Love the state of Virginia. We have driven down the parkway, so many lovely views and little towns.When we went way back in 1994 and 2000 we never had the Internet to look for hotels you ordered hotel directories for each hotel change and pick from them .

We are enjoying your travels through Virginia on the Blue Ridge Pkwy......we lived in Lynchburg, Virginia many years ago.....right along the James River.. ..beautiful area.....Enjoy!!

the best time to drive the blue ridge parkway is in the fall when all the trees are ablaze with color - oranges, reds, yellows - but of course you have to deal with the massive crowds

We have roundabouts in Alaska. I avoid them as all the locals have no idea how to drive around them, cars coming at you from all directions, cars stopping on the circle, people driving around multiple times as they are confused......nightmare!!!!!

You seemed so calm about the car mix ups , tho would have loved to have seen the live reactions 🤣 I would have panicked in the electric car knowing I had to drive back .
The blue ridge parks look lovely and peaceful and a nice watch for me .

There were a few swear words but tbh we just ended up getting on with it. Nothing else we could do 😂
The trees with the white blossoms are Bradford pear trees. They are gorgeous but when they drop those flowers it looks like snowfall, they stick to just about everything when it is wet.😊

What an adventure especially with the cars. Im an impatient traveller so I think I would have just headed straight for the hotel and just enjoyed the scenery from the car
It was so frustrating to have to go back and swap the car but we didn't really have any choice so just had to get on with it

Omg thanks Nick and Leigh we have been going to Florida for years and just go to the row we are told. We fly next week so we will double check before we get going. We take our cooler bag on holiday so we can take frozen food to villa and if we are going on a trip we just put ice in it just in case we get stuck in traffic. Next time take a big bin bag to open and place inside the box should it split you still have your ice or purchase a cool bag and take it with you doesn’t take much space in case❤️

Marriott (Bonvoy) points are a great way to earn free stays but I’d caution against buying them to pay for a room. Using your hotel as an example, the rate displayed on the back of the hotel door is a licensing requirement to display the maximum rate the hotel can charge and is rarely, if ever, representative of regularly charged rates. The actual room rate charged averages $176 per night including tax and varies from $144 to $209.
A Bonvoy point is worth around 0.06p / 0.08c. The hotel charges 23,500 to 28,000 points per night which values them at anything from $188 to $224. If you bought the points (even assuming a 40%bonus) it would cost at least $225. More than it would cost to pay in cash.
Lastly, when you pay for a room in cash, you will earn points so you’d effectively get back anything from $14 to $18. (more if you hold any bonvoy status) which, in this case further strengthens the case against buying points.

We stayed in that same place last week. I think it was about $180 plus aaa discount.
@@garyw1594 that seems to be roughly the prevailing rate. Not so important if you have them just sitting there but generally it’s about $50 more expensive to use/buy points.
Equally, there are times when it really makes sense to use points. As a personal example, the Westin Palm Springs was 188,000 points for 5 nights, worth $1500. The room rate was $440 per night, or $2200 for the stay. Even with the points worth @$210 I’d have earned it still didn’t add up to pay cash
I just got to the part where the cooler split. As you were getting it in Walmart, I was yelling at the phone,'no, don't get one of those.' The same thing happened to me. The 1st time that I touched it, it broke into pieces. Why didn't you hear me when I was yelling, no? Haha.

If you get chance to stay at the Springhill Suites across from SeaWorld, the rooms are the same, and they give you a free fast pass into the park . It was our goto place when we used to visit Orlando
You never gave us any free passes when we stayed at yours. Maybe something to think about for next time

I can’t tell if you ever figured out how to pronounce Roanoke. It sounds like “Rowan-oak.” The views on the Blue Ridge Parkway are spectacular - it’s too bad you ended up having to be rushed because of the car problems.

your white rental is a Chevy not a Chrysler. Chrysler in the US only makes a car and a minivan in the US...

Marriot website or bonvoy app it's not particularly efficient but I just needed a top up to have enough to use my existing points X

well that's pretty much what's expected to happen to a 5 dollar styrofoam cooler from walmart
We have used them in the past and they have lasted the whole trip but tbf we have never had to move them to a different car

If you collect a hire car and there is no rev counter, chances are it's a pure electric car.
in hindsight we should have realised but we just got on with it without thinking. Presumed the electric cars would be in another bay
Oh lordy what a start to the day. But you ended up with a nice big SUV. And we did get a view of the Pentagon on the way to the airport in the Lyft. How lovely and peaceful each time you stopped in the BlueRidge Parkway.
