Technically, the top speed in Nascar is 212 mph by Bill Elliott back in 1987, the year before restrictor plates were introduced. This 212 mark was 3 mph off of the pole sitter for the Indy 500 that year. But we're talking a weight difference of 2000 lbs.
Top speed on Le Mans was 407 km/h or 251 mph. That was in 1988, set by a Peugeot prototype WM-P88 prototype. The difference being, these cars could also corner fast, on a real race track.
"After a few laps, the green light came from the pits to raise the pressure turbos and so the French driver reached speeds of over 400 km / h for several laps, with the maximum recorded speed of 405 km/h, but the stresses on the engine, combined with the previous problems, forced him to retire due to electrical problems, of cooling and turbo."

Also remember for top speeds they reach, the motogp bike would have the lowest corner speed before any straight where you measure the speed, meaning its actually accelerating from a much lower speed, it has more work to do down the straight, if you could somehow exit the corner at the same speeds as the cars the top speed could be even higher!

I would love to see how fast an F1 car or NASCAR could be if the rules were no longer in play. (FiA for F1 and NASCAR for NASCAR). It would be really neat to see what peak engineering would actually look like.
Well even with the same bodies and chassis. At least in tbe Gen 6 era for sure. It is estimated that just unrestricting the horsepower could send the cars well over 220mph at tracks like Daytona and Talledega so have said over 230mph. Now if you let them go crazy with aero too we could see 240mph or more who knows with the help of a drafting partner
Without rules they are not F1 cars anymore It would just be a prototype showcasing the best an automotive company could do And even faster would be if you remove humans out of the equation... 'drone' cars...how fast could an AI car go round a track?
With or without rules, F1 will always have way more downforce, are way lighter, and brake way harder and have way superior technology. It is an insult to compare F1 with NASCAR in any way, shape or form. Australia has a V8 Supercar category where even those cars are way quicker around most circuits than any NASCAR. It's crazy what they do with so little rubber. F1 tires are 720mm in diameter and 305mm wide in front and 405mm in rear. MotoGP uses a 120mm wide by 600mm diameter for the front, and 200mm by 690mm rear. So by comparison, for acceleration, motogp has less than 1/4 the width of the F1 car, and on top of that, the tire is curved, so they cant even use the full width at any given time. For cornering, the front tires are 1/5 the width, and smaller diameter. Its bonkers that MotoGP makes the times that they do. And dont sleep on WSBK. It might not be as prestigious, but their lap times are shockingly close to motoGP, only a few seconds a lap, lap records at Losail are 1:54.3 for motoGP vs 1:56.6 for WSBK. In a race, of course that's a ton of time, but consider its prototype vs homologation and it's insane. By comparison, (I'm looking at 2018 LaSarth) GTE cars were running more than 30 seconds slower than the LMP1 times of 3:15 per lap.

Good video. Might want to re check nascar top speeds they’ve been artificially limited seeing how the fastest lap was registered by Bill Elliot in the 80’s. There are rumors former nascar greats Rusty Wallace & Jeff Gordon at separate times had the restrictor plates removed and took off around Talledega and clocked average lap speeds above 230mph. The problem with those speeds come when you put 40 other cars out there at once, it’s no longer driver safety that’s the concern. The ability of the catch fence, safer barrier protecting the crowds is the concern. Watch the near future, with nascar viewing dwindling, they’ve began doing things they never would’ve 10 years ago(see dirt track @ Bristol) we may get a restrictor plate free race at Daytona or Talledega with average lap speeds above 230mph with twice the weight & half the tires.

Okay Scott. I have a bit of an issue with your theoretical lap times at Spa. Check the GTE cars pace at COTA, in comparison to the stock cars. There is no way the stock car would be that much slower at COTA (~5 seconds), yet somehow faster at Spa.
Stock cars are straight line menaces and have a substantial amount of horsepower. They also have massive brake disks. Oh, and he forgot to mention that the qualifying session he used was in the pouring rain. Look up Nascar Cota from this past year, it was messy.
But rallycross cars aren't circuit racing cars are they? To my knowledge they race on a combination of tarmac and dirt tracks. They're more rally cars than circuit race cars. At any rate a rallycross car is too slow in the top speed to have a chance against any of these circuit race cars.
The lap record of an LMP1 car (referred here as Hypercar) is 1:41.7. However, this record was not set during a race weekend but was part of the Porsche 919 evo's tribute series and was set in August 2018
My question actually is are they looking at the 550 or the 750 HP package. It makes a large difference as to how the car would perform at the track. Also, NASCAR runs tapered spacers to get them down to either HP. A true test would be without either of these. NASCAR cars without a tapered spacer can pull almost 900 HP, which gets them into comparable situations to LMP3 cars.
A Rallycross car does 0-100 in just under 2 seconds. Roughly the same as an LMP1 (Hyper Car). A Rallycross' top speed is about 125mph/200kph which makes it the slowest of the lot.
You forgot Japan SUPER GT !!! Fastest "normal" non LMP/Formula cars. 700HP, Over 1020 kg with driver and fuel and looooot of downforce. Faster then LMP2 at some tracks...
These are almost full fledged prototypes. I would rank them as close to LMP. And GT500 has more power than the old dtm, because it's class one chassis with a different engine formula. It's not exactly the same.
GT500 is faster than LMP2 period, they are even faster than the non hybrid LMP1 cars. There’s a comparison video between a non hybrid LMP1, GT500, GTE at FUJI. GT500 has 1:26 at FUJI, LMP2 has 1:30 at FUJI, not even close at all really. DTM is faster than GT3 and GTE, I don’t know why they have it below in this video? GT500 and DTM are really close. DTM is between GT500 and LMP2.
I know that we can't have all racing categories in this vid but I would like to se how a V8 supercar would preform against the other cars. And GT3 is way quicker than 250kph.
Would've been interesting to see LMP1 there as well, They were much more powerful than the new Hypercar class and I'm pretty sure they have more aero stuff as well.

Nice video :) One thing though, I spotted an error in the maths for the NASCAR theoretical Spa laptime. You divided the difference in the F1 and NASCAR COTA laptimes by the NASCAR laptime. The 27.6% value you got out is the percentage of time the F1 car's lap is compared to NASCAR. You should have put the F1 time (96.196) as the denominator, which would've resulted in a percentage of 38.2% which represents how much slower the NASCAR laptime is than the F1 laptime. This would have resulted in a NASCAR Spa theoretical lap time of 2:19.898. I mean it's obvious if you look at the fact that the F1 time round COTA is quicker than its Spa time and yet somehow NASCAR went round Spa faster than it did COTA.

It was probably the 750 since he used COTA as the example. But COTA was also rained out for most of that weekend, so it’s not a great source.
I think I saw somewhere that a 900 hp no tapered spacer next gen car could go upwards of 220 mph+

A Rallycross car does 0-100 in just under 2 seconds. Roughly the same as an LMP1 (Hyper Car). A Rallycross' top speed is about 125mph/200kph which makes it the slowest of the lot.
5:21 "Professional driver on a closed course. Do not attempt."
Oh man! I was so tempted to attempt it ;) ;)
I believe he took the footage from some clip, perhaps an ad, that already had the disclaimer.
@@ivan_pozdeev_u Yes, I think you're right. But it's funny anyway... ;)
This is a really great video. Very well thought out...
You forgot Japan SUPER GT !!! Fastest "normal" non LMP/Formula cars. 700HP, Over 1020 kg with driver and fuel and looooot of downforce. Faster then LMP2 at some tracks...
Super Gt only has 2 classes, namely, Gt500(class one or the old dtm regulations) and gt300(which is very similar to fia gt3)
These are almost full fledged prototypes. I would rank them as close to LMP.
And GT500 has more power than the old dtm, because it's class one chassis with a different engine formula. It's not exactly the same.
@Rachel Wood nope, Super GT500 is definetly faster, 700HP + aero... btw. 2017 Hockenheimring demo, fastest Super GT @ Kovalainen 1:29.8 vs. 1:31.760 fastest DTM @ Mike Rockenfeller...
Rate them for the fun and excitement factor. MotoGP will beat them all. 😎
Just wait for Le mans 2023...
Definitely, hands down. So much more fun & engaging.

Moto gp and eau rouge sounds like a safe combo
I know that we can't have all racing categories in this vid but I would like to se how a V8 supercar would preform against the other cars.
And GT3 is way quicker than 250kph.
It could be similar to the DTM i think. Maybe better than the Nascar.
Top-fuel drag cars should be in the mix! 😁
@@trekkeruss Hillclimb machines also 😁
He had Nascar outperforming GT3 at Spa and somehow I highly doubt thats the truth.
I’ve always wondered this! Great video!
Nah terrible video, dozens of mistakes and the calculations are wayyyyy off
Would've been interesting to see LMP1 there as well, They were much more powerful than the new Hypercar class and I'm pretty sure they have more aero stuff as well.
I was wondering why he's referring to LMP1 as Hypercar, so thanks for your comment! Didn't know LMP1 got replaced
This guy has literally taught my country American ass everything about F1 racing period love this channel
As a UK F1 fan I love your comment. F1 is an odd beast but honestly the noise before the hybrid engines was car porn. The last year at Spa we went - the noise was unbelievable - I think F1 has lost a lot whilst still being a technical masterpiece. NASCAR is actually top of my American racing bucket-list - seems way more fun and having played stuff like Gran Turismo when younger have a much better appreciation for it!
@@dawnguard6472 hell yeah i guess im just new to racing ima football and basketball fan but me getting into fixing my car and just learning, the first race i seen was 1990 japan gp on YT and i been hooked since about 2018 so idk im doing my research watching clips and seasons....i have to say this is the most fascinating sport in history cause of the engineering, brain and bronze mentallty you need, i like that work to get better.........and show results its different from US big 3 sports (NFL, NBA, MLB)
2019 COTA it was Bottas who took pole with a time of 1:32.029, Leclerc's time was 1:32.137
I like it when different car types compete in the same race. I loved seeing a NASCAR compete at Le Mans. I'd love to see races with formula cars, prototypes, stock cars, and GT cars all racing on the same track.
7:44 Best Bit!
Jokes aside this was a cracking video , enjoyed it !
*REEEEEEEE*
I mean if you’re going to do the quarter mile straight: Dragsters and Funny Cars.
Literally just those.
Damn right. Not even close. I think it would be hilarious to see a Top Fuel Dragster try Le Mans or something and get refueled every half mile or so! :)
I think they might need a new clutch ever 6 starts or so. So they also might do better to just literally idle around the track as well as they can.
I would take some of the GT3 and GTE info with a big grain of salt as that GT3 and GTE can have up to the same 600Hp. Secondly, the "LMP2" car that you were showing was actually an LMP1 car, if we want to be more exact the Alpine LMP1.
Formula 1 speed compared to other race "car"
MotoGP bikes: *Uhhh guess im a car now :D*
6:54 motogp is faster than NASCAR at COTA. Marquez did a 2:03 at COTA in 2014, 9 seconds faster than the NASCAR time at COTA that you mentioned.
No one cares

@@markcook3570 who asked?
I'm glad I found this channel your videos are very interesting and very good. Huge Michael Schumacher fan here
this is an interesting video but a lot of what is said in voiceover and a lot of the shown clips are filled with inaccuracies
The comment we are looking for is right here
Then there’s haas in a league of its own
As far as I know, formula 1 are about acceleration and cornering, not about top speed
I love this video. I really wanna see more of this type. seeing MotoGP in the mix was especially fun
Where have you got your top speed numbers from? 240km/h for GT3 isn't right. Take the audi r8 lms gt3 for an example, it has a top speed of 305km/h.
Yea, and Aston Martin 290km/h
BOP race pace these days the cars tick 270k.
IMSA doesn’t show the top speed in their results anymore but the last time they did in 2018 at Daytona the fastest top speeds by the gt3 and gte cars were 294 and 299.
@@takenoprisoners6604 idk about Daytona as the banking allows the cars to go a higher top speed
@@spforza6522 I suppose whether its in practice or qualifying everyone reaching those speeds are getting at least some help from a slipstream too. Just an example that they much capably of going well over 240.
2:49 set play speed to 0.25 it's an enthralling race!
Nice video :)
One thing though, I spotted an error in the maths for the NASCAR theoretical Spa laptime.
Finally a comment on this mistake into which was put proper thought instead of random speculation.
