The best players never worry about their defender. They look for who the help defenders are because they know they can get by their defender whenever they want. Harden, curry, and cp3 are some of the best at doing this
Lucas Kim That’s when like Harden who probably does this the most is call a screen and force a switch on a worse defender. If you watch the Rockets offense Harden calls screens so he can get the worst defender on the floor then isos and scores
Dagsmd Kyries different he uses like 5-10 moves and takes a lot of tough shots. Kyrie is unguardable but he’s not the best example of this. Steph, harden, and cp3 are gonna hit you with 2-3 moves and create space for a shot
Not sure if this helps but I PERSONALLY pretend that on ball defender doesn't exist because they are all guessing where I wanna go. Its always between me and the help defender
yoooo what do y'all mean by pretending like the on ball defender is not there? I wanna improve my reading game so I'm gathering up as many tips as possible
@@tei5143 yeah as someone who is naturally gifted on defense players who pretend I'm "not there" when I'm on ball get their cookies stolen, a good lockdown defender doesnt need help so you should be reading the court for a pass against a weaker help defender.
This is why i love defense so much. I never bother trying to actually stop the ball carrier. I just determine what’s the least damaging thing i can allow him to do, and then attack him the way i have determined disrupts his goals the best. This takes the guess Game off of me, and basically makes it a Game of him guessing WHAT I’m committing to stopping(like a lane, or the 3 ball). So they can either be dumb enough to try my full commitment (and likely get stopped), or they can take what I’m giving and hope they know what it was. My defensive attention fakes , defensive position fakes, body language fakes, and awareness is my main strengths.
Realized this midgame one time, first time i really was able score layups in traffic. Cos in pickup you usually only care about your man so many people don't learn this skill

I haven’t played ball for the whole quarantine lost a lot of my reading my defender plays and this video have regained most of my memory and thank you.
Loved the vid. Definitely had moments where I realized I could improve, but things I already do. Also made me think about defensive positioning as well.
@1:50 Kyrie drove because the defender was a big who can't guard him. So he got him with a shot fake and blew by him. The help defenders were spaced too far to help and kuzma would not leave #27 under the rim so kyrie finished. And he used the rim to protect from the test blocker. Its not about when to drive, its why to drive. And what can happen if you do, and how to react to get an easy shot. With god enough handles and footwork and a threatening shot, you can drive whenever you want.
The only reason why I only know why to drive is because I just see a lane or I see a big enough gap for me to get through 2 defenders and I know a low ball pick up or a high ball pick up will get me through it but this video made me realize my strategy is only going to work in street all lol
Damn you give me a terrific advice ! This is the best way to score more ! Thanks man really appreciated what you tell . Hope you keep on telling more Details about basketball, coz real Hooper always wait and watch vids ! Can't wait to see what next 😎👌👌
You'd think that the best offensive players would be great defenders too cause they'd naturally apply these techniques to themselves on defense, but not always the case.
Sir.. good day.. im from the Philippines.. i just want to ask if you can have a video of ben wallace.. maybe i can learn how to play defence like him..thank you
If a defender is square to you, you make them commit to a side by attacking it with a jab or dribble move, and then you can either use their momentum against them when they try and beat you to the spot (snatchback, stepback, sidestep, etc...) or you can change directions and attack the top foot (crossover, Eurostep, etc...)
This advice is outdated and it disempowers you as a offensive wing player and it also complicates things. So if the paint is not open, you're basically screwed as a offensive wing player basically is what you're saying. All a defense has to do is press up on you and pack the paint with 1 or 2 players to stop you. You don't ever want to limit yourself as a offensive player and watching to see if the paint is open to drive is a limitation because you're depending on the D to let the paint be open so you can drive. Sometimes you will have to drive in on help defense. James Harden does this very well. James Harden will use a euro step on a player that is in the middle of the paint and James will use a floater if the 2nd Defender is near the hoop on his drive. Then James will initiate contact on help d when they are trying to recover to him to block his shot. Then if you have floor spacing because of shooters (which James has), you wont even really need a good 2nd move on the Help D because they won't be there to help because of your teams shooters.
I just wanna be an elite finisher and finish off that little bump. 6'3, did track and have a 29-30 inch vertical so clearly im not super unathletic or anything. I get past my man and i miss the layup, shit is annoying
@@ByAnyMeansBasketball i take that back. this is how u decide to drive if you drive based on openings. If u develop the ability to drive at will, then openings don't dictate your drive unless its just wide open. Kyrie drive whenever he gets good and ready. Exactly. In a game, 1 on 1 defence is much worse because the defender can't predict what you're going to do.

1. Survey d.
If paint is clear, if help d doesn't pay attention - drive.
2. USE MOMENTUM OF DEFENDER AGAINST THEM.
