Chris Blewitt deserves to be in the NFL and I think he's done more than enough to prove it. Also so does Matt Mengel but that's a different video for a different time.
Got humbled, re-invents himself and returns to the field adept, proving it over and over. He's def worth another look by the bigs, that 59 yarder was fire.
I grew up with Chris and hung out with him many times. Amazing dude, so funny and glad he’s getting his shot. We grew up down the road from the redskins and even though my buddy was a great QB, we knew Chris would be the one to make the NFL. He had a tough debut but he’ll make it back, he’s more than a kicker he’s a football player
Michigan Panthers kicker Bates will be in the NFL next season. He kicked two 64 yard field goals in the closing seconds to win the season opener. The next game he kicked a 62 & 58 yard field goal that seemed like they'd have been good 10 yards back. Last week he did kick a 62 yard field goal wide but it was raining.
Anyone else notice how like 90% of these were quite close to the left/right goalpost? Then from 59 he goes right down the middle. Just thought that was interesting :)
Exactly why I also like the XFL. Many players get a chance to excel and show their skill, and get a second look from, and maybe another chance from NFL scouts- to make it to the big show.
I watched this guys nfl debut when he was with Washington, I said to myself “this guys name is blewitt? this kick is for the win. If he misses announcers are gonna say; blewitt, blew it.”
same dude who got the game winning kick against Clemson in 2016, giving them their only loss that season, and their last home loss until SC just did that last year
Sadly not enough, you can blow a tests and job interviews too. That name has the possibility to haunt every aspect of his life. So better to just play into it.
I'm surprised he hasn't changed his name or adopted a 'stage name.' Just getting through mid-school with that kind of name. Maybe Grandpa Blewitt kick-started his goal seeking, spurring him on. You know the song "A Boy Named Sue"? --Lyrics by Shel Silverstein, sung by Johnny Cash.
EVERY athlete has off games, during Chris’s time with the Washington REDSKINS, only the REDSKINS management “blew it,” because they should never make a decision on cutting someone based on three or fewer games. There is too much money involved, too much talent gets those players there, to cut someone based on three games or fewer isn’t giving them time to adjust to everything. There is a story about a Ford employee getting a promotion and almost immediately making a blunder that cost Henry over a million dollars in the blink of an eye. When the media asked Henry if he was gonna fire the dude Henry said he couldn’t because he had already invested over a million dollars in training him and a replacement wouldn’t have learned that costly lesson……
This is going to be brutally honest sports fans and will probably piss a lot if not everyone off once I'm done writing this, but here we go anyway. The majority of the teams in the NFL have kickers who consistently kick 50+ yard field goals on a regular basis now and in a row without missing, it's nothing special and when it come to the NFL it is expected. Even 60 yarders are starting to become a regular thing in the NFL and is no longer a surprise when a kicker does put it through the goal posts at 60 or 60+ yards. Kickers in the NFL now practice kicking field goals at 70 yards and out. When it comes to out of 10 attempts from 70 the best ones will put 2, 3 or even 4 through the goal posts whereas the average kickers will put 0 to 1 if they're lucky from that distance. How many USFL kickers are kicking 50+, 60 and 60+ yard field goals on the regular again? It is being expected for NFL kickers to be able to do so and on a regular basis now. There is nothing special about these kickers in the USFL or this Blewit guy because they're not doing anything more than what NFL kickers are and have been doing for the past several decades when it comes to 50+ and 60 to 60+ yard field goals. To proclaim that the announcers in the USFL are silent in disbelief because of what this Blewit guy is doing is ridiculous and probably explains why they're announcing in the USFL and not the NFL because they think everything these USFL players are doing is something special and better in comparison to NFL players, these USFL players aren't even close to the level of play that even the worst NFL players are playing at. The announcers in the NFL wouldn't be impressed with what Blewit or any of these USFL kickers are doing because he/they're doing exactly what a kicker is being paid to do and expected to do, put the ball between the GOAL POSTS regardless of the distance. As to how many in a row he's made and what not again he's doing nothing special or in any way better than what NFL kickers do and have been doing for a long while now in this day and age.
as a former kicker 59 yards is incredible i kicked a 55 yard FG in college the goalposts looked a mile away and he kicked one 4 yards further than i did he deserves another chance in the NFL definitely
"couldn't get it up enough" -- yes, Jack will very much give one a case of the whiskies, won't it? Good on Chris for the redemption, hope that arc keeps right on going!
Vikings! The franchise that is screwed the most by kickers even though strangely enough Joseph had hit some great ones in recent history. If he could stay clutch going to the Vikings would be phenomenal for them
It's like his leg and foot go from being a 3 iron to a 9 iron. He can kick it as long as anyone with the 9. Put the 3 in the bag for good. You're a champ.
YOU BLEWITT could become a thing if he continues this way . The way the NFL treats kickers these days if he can get Three good years in he could be set for life .
That is one very tough position to play! You're either a HERO or a BUM...He's obviously worked hard to prefect his accuracy, in the USFL! Yes! I say welcome him back into the NFL! Good Luck and LACES OUT!🏈👌
I used to work events at Lucas Oil Stadium and one of the most popular features was a 30 yard field goal - OFF A TEE. I'm not exaggerating when I say that 98% of people who tried, never came close. I might be underestimating that figure. Almost no one ever hit it. And that's the ball on the 20 yard line, basically an XP. It's sooooo much harder than people think it is.
It seems like with the NFL, it's 1 and done. You had your shot and we're moving on. At least that's what they seem to do with quarterbacks. EDIT: Watch the documentary "The Brady 6" and you will see what I'm talking about.
That kick had 5 more yards of length on it at most. It was crushed sky high. One of yhe most powerful kicks Ive ever seen. That would tie the NFL record at 64 if it had that much on it.
Way back in high school we had a kicker that could make 60 yard field goals look easy. Mike just didn’t miss. Now those long field goals didn’t crop up during games due to the coaching. But he was always one to count on when the team needed him. We all thought he would go pro but from what I heard he didn’t have the grades. He had all the talent and for sure the best leg anybody has ever had.
He will be in the NFL and the Pro Bowl this upcoming year. He could possibly break the NFL record as he can kick a FG 70+ yds in the right circumstance
Could you turn the background music down? I have a hard enough time trying to listen to the video through my tinnitus without added noise and fake lyrics.
Pitt had a kicker named Blewitt and a QB named Pickett one their roster at the same time... Never could find a RB named Fumblitt...
That's hilarious
pitt panthers had blewitt and pickett, pittsburgh steelers have pickett and pittsburgh maulers have blewitt, that's a lot of pittsburgh 😳
Wasn’t their coach Phuckett?
the Colts have 2 O-lineman named French and Fries sometimes they line up next to each other
@@mikeoxlong1266 It's amazing!

Just needed a good coach.
Problem is, if you're just the 32rd best in the world the pros have no room for you
And players like him are exactly why the NFL should support the UFL.
This is exactly why these leagues are needed, to get more reps and improve their technique!
A Feeder and Recovery League is just what the NFL and NCAA need to keep them both from being a Monopoly .
@@cavachoncx777 But Espo scored the rebound.
So this is like the little leagues ?

Thank you it's refreshing to see the best in Athletes, having heart is sometimes enough.
Mental toughness. Well done young man. Down seven. Up eight.
thank god you put that strobing effect in there i was worried id be able to watch the video
Literally just started watching the UFL this year and my mind, this guy Blewitt. Bro hit 2 55+ field goals with plenty more to give

It would be a redemption story, considering his Senior Year (2016) he was only 10/17 on FGs as well as his 2/5 in 2021.
It ain’t easy being a kicker. Good for this guy.
Isaac mixing the Akira meme in with our usual special teams content? Immaculate.
What a name. And a good story. Good luck young man. Keep crushin' 'em straight!

I don't know - their running back - Jonathan Fumblehands - really need to bear some responsibility for their team playing so bad too.
Made the kick to give Clemson their only lass of 2016. They went on to win the National Championship. Highlight of his college career.
With a last name like Blewitt, you'd think he might have avoided sports in general.
Sadly not enough, you can blow a tests and job interviews too. That name has the possibility to haunt every aspect of his life. So better to just play into it.

Well, he at least avoided a career in porn, so he has that going for him.
