Perfect timing! Just booked on NCL Encore Oct '22. Though it is impossible to plan, when Endicott Arm and Dawes Glacier are under spectacular weather, it is absolutely magical. I haven't seen Glacier Bay and will do it on this next cruise on Encore.
Hey John! That is so awesome!! Are you on the last sailing for Encore? I went on the last sailing 10/16/21 last year :) I was tempted to go on the 10/16/22 sailing as well but got some other vacations coming up soon! 100% agree on the weather, you never know, but Glacier Bay will amaze you especially if it's snowing, just wow! Can't wait to hear about your experience!! Please do message me after you get back!
@@CruisingWithJT I will message on Facebook for sure. I didn't get the last sailing. I saw it snow back in May on the Glacier Bay day. That was really nice. My August Ovation cruise had the best weather of the season (according to the crew).
This is exactly what kind of info I need to know! If I finally get to go to Alaska I would want to know the best views and most importantly how close your able to get or not was awesome info! Thanks JT!
Hey Lacrecia!! So happy to hear this is the kind of info you're looking for :) Alaska planning can be challenging so it's always good to know about your options and which one might make the most sense for you! I am planning on making some educational videos along with some fun videos including food and entertainment that I enjoyed as well onboard cruise ships, just to mix it up and have fun with it, stay tuned :)
On Princess Cruises we were very close to Dawes Glacier on my last two trips there, much closer than other lines would seem to suggest. Star Princess is an older and smaller ship which may have something to do with how close we got to the Glacier. On my last cruise the captain even bragged that it was the closest any Princess ship got to the glacier (I guess they keep records of such things). The English Captain said he was egged on to get closer by some British Royal on the ship. The program director explained all this that evening after the dinner show. Could have been a big, tall tale for our entertainment, but I personally could not believe how close we were to that glacier!
Wow! That is awesome to hear. I had no idea that Star Princess was able to get super close to Dawes Glacier. What you see in the video is really the closest we could get on Ovation or Quantum. I recommend Glacier Bay National park for your first cruise to Alaska for sure :) Do Dawes Glacier after you've seen Glacier Bay :)
Thanks for watching, Linda! I am glad this video helped you make a decision on which glacier itinerary to take next :) Stay tuned, I am planning on more videos in the near future, appreciate your support!
I've been to Alaska 3 times. Hubbard Glacier is the best glacier in Alaska, bigger, longer/wider and on a huge bay so no problem for the ship to get up close, and does a tremendous calving. September is our month because the ice is calving more due to the heat. Although the park is gorgeous, all their glaciers are very small compared with Hubbard. The Fjord glaciers are pretty disappointing after Hubbard and many problems even getting up them to see the glacier. We did a boat excursion getting picked up directly from the ship and were able to get very close to Dawes, but again, not as good as being able to stay aboard and see one. We would only consider an itinerary with Hubbard if we go again. Try Hubbard first and you will see.
Thanks for your insight! Hubbard glacier is on my list to see one day! Just need to find a ship exciting enough that goes there 😄 ship is more important to me personally than the destination.
I need to check out Celebrity’s Alaska itineraries. We didn’t know what we were doing when we went on our cruise - would have loved to have gone to Glacier Bay!
I’d love to go on Celebrity next, I heard that some of their itineraries even go to Hubbard Glacier which is massive and beautiful and a change of experience for me. Hopefully Celebrity does offer some to Glacier Bay though, it’s a must visit! 😍
I have been to glacier Bay two times and I wish I would’ve seen this video before I took a cruise that went to Endicott Arm and Dawes Glacier. We did see the glacier, but it was from a long distance away. The cruise to the glacier was really beautiful, but the view of the glacier was disappointing. The people that had booked the extra trip that took them closer to the glacier were disappointed to because it was canceled due to weather or wind.
Thank you for your feedback! I’m glad you’ve been to Glacier Bay! It wins 10 out of 10 times. I wish cruise lines would let folks know how far they really are from Dawes Glacier. Many times they don’t even make it! Appreciate you watching 😊
Hey Lisa! Royal Caribbean does offer this opportunity for Quantum of the Seas. You’ll want to go to your cruise planner account and book the excursion from there. The cost was $200 per person last time I checked! Have a great time and thank you for watching 😊
Great question! It doesn’t really matter what side you’re on since the ship turns at the glaciers and passes by the glaciers on both sides when you’re going and coming back. For other scenery, like mountains and waterfalls, again both sides are good. Getting a balcony in general is best. Hope that helps!
There aren't any separate excursions from cruise lines that get even closer to the glacier if Glacier Bay is already on your itinerary, but if you go on an itinerary with Dawes Glacier, it usually costs $200 per person, excursion lasts around 5-6 hours and drops you back to Juneau, and it gets you pretty close, like real close... it's worth it for sure, but I rather go to Glacier Bay anyway, more glaciers to see versus just one. Thanks for watching :)

For Itenary to Glacier Bay from Seattle what side of the ship is best for a balcony? Thanks

How much closer do you get with the separate excursions to the glacier vs staying on the ship in glacier bay?

@@CruisingWithJT oh ok. I thought all Cruises that stop in Juneau have access to the same excursion. Glacier Bay is the way to go then. Thanks
What about Hubbard Glacier?
Hey Dan! Hubbard Glacier is a great option as well. I personally have never been there so was only comparing my Glacier experiences to Alaska :)
