Wow. A great display of the ridiculous downforce and absence of weight in F1 vs GT. Brilliant demonstration. Theyre all balls out nuts fast, but this really showed some interesting differences.
Both my favorite motorsports in one video. Hearing both GT and F1 flybys gives me goosebumps. I'd freeze on the spot if this video also has motors and road cars. That's heaven.
@@pandabearguy1 the difference is gt3 cars are made for customer and privateer racing and unless you’re a manufacturer who tests and builds the car it only costs around $1m to purchase. Compare that with F1 which is well over 15 million pounds not to mention the insane r and d costs which can exceed over 50 million. There’s your 1 second.

It's interesting to me because it looks like they're actually quite close together until the right hander. I assume the GT is lifting like crazy to avoid flying off the track at that point.

In order to really get the feeling of formula One speed, you must watch top end speed breaking at 75 m to 30 km an hour into a hairpin, now that is some serious control.

In all honesty, those GT cars are holding their own! I'm sure those are a lot more of a handful through there then the F1 cars. This is coming from a die hard F1 fan btw.

The fact that the W11 was still able to post a faster lap around Spa (although not as an official record), while still having to follow regulations is just absurd. Just unlimited active aero alone and it would dumpster the 919 evo.
Awesome! Not enough attention is given to how quick modern GT cars are. A lot of F1 and prototype technology has filtered down so they're proper thorough-bred racers now. Not just a stripped out and lowered 911etc with a wing slapped on the back as they were not that long ago.

Yeah 1 second for one turn is insane. Fastest qualifying time at Spa (the track in the vid) for FIA GT that year (2009) was a 2:18.03, and the fastest for F1 that year was a 1:46.31. 30+ seconds! And GT is already pretty ridiculously fast, a sub 3 minute time would be pretty fast for a production car. The 2023 Civic Type R set a 2:52.1 for reference
There isn't much difference until they approach raidillon. This really exhibits the amazing aerodynamics and superior turning speed of F1 cars, able to take on these corners full throttle.
Now imagine in the next 10 years time, all of these beautiful sounds will be gone, all we'll hear is just sounds of electric whirring going around at high speeds without any emotions.

The Veyron already reached F1 top speed years ago and the Chiron beat it by a lot. But neither can take a corner even remotely as well as F1, due to aero. Which is why, in my opinion, talking about top speed is a gimmick and not really interesting.

It is NOT just about the top speed, kid. The aero differences is far greater than GT cars. Bugatti Chiron already surpass F1 top speed if im not wrong or forgot, but the aero of F1 cars is just really big.
I found out yesterday that the cars just go round and round in a loop. It's not just driving along a road for miles and miles, they actually keep going around one small loop.
It’s funny how fast they go and how perspecitve hides the reality of things. I have walked on the pit exit on the right - bottom to top. It’s a 3 mins walk, steepness of a staircase. And F1 does it in about a second...

I remember seeing a three-car demonstration once on tv, from Silverstone I think, where a normal sedan took off for a hot lap, then a touring car a while later, then Lauda in his F1 but not before he leisurely finished his cup of tea. Spoiler alert: Lauda won.
Down force is one of the things helpings the f1 take the corner faster, but overall the f1 is faster by default compared to a great, higer revs, higer torque, better tire compound

On one very short timed section, the F1 trips the timer at 2.21 second...the GT car 3.18. That is a huge difference. Today's F1 lap Spa in 1:45 - 1:50. (3.18÷2.21) × 1:50 would translate to a 2:38 second lap in GT1. Actually, the low speed corners at spa even things up, such that GT1 would lap in perhaps 2:10. Still, F1 is hugely faster. In another league.

There is nothing like being there in person, when the grid is coming into a hairpin. The entire sensory experience gives you chills.
The F1 cars look amazing going through the curve but the closeness in racing for the GT3 cars makes it far more exciting to watch in this clip

Down force is one of the things helpings the f1 take the corner faster, but overall the f1 is faster by default compared to a great, higer revs, higer torque, better tire compound
@@RodrigoRodriguezowl it's actually just more horsepower. I'd bet you the gt cars have the same or more torque than the f1 v8's, it's the horsepower that allows the f1 cars to do that high rpm.

The first article I could find suggested the Lotus 79 produced about 700lbs of downforce: with 1980s tyres, the ground effect cars clearly would not have the grip required to corner faster than a modern F1 car.

The fastest F1 car is 11 seconds quicker per lap than the fastest GT car.

@@martinzoellner6115 well end of the section of the track 1 goes 370km/h other 270... so the different is huge, F1 goes full throttle here, GT cars must lift the pedal a bit, and i didnt mentioned the G forces...
On one very short timed section, the F1 trips the timer at 2.21 second...the GT car 3.18. That is a huge difference. Today's F1 lap Spa in 1:45 - 1:50. (3.18÷2.21) × 1:50 would translate to a 2:38 second lap in GT1. Actually, the low speed corners at spa even things up, such that GT1 would lap in perhaps 2:10. Still, F1 is hugely faster. In another league.
