They should react to the original songs first than the other renditions later.. They also reacted to the Berklee students version of jiya jale. This rendition of dil se misses some power and drama that's in the original version

    • @a_simple_human_

@@MaryK02 yeah i understand. I don't mind them checking these versions but i just wanted to remind them with my comment that they should also listen to the original version on their own atleast if not for a reaction😅. I find Efra and waleska to be genuine reactors who also respect the music that they are listening to. As they are more curious on how our music style is what makes them probably watch more of the live versions i guess. So now people comments have made them understood that live and studio version are differently structured even though it's the same song. They are learning but yeah it will take time probably.

India has a studio industry, more than it being inherently live music oriented. People watch more movies than they visit music festivals and hence I would recommend you guys to check out more studio versions than the live ones. There's nothing wrong with these but they're more different than being similiar to the real jist of the song. Hope you consider this

The song "Dil Se" means "From the Heart" but as it was composed for the movie (by the same name), it would make more sense in context of the movie. The original music is very much in response to the setting of the movie. You should check out the original version of Chaaiya Chaiiya from the OST of Dil Se which is one of the many songs that made A. R. Rahman so famous.

We actually don't give that importance to MTV.
AR RAHMAN is from South India especially Tamil (Kollywood). Bollywood only has Hindi songs.
But he has did more to music than just mentioning as more to Tamil Music, though he contributed more to Tamil Music Industry.
He has composed for couple of Hollywood films too. And now he is into directing next generation movies ( introducing virtual movies ).
He doesn't write lyrics, except few accidental writings in Tamil.
Irrespective of any region from India, we just respect Him and LOVE him.

He is what we call a Music director of a film and in India, music directors are noticed and appreciated as they compose a melody, coordinate with the lyricist, select a playback singer and provide at least 4 to 5 tracks per movie according to the situations in the movie and the brief of director and also do the background music. Most of our music comes from movies and hence composers are recognized. AR Rahman is known all over India as he has worked in Industries both in the north and south.

Okay so to clear the confusion about Indian music industry, broadly there are 3 categories:
Lyricist: Gulzar (a legend esp. in poetry style), Javed Akhtar, Irshad Kamil, Prasoon Joshi, Amitabh Bhattacharya etc from Bollywood (Hindi language film industry), similarly there r many in other language film industry. Some of the songs which became masterpieces owe more to their lyrics than music.
Music composer or director: A.R. Rahman (predominately works in Kollywood/Tamil cinema and Bollywood, He is a singer too but his status as composer is of legend and more recognised), other famous Bollywood composers are R. D. Burman, Ilayaraja, Kishore Kumar, M. Kreem, Shankar Mahadevan, Pritam, Bappi Lahiri, Vishal Bharadwaj, Anu Malik, Amala Malik, Adnan Sami and some duos like Jatin-Lalit, Laxmikant-Pyarelal, Salim-Sulaiman, Sajid-Wajid, Sachin-Jigar, Vishal-Shekhar, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy etc. many of these have works from other language film industries also. Sorry I don’t know much about south film industries directors
Singers - they are well known to everyone, to u guys too. But let me mention some which u haven’t checked out yet. - KK, Mohit Chauhan, Sunidhi Chauhan, Mohammad Rafi, Kishore Kumar, Manna Dey, Asha Bhonsle, Jagjit Singh (famous for ghazals - a different music genre, checkout someday) Udit Narayan, Kumar Sanu, S P Balasubramaniam, Alka Yagnik, K.S. Chitra, Palak Muchhal, Ankit Tiwari, Mika Singh, Neeti Mohan. Recent pop ones are Badshah, Neha Kakkar, Tony Kakkar etc

Actually within the Indian film industry across regions/languages since film music is such an important part, Music producers/composers have always had a star status often above the status of the singers and equivalent to that of actors or directors. Which is why most music producers are pretty well known names and figures among the Indian public. AR rahman in fact can be called the most reluctant star among these because he was an incredibly shy person. But once his music overtook the Indian public and in fact the force of its impact was so huge from his first movie that he has gone beyond the reputation of other music producers to the extent that movies are often advertised as having a score by ar rahman much like you would see an actor being the star attraction of a movie. So his public figure status in a way is not something he actively tried to do, but a continuation of the status of music producers among indian audiences but also at the same time above and beyond the status of any other producer before or contemporary to him.
