presence, more highs, and significant increase in output power, which is why the second clip is much more driven. Each sample uses the same strings, same distance between pickup and strings, same pick, same amp, same EQ and gain settings on the KT66 tube amp, same SM57 mic, etc...
