- A woman who allegedly scammed tenants out of their rent payments may have been at it for a long time, and one of her victims says she tried to warn police years ago.

I had a cousin that did the same thing to me, on my momma side of the family I heard they do stuff like this after it was done to me. She mailed my card to her address and when my taxes was received she had the card, activated it with my information, put a pin on the card, went to a ATM at a bank and withdraw $1000, and when I questioned her she said that was her fee. I would have never let her do my taxes for a $1000 lol, crazy stuff people would do for money and families are worst at it

A little tip. Write this down. Before you pay for your taxes and sign anything. Look over the forms carefully. Tell them to have your check mailed to your home first.
Read the forms again to make sure they didn't put their own bank account numbers on the tax forms. That means, the money goes to them.
They charge to print you their business check and they will take a cut off the top for what you agreed to pay, if you didn't have the money upfront. Make sure that agreed amount is on the Copies.
if you cant afford to pay your own tax. Find a free government tax preparer

Check should come straight from IRS to your house or your own bank account. If you didn’t have the money and they did your tax, then you pick the check up from them and expect the money that you (Agreed) to be deducted from the top. The green card definitely a scam, A real business not wasting time with green cards, Better off going to H&R Block or Have it done for free at local government tax agency. I seen people with decent paying job go to free agency to keep from paying. That’s more money in your pocket

From 2007-2010, I lived in subsidized housing and always paid my rent via money order. When I moved out, I didn't get my deposit back because the management company said that I didn't pay rent. I kept my receipts and all. Come to find out, the lady in the office was stealing tenant's rents. Idk what happened with that and I wish that I knew more to follow up. I was in my early 20s.
You should have gone to the housing authority that provided you with subsidized housing.
Omg this happened to me in my fam in 2021!we lived in government housing and my mom used to pay the rent every month and one day we got an eviction because we were behind 3,500 which was impossible cause we always paid each month thru money orders she kept all her receipts!turns out the managers were all hiring close friends and relatives and they would collectively pocket the money🤦🏽♀️luckily they were all caught and went to jail but when new management came they still tired to tell my mom she owed the money !like tf how !nope we got the hell out!just a bunch of crooks !

Exactly! Some of this is from not doing your due diligence and plain out laziness. Too much work to find a reputable tax preparer and sit wait on them to prepare your taxes. Too much work to go to a leasing office and file paperwork to rent an apartment or pay fees in person. These people were trying to do things the easy way and ended up paying for it dearly.
That’s bc a lot of them know it’s not legit , due to issues like credit , or insufficient income verification , these scammers will offer to help ppl who can’t get approved normally by getting them these apartments , they charge the fees and then make the documents and/or use a cpn to get the place . Sometimes it works so ppl are willing to pay them directly instead of the rental office

If you have kids and make below 30 or 40k (can't remember which) and use welfare you can get a tax refund that big. I have family that are working poor/or live below povertyline and they usually get refunds this large.
