We just missed crossing paths. We were doing parts of the North Carolina section October 16-18. You were smart to go during the week. It was an absolute madhouse that weekend. We have done most of the highlights in previous trips so we focused on lesser known hikes and avoided the crowds...somewhat. The BRP is one of my favorite NPS sites and one we frequent several times a year. I haven’t completed the entire parkway yet, only have from Roanoke to Fancy Gap left. As for the video, great job again. Nice overview of your key stops, which were great choices by the way, and the fall colors came through vividly. Your timing was excellent for peak fall colors. It can be so hit or miss. If you do a return trip to area a few suggestions. Sharp Top and Grandfather Mountain are indeed worthwhile hikes, highly recommended. The main hike for Grandfather Mountain is through the state park but it is $20 per person. The trail (GF Trail to Calloway Peak) is fun and challenging with ladders, cables, and scrambling, nothing too precarious though. You can also get to Calloway Peak on GF Mountain, for free, via the Profile Trail on the north side of the mountain. At Linville Falls you can hike down to base of the falls via the Plunge Basin Trail, highly recommended as well. Around Linville Falls is the Linville Gorge Wilderness. There are some great hikes here which are Table Rock Mountain, Hawksbill Mountain, and the Chimneys. Some final recommendations along the BRP are Craggy Pinnacle, Craggy Gardens, Mt. Mitchell, Black Balsam Knob area, Beacon Heights, and Skinny Dip Falls. Also, there is a small plane crash site near Waterrock Knob that you can reach. If I didn’t already say it, great video and looking forward to the individual videos.

Randy AND Julie, thanks again for taking us along on a great adventure. This is a great video--super scenes, excellent soundtrack, and cool editing.
My first experience on the BRP was as a child with my mother, my sister, and both grandmothers shortly after the death of my father. These great ladies did not want us to miss seeing the world. My next experiences came while serving as a Naval Officer based in Norfolk, VA. Whenever we were in port and I did not have duty, I looked for weekend trips and the Parkway became a staple as I could reach it fairly easily. Sometimes I chose a north-south route and other times I reversed it. (Hey and speaking of the Navy I loved the capture of the fighter flyover). My latest experiences have come with my own family. We particularly enjoyed a trip from the Skyline Drive through the Parkway and on into the Smokies.
After each of our trips over the past 26 years of marriage we have selected a picture for an 8X10 to go on our wall [I think I may have mentioned that before]. One of our best shots is at Mabry Mill. My wife's brother and his wife live on the NC coast which means we can sometimes fit a trip on part of the Parkway in as we travel to or return from their place to Indiana. So as you can guess it is a place of great memories for us. Thanks for making me smile today! God bless you and yours.

I rented a mustang convertible and we started at Linville falls, and went on for about 80 miles in one day. It was magical to be driving with the top dow and the leaves were falling into the car. I just got back from a big National Parks roadtrip (the first since discovering your channel) and when I was hiking would occasionally think how cool it would be to randomly run in to you. I was at Cumberland Gap and Great Smoky Mountain from 10/23 to 10/27 and stayed at the Deep Creek campground in Bryson City so I may have actually been close to having that happen haha. It was my first time there and those Fall colors made it absolutely beautiful! We just did this on our motorcycle's. Things to remember. Virginia is still closed because of covid. You can't eat inside any restaurants. They're no gas stations on the parkway. Pack a lunch. The north Carolina section is by far the best. Stop at little Switzerland, then right up the road ten minutes is the apple orchard. The best views are in NC. hope this helps

Hey Randy great video as always. The blue ridge parkway was what got me started with travel. I planned a trip down the whole 469 miles with my parents back in 1987. My wife and I have been back several times, especially in the fall like you two just did. We love the serene autumn foliage walks. And this past week we have been enjoying the great weather we've been having in south jersey. Your videos help me get my mind off of the craziness of the world. God bless, my friend.

Hey Randy and Julie...great adventure...well narrated....Julie adds lots to the trip!!!We went when our two Boys were just starting High School and really enjoyed...From Skyline Drive in Shenendoah NP all the way to Cherokee...Summer though....the changing leaves add a lot. Also ventured off the parkway to the Biltmore Mansion in Ashville...really nice!!!Wife commented after the hussle and bussle of the city when we entered the parkway again everything just calmed down...ahhh! Stayed at the Piscah Inn along the Parkway and woke up to fog all across the valley....beautiful site...your valley pictures reminded us of that morning....Thanks for the memories...Now that we have moved from New York to Texas, we tend to head West to travel...Would like to travel East again some time...And Happy Anniversary guys.... we just had our 50th, but no party cause of Covid....dang....All the best to you two.....Hank and Pam from South Texas!!!!A little too wordy huh....again thanks for the memories!!!!

That's some trip Randy and got to say 28 degrees is way to hot for me. Some stunning Autumn (Fall) colours and the lodge, on the lake at the Peaks of Otter was superb, what a stop off place. Colour in the sky was pretty special as well, that blew my mind at 11:30, what a way to end the day. I loved the view from Rough Ridge, the colours in the trees was amazing, as were the Falls at Linville. Perfect start to day no.4 with the cloud inversion over the forest. Spoilt for choice with the food in Little Switzerland and just loved the Falls there and a good place to call it a day at the 'spooky graveyard' Epic trip but sorry Randy, I think Julie is only the second greatest wife in the world, as Mrs Metalman holds the No.1 spot 😛. Take care buddy and I hope you are all keeping safe over there, cheers Alan

Me and Rachel were just up in the smokies and I looked over to her while we were driving up and said we should take a road trip on the entire Blue Ridge Parkway lol hopefully one day. We had a great time up there though! So at waterrock knob if you hike up to the top you can cross the ridge to Browning knob and there's a plane crash and a big cross on that side of the mountain. Hopefully you guys got to see it. It was pretty cool me and a buddy did it around this time last year don't know if you ever seen that video or not. Definitely worth seeing if you're ever back in that area if you missed it on the trip. Looking forward to the individual videos. Thanks for sharing!

You certainly picked a great time of year to do the Blue Ridge. A nice mix of vistas, autumn color, old cabins, waterfalls & of course, country stores and food stops. OK Randy, here goes another one of my NP tales: along one of my two drives down the Blue Ridge, I had passed through one of the several tunnels along the route. I left the headlights on & approaching the next tunnel, I switched the lights OFF by mistake just as entering the tunnel. Suddenly I was driving in total darkness! I sort of froze at the wheel, took my foot off the gas and sprayed. For whatever reason I didn't have the presence of mind to switch the lights back on but I could make put a dim light at the other end. I almost hit a motorcycle at the far end but finally made it put the other end safely. Moral: don't drive without putting on your thinking cap! Thanks for another great NP adventure.

Hello America's Park's😊😊! What a wonderful Anniversary trip. You picked a great choice for your road trip along one of my absolute favorite drives, The Blue Ridge Parkway! I'm so happy for you both Randy and Julie. I myself have drivin sections of the Blue Ridge Parkway but not all of it like you did. However, 2 years ago we drove to Natural Bridge State Park north of Roanoke( another place you must check out!) and after looking at my map we drove along the James River to the visitors center on the Blue Ridge Parkway, and we drove all the way to Cherokee,NC and into Great Smoky Mtns National Park. We visited Mabry Mill, Blowing Rock, The swinging bridge at the top of Grandfather Mountain, Crabtree Falls, and the highest peak east of the Mississippi, MT Mitchell State Park, and we also visited the Biltmore Estate. I really enjoyed every bit of this video and looking forward to the next one. Happy Anniversary and God Bless!
