    The best players never worry about their defender. They look for who the help defenders are because they know they can get by their defender whenever they want. Harden, curry, and cp3 are some of the best at doing this

      Lucas Kim That’s when like Harden who probably does this the most is call a screen and force a switch on a worse defender. If you watch the Rockets offense Harden calls screens so he can get the worst defender on the floor then isos and scores

      This is why i love defense so much.
      I never bother trying to actually stop the ball carrier.
      I just determine what’s the least damaging thing i can allow him to do, and then attack him the way i have determined disrupts his goals the best.
      This takes the guess Game off of me, and basically makes it a Game of him guessing WHAT I’m committing to stopping(like a lane, or the 3 ball). So they can either be dumb enough to try my full commitment (and likely get stopped), or they can take what I’m giving and hope they know what it was.
      My defensive attention fakes , defensive position fakes, body language fakes, and awareness is my main strengths.

    @1:50 Kyrie drove because the defender was a big who can't guard him. So he got him with a shot fake and blew by him. The help defenders were spaced too far to help and kuzma would not leave #27 under the rim so kyrie finished. And he used the rim to protect from the test blocker.
    Its not about when to drive, its why to drive. And what can happen if you do, and how to react to get an easy shot. With god enough handles and footwork and a threatening shot, you can drive whenever you want.

      If a defender is square to you, you make them commit to a side by attacking it with a jab or dribble move, and then you can either use their momentum against them when they try and beat you to the spot (snatchback, stepback, sidestep, etc...) or you can change directions and attack the top foot (crossover, Eurostep, etc...)

    This advice is outdated and it disempowers you as a offensive wing player and it also complicates things. So if the paint is not open, you're basically screwed as a offensive wing player basically is what you're saying. All a defense has to do is press up on you and pack the paint with 1 or 2 players to stop you. You don't ever want to limit yourself as a offensive player and watching to see if the paint is open to drive is a limitation because you're depending on the D to let the paint be open so you can drive. Sometimes you will have to drive in on help defense. James Harden does this very well. James Harden will use a euro step on a player that is in the middle of the paint and James will use a floater if the 2nd Defender is near the hoop on his drive. Then James will initiate contact on help d when they are trying to recover to him to block his shot. Then if you have floor spacing because of shooters (which James has), you wont even really need a good 2nd move on the Help D because they won't be there to help because of your teams shooters.

    • @ByAnyMeansBasketball
      @ByAnyMeansBasketball  5 лет назад +3

      Generally, if the defense is packing the paint with two bigs, it’s probably not the best option to drive 😂 just basketball common sense to be honest.
